“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen” this is a famous quote by the best basketball player ever. This is a meaningful quote showing that you get what you work for and earn. If someone works hard and puts in the work needed you will be rewarded, but others who just complain and about stuff and say they are getting any progress, they will not be harvesting the full reward. As for myself, I put in the work and tried hard to become a better basketball player and it has paid off. Basketball has yet to fail me.
I have been to quite a few basketball camps throughout my career, one of best ones I have been to is called ‘Snow Valley’. One coach at ‘Snow Valley’ once told us a story when Michael Jordan asked if he could use a in the gym weight room. The gym owner and coach agreed that it would be okay but asked if he could watch him. Mr. Jordan agreed to the deal. The ‘Snow Valley’ coach has never seen someone work as hard as he watched Mr. Jordan work for forty-five minutes. The camp lasts a week and there are college coaches and players there to make you better. At this camp the coaches pushed you hard continuously and tried their best to make you the best you can be. This is the camp where I learned how hard I had to work to be the kind of player I wanted to be. And I was completely fine with working hard, honestly I would rather work hard than give a half effort at something. That is when I learned that the harder I work then, I will be
the expectation that the means to achieve goals is to work harder than others.” (McGraw−Hill,
The Quotes I have chosen that speaks out to me the most is by Ronnie Lott and Jerry Rice. “If you can believe it the mind can achieve it” ~ Ronnie Lott. “Today I will do what others won't,so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can't”~ Jerry Rice. The Reason I picked these two quotes was because both quotes inspire me to do good put in hard work and not to give up till the job is done. The way it applies to me is it helps to show me that if you want something you need to go and get it done yourself with hard work, determination,Grit, and Perseverance. The quote by Ronnie Lott meaning of it to me is anything you want to happen it can happen the right mindset you can accomplish anything you set your mind to whether it be to win a state championship
This quote is found in first part of the book in chapter two. I chose this quote because this relates to me, if I put effort and hard work I can do. Just like if Pi he did not any put effort he would have not become a good swimmer but he did same with me even if it is towards my academics or extracurricular, you still have put the same time and effort no matter what you are doing you can accomplish with right mindset. Also, I know that it is hard work but in the end you will be glad that you put effort and time. When I compete for anything I want to give 100% whatever I am doing.
Where did you learn to play basketball, play defense and offense, or be part of a team? There’s a good chance it was at camp, right? We know that camp is not just a place for kids to spend a fun summer, but an excellent setting in which kids can learn life skills that they will rely on long after the camp experience has passed.
The story this quote has with my life is inspirational and helped me though a tough time. This year for volleyball I got dropped down a level of completion from the Freshman 1 team to the Freshman 2 team. This disappointed me because I had worked so hard all summer to get on high team. I talked to my coaches and asked them what I needed to improve on and if later on in the season I could possibly move up to the higher team. They explained to me what I needed to work on and told me I could move up if I worked hard. As the season
For instance, in the poem, “Who Burns for the Perfection of Paper”, by Martin Espada writes about how hard work pays off if everyone just continue with their goal. Espada says “ Ten years later, in law school, I knew that every legal pad was glued with the string of hidden cuts.” This reveals that hard work put in good results even though you have to make sacrifices to accomplish your desire. Not only do you need the amount of effort to get your destination ,but also your confidence.
“I Can Accept Failure, Everyone Fails At Something. But I Can’t Accept Not Trying”- Michael Jordan
Hard work always pays off. These words were constantly repeated to me from a young age. My parents would tell me if I wanted to be successful, I needed to work at it and give it my full attention. Luckily, I decided to listen to them, and I can honestly say that it has paid off.
For me and probably many others, working hard pays off especially in sports. In fact, my personal philosophy has come about from playing sports. Working hard is very important while playing a sport. Training with my team and on my own has a big effect on how I perform.
Fifteen years were spent with nothing but rubber and concrete as I would practice in my front yard with a nine foot hoop. This never fully prepared me for the actual sport. I never focused on any other attributes to the sport of basketball except for shooting. Not to mention it was only with my right hand. I have wanted to play on a team since seventh grade, but injuries limited my ability to do so, including a broken leg and a sprained knee. Therefore, I had to wait until my freshman year to participate. By the time freshman year had came, I was still oblivious to everything I did not know.
Training Camp is a fictional book authored by Jon Gordon who has written many other stories that are teaching and expiring athletes of all levels. Each one of Gordon's books has a phrase that is the focus throughout the adventures of the characters. “What the best do better than everyone else” is the theme of Training Camp. As readers progress through the book, they learn about becoming the best alongside the story's main character, Martin. As Martin attempts to make a professional football team, he learns many lessons, but the four that have most impacted me are; the best know what they truly want, the lesson learned through the fishing trip, the lesson from the bad day, and the best are mentally strong.
This year I hope to get a 4.0 for every quarter because I want to beat my brother for highest GPA in the family. Also, I’ll feel smart (lol). He has gotten a 4.0 for every quarter for every year ever since seventh grade through high school, so far. I would also like to join the basketball team for either the future or in eighth grade, right now. If I get cut, I’ll keep going. “Short term pain leads to long term gain” is the quote I’ll follow. Sometimes you need to go through hell to get to paradise and for me, that hell is not making it onto the team. But the long term gain is getting onto the team after the years of hard work. I’d rather get onto the team with good skill, that get onto the team because of my wants.
Former President Thomas Jefferson contributes his luck to all the hard work he has done in this quote. “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.” I believe he is saying that the harder you work for what you want in life whether it be in school, work, or home, it will come much easier to you with that hard work that you’ve done, instead of just waiting around for it to happen in some sort of good luck streak you may have one day. Don't waste your life waiting for something to happen go out and work hard for what you want because nothing is going to be handed to you.
For many years they have been many debates on which sport is the better one. For me basketball is better because of the skill required to play it. While playing basketball you don’t always have to be the biggest guy or girl on the court. Notice I said girl, girls can’t play football but they can play basketball. Football is a very rough sport it’s a contact sport meaning you have to make contact with the ball carrier, when playing basketball you don’t have to worry about getting hit in the head during a tackle and possibly suffer a concussion. Basketball also requires you to be a more athletic person because its continuous you’re always running up and down the court. When playing basketball each possession matters and in football one turnover isn’t going to hurt you. Basketball players are assigned specific roles on both sides of the ball whether it be offense or defense. Football players are just assigned one role and that’s just for one side of the ball. Basketball overall, has all of the characteristics to designate it as America’s most athletic sport.
Entrepreneur and former professional basketball player Michael Jordan says this about not working for something: “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not
