A Transgender Teen changing The World In the world today one of the most common ways that people spread the word about an issue is with the use of social media. Social Media can be used to raise money, promote change or even bring awareness to an issue. Although Jazz Jennings is still at a young age, by using social media she has been able to affect social change. Jazz Jennings has used her multiple social media platforms to raise awareness of the topic of transgender youth, what they go through, and how people can get involved. Jazz Jennings was born a male on October 6, 2000 to a normal american family in Florida. In Jazz’s early years it was apparent that he was not a normal young boy. Jazz’s parents experienced many situations when Jazz would express to his parents that he wanted to wear a dress. Even at 15 months Jazz’s parents would praise Jazz as a “good boy,” he then would correct them, saying that he was in fact a good girl. When Jazz would say things referring to himself as a girl his parents would brush it off and say that Jazz was …show more content…

By going on the Foundation’s website one can choose to donate money to research, financial support for transgenders, or even sponsor a transgender

Jazz to me is one of the inherent expressions of Negro Life in America: the eternal tom-tom beating in the Negro soul—the tom-tom of revolt against weariness in a white world, a world of subway trains, and work, work, work; the tom-tom of joy and laughter, and pain swallowed in a smile. Yet the Philadelphia clubwoman… turns up her nose at jazz and all its manifestations—likewise almost anything else distinctly racial…She wants the artist to flatter her, to make the white world believe that all Negroes are as smug as near white in smug as she wants to be. But, to my mind, it is the duty of the younger Negro artist …to change through the hidden force of his art that old whispering “I want to be white,” hidden in the aspirations of his people, to “Why should I want to be white? I am Negro—and beautiful.”

At its core, The Jazz Singer is ostensibly a Jewish-American story. The central conflict is Jakie Rabinowitz’s heritage, family, and upbringing coming to a head with his chosen career and where his heart lies: performance in an American pop cultural milieu. A reading of the film suggests that although hybridity can be found between the old and the new; the traditional and the modern; they are fundamentally in conflict with each other and cannot co-exist in their established forms: one must supersede the other. Cantor Rabinowitz is introduced with an intertitle description of his religious role in the synagogue, saying that he “stubbornly held to the ancient traditions of his race”. The adult Jakie Rabinowitz, by contrast, is introduced eating ham and eggs in a café before performing two numbers in the genre forbidden to him by his father as it debases “the voice God gave him.” He has changed his name - like Al Jolson, originally born Asa Yoelson - to Jack Robin, as he announces to his parents in a letter, who show concern over his choice of partner: his father thinks she may be (which indeed she is) a shiksa, while his mother emphasises that a non-ethnic name is not indicative of heritage (or lack thereof) in the “theayter.” Quintessentially American ‘Jazz’ music and performance is diametrically opposed to “the songs of Israel.” In The Jazz Singer, Jewish culture is preserved and assimilated into American life, but Jewish ethnicity is rendered invisible in showbusiness, and
The end of junior year in high school I ran for band president against 6 other people; I ended up winning. I was the 2016 band president for Midwest city high school, I was very nervous for this new adventure. It was time for summer band, the first day of summer band was for freshman and band parents, I had to speak in front of 200 people. The next day was full band, it was time to start summer band officially. Practicing in the heat is the worst part of being in marching band, its long and hot and people always get sunburnt. Through the long hot days and playing good music and making new memories is the best part of marching band. My senior year I became a very good musician, I spent more time in the practice room and preceded my speaking

There are many different heros today. A person's definition of a hero varies but one of my definitions could be described in two words, Magic Johnson. Magic won many awards and accolades during his basketball, one of the most prominent being his first NBA championship win. Magic got drafted in 1979 by the Los Angeles Lakers and was very happy. He got to play with one of his favorite basketball players, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

In 1991, the most renowned NBA player of the time, Magic Johnson, announced retirement at the prime of his career, leaving millions of his fans in sorrow and disappointment. It was only later did his fans find out that Johnson was one of the millions of Americans suffering from Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV is a virus that interferes with the body’s ability to fight infections. If left untreated, the patient will progress into the advanced stage of the infection with symptoms that are referred to as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV/AIDS can be transmitted through shared bodily fluids, sexual contact, and from mother to fetus. There was social stigma associated with HIV. The perspective was derived from the assumption that HIV/AIDS only manifested amongst homosexuals and intravenous drug users. As such, those affected by the disease found little support from the government and political establishments. At the time, NBA player, Magic Johnson, used his public presence to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, and became a voice for those affected by the disease.

In the TV series, I Am Jazz, episode Teenage Angst and Broken Hearts, Jazz struggled with dating, harassment, gender identity, bathroom concerns, and weight. In the episode, Jazz went on her first date with Alex, a non-transgendered male, however she was unsure about her feelings and expectations towards dating. Alex and Jazz’s parents are worried about them dating because of societal pressures. Unfortunately, Jazz feels that she is not ready to date. Although her parents viewed the situation to be difficult, Jazz handled it appropriately.
Moreover, gender roles not only influence on a little boy’s identity, but also influence on Jazz’s happiness. In Jazz’s story, Jazz might be embarrassed when a little boy called him ‘princess’, not prince. Jazz parents’ parenting way allows him to choose whatever he wants which means that his parents do not make limitation based on gender, so he just choose what he likes. However, he was laughed in the public from his peers because he wears like girl. In fact, Jazz had experience that his peers do not want to play with him because of his girlish appearance.
