Is Online Learning as Good as Face-to-Face Learning? Technological advancement has brought up new ways of doing things. Traditionally, the manufacturing industry had to employ hundreds of workers to ensure that work was done in the right manner. They had to lift heavy machinery or use forklifts to ensure the heavy machineries were fixed in the correct place. Technological advancement brought about the principle of robotics. Companies are happy in the modern times to use robotics in manufacturing, thus eliminating the need for many workers and professionals. Once the robot has been computerized or programmed, it is able to perform all machinery work with minimal or no supervision and still produces the same results compared to human factor that produces varying results with the same input. Likewise, education has taken advantage of technological advancement; not only are books being bought and rented, they are read online. Online learning is a modern time invention that was necessitated by the need from the many people who finance education for their own benefit, the working class, the international students and the marginalized class. With online education, one is able to learn more conveniently and undertake other responsibilities with ease (Coates et al 4-7). One does not have to hurry to attend classes since online classes can be conducted from the convenience of home or any other location. Face-to-face learning allows the instructor to get individual attention from
In today's highly developed era, the whole thing is being prepared for all intents and purposes. Letters are at this time delivered all through electronic files, phone calls can be made with film over the Internet, and increasingly more persons are currently operating distantly from home. Persons no other can picture a era when communication wasn't done in a split second.
The authors analyzed statistics of online learning to determine what they mean. They looked at the growth of online options in institutions. They also compared online learning with traditional learning to determine if it was as effective.
I chose to discuss Online Learning vs. Traditional Learning for this final project. Since 1999, the debate on the differences and similarities between traditional and online learning has been ongoing. Notably, this was the time when institutes began to use internet as a way of conveying distant education. Despite the differences that are there, it is worth noting that they are being narrowed down since technology is emerging prevalently. These facts beg the question; how do the two learning formats differ and what can one expect during transition to eLearning? Before seeking answers to this question, it is worth mentioning that I chose this topic because even though I am currently taking online classes, I wanted to research and learn more about the different benefits of online learning. Also, I am interested in researching on the major differences between online learning and traditional learning.
Online education is especially valuable to those students who juggle demanding work, familial and social schedules that necessitate access to learning in special forms. The idea of online training becomes valuable to the business world as well as trainers also face situations with adult learners who may experience similar constraints especially those of time and geographical distance. (Bartley & Golek, 2004).
When deciding to take college courses there are many choices you have to make. One of the more important choices is where you plan to take your classes. Online classes are becoming increasingly popular because they can be easier to fit into a busy schedule, but some people still argue that nothing beats a traditional classroom setting. Having the option of online classes makes continuing an education more appealing to people that have to balance many other responsibilities like family, jobs, etc.
There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online learning and Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is basically a system which involves electronic media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through electronic media. It would not be wrong to call online learning, the ‘future of education’. Online learning does have some weak points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but it’s definitely the system of the future.
When a person thinks of someone going to college they probably imagine them walking across a large campus or sitting in a lecture hall among other students. While this is the way many people do choose to attend college, there are also those who have chosen to get their degree in an online setting. Online learning gives people the opportunity to get their education in a way that is more flexible and can fit in with their daily lives. Though both are reputable forms of higher educations, there are distinct differences between learning in a tradition classroom and learning in an online setting.
Among schools with 12th-grade students during the 2010–11 school year, the average percentage of 12th-grade students who graduated with a high school diploma was 89 percent for traditional public schools, 91 percent for public charter schools, and 92 percent for private schools (Institute of Educational Sciences). Traditional on campus classes are those in which a student earns a diploma or a degree in a classroom environment taught by a professor. Students are provided with high amounts of social interaction with students and faculty to prepare them for careers outside of the classroom. From the time children are enrolled in kindergarten up to graduation, the familiarity of a classroom atmosphere sets up structural support to help them through their studies as well as provide students a sense of societal discipline. Traditional on campus classes are more beneficial to a student’s education than online courses.
Keramidas study in regards to online learning versus the tradition setting of face to face classroom is successful because the results varied for each group, it indicated that regards of a preference students must prepare and obtain the skills necessary for online learning. Both options may be successful for students one must masters the skill of time management and self-decline. Those taking a course in a traditional class setting are able to be just as successful, but students factor into account the commute to and from work, home and school. The essay “Are Undergraduate Students Ready for Online Learning? A Comparison of Online and Face-to-Face Sections of a Course” clearly provides an analysis of how online learning is successful, innovative and important in a fast tech-growing environment, especially in rural areas.
Online education is well established as a viable means of education in both the corporate and academic environments, and it has taken a remarkable pace. A survey undertaken in 2001 of online education instructors conducted by the National Education Association (NEA) indicated that 72% of online learning instructors have a positive opinion about online learning. They believe more students can be reached, learning can be customized and flexible, and interaction can increase among students (Focus, 2001).
Learning is more than just receiving information. Traditionally learning was to be in campus, where students would interact with one a another, there were no other ways for learners to get educated beside going to the classroom and listening to the instructor. Nowadays the Internet has brought different ways for people to receive information, such as getting education and degrees online. A few years ago online education was never thinkable, and yet it has become to reality and it is widely expanding with popularity. Online education is a type of educational instruction that delivers learning to individuals to their own homes, and it is getting very popular among nontraditional student and others. Individuals prefer online education
Online education is a type of distance learning. The student is taking courses without attending a school or university. Instead, online students and teachers interact over the Internet. Online classes can teach students educational responsibility. By forcing them to access the online portal to participate in reading the textbooks/lectures and doing the assignments. Technical abilities is also learned with online classes. Students who lack the tech savvy knowledge can learn how to navigate through the online environment. Being able to access the online portal at any given time of the day is one other benefit to online education. Though online education may seem beneficial, there are more negatives than
Education has undergone significant changes because of the development of information and communication technology over the 21st century (Lin & Jou, 2012:2). As a convenient and inexpensive way to gain knowledge while pursuing higher education, online learning, a form of training or teaching that takes place over the Internet, has been considered as an alternative to traditional classroom learning (Zhang et al, 2004). This essay will argue that even though online learning has benefit such as flexibility which could outweigh traditional learning, traditional classroom learning might still not be entirely replaced. This essay will discuss positive and negative aspects of online and traditional learning in terms of four criteria:
Nowadays, education is becoming one of the fundamental things in a human lifetime; most people are trying to achieve a higher education. As technology develops considerably, it has bearings on every area of our life, even in the way of education. The development of technology has a large impact on education. Before this progression of technology, the education system was only traditional. Currently, the education system has been changed. The development of technology has allowed the education system online along with traditionally. Traditional and online instructions are both great ways to learn. While both types of instructions have the same purpose of educating students having good skills about everything, but there are some significant differences between them such as flexibility, learning the course content, communication, and the cost.
Technology has changed the world and the way tasks and duties are executed. The education sector is not spared by the changing and advancing technology since students are now enjoying a fully virtual education system. The system is also called distance learning where students do not need to visit the institution physical throughout their courses. It has been a routine of late that in their pajamas, students sleep late or wake up every morning to discussion boards to respond to other students who they have never met. They are graded and assessed how they are completing their tasks by instructors they have never met before. The American government has allocated more funds to the educational system and specifically the Distance learning system so that it can be available to more people (Wuensch, Aziz, Ozan, Kishore & Tabrizi, 2006). Many people have embraced the new approach due to its cheapness comfort and flexibility, but others have refrained. As many are embracing the distance learning those
