He won rookie of the year, and was only the begging for the awards he would receive. He later receive MVP, and elected into the Hall Of Fame. He brought many kinds of fans to the game if baseball. His style of playing brought excitement back to the game. As much of the world like to watch him there were some who hated him. He received much hate mail from all kinds of people. He received letters threaten to kill him if he was to step on their hometown field with the other white players. A fellow baseball player from the opposing team slid into him putting a big gash in his knee that would take him out of the game. He was not the first black player in the major league baseball; neither was he the first black star athlete. Words cannot describe what he brought to the game of baseball and the rest of America. His success in baseball proved that blacks and white can coexist, and corporate well together. His importance to the public was more then just playing baseball. Robinson’s importance continues after his baseball career. After he retired in 1956, he became active in the NAACP and the civil rights movement. Jackie Robinson is everything a leader should be viewed as. For those of you who do not know of Jackie or his story, it’s quite an amazing one and he displays the utmost highest respect to all of his followers. Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to ever play in the Major Leagues of Baseball. He started his rookie season on April 15, 1947, and went on to thrive breaking the strong color barrier that had been around the Major Leagues since 1876. He not only was the first African America to play baseball but he displayed honor and respect to every person on the field and off the field he came in contact with. He was also really good. What I thought was amazing is that he was a rookie of the year. A rookie of the year is like an all-star but they give to people who it is there first year playing in the MLB. Two years after his rookie of the year he won the National League MVP which stands for Most Valuable Person. As a final along the path of his career he won the most valuable thing you can collect. He and his team won the World Series.

His humble upbringing, strong will, and fight for equality is unmatched by any other. He was one of the first African Americans to stand up for equal rights and broke through many barriers to allow others to fight with him. His Hall of Fame career on the baseball diamond is only a small piece to Jackie’s story of struggle and hardship to reach equality.
