Kaitlin Rose Mockaitis is who people would like to think I am but they were wrong. Kaitlin never felt really like me. When people said my name I cringed and thought there has to be a nickname for me. Finally, one day one of my coaches in fifth grade called me Kate out of nowhere and it stuck. Kate suits me it defines who I am. Names identify who we are and if we are not really our names who are we? According to sheknows.com, Kaitlin and Kate means “pure.” When pure comes to mind I think about pure substances in chemistry. A pure substance cannot be broken down into any other element. I know this is a really weird way to say pure is me but it is. Oxygen and water are pure substances and have everything to do with me. They keep me alive! Without my favorite pure substances I would be dead! Oxygen and water may be two very important pure things that make me who I am, but there is one more diamonds. Diamonds are undoubtedly pure and take a long time to make. Carbon turns into diamonds over time being compressed. When you first hear of carbon it's really boring and plain but if you wait a while it turns into a shiny, pure, beautiful, diamond, just like me. When you first get to know me I am dull and quiet but once you get to know me I am loud and bright. Pure definitely defines my nickname Kate and it suits me. …show more content…
If this statement does not fit me I do not know who I am. I am no doubt a leader. I always to be the person to make decisions and execute them. I am in a leadership group called SOSA (Student Organization of Salem Athletics). In SOSA there are two leaders from every varsity sport. I am the rep for volleyball. I was put into this group because my coach thinks I have one of the best leadership skills on my team. I do everything I can for my team and help lead them to victory. Leadership definitely defines me as who I am and correctly suits the name Kate for
A person’s name is their most important characteristic and is often comprised of hidden significance and centurial “hand-me-downs”. When I was assigned to research my name, I had never thought of the importance of the name my parents had given me. As a child, I always found it annoying when my peers turned to snicker at me each time our church’s music minister asked for the congregation to stand and sing “Amazing Grace.” Each time I heard the song “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, there was always someone near to ask, “Hey, where is your lamb?” After conducting research, though, I began to find little things that made me more appreciative of my name.
Then there’s me, Rosalind or Rose or Ross or Rosy, whatever. If you haven’t noticed that all my brothers and sisters names even my parents start with a “J”? Well if you didn’t I did it makes me feel like I don’t belong. Mom tells me she wanted to name me something special so that I would be different because when
I think that if you were to ask my close friends or family, they would say that I am a natural leader and hardworking. As the captain of my lacrosse team, I am a leader on the field. In this position even though I strive to be the best I can, I find it more rewarding to watch my team succeed and improve above myself. I’m very passionate about motivating my team mates to be better and not just bossing them around. You can also find me as a leader of the Student Council at my school. Here I have been in charge of and organized countless events like the CB East’s annual Homecoming. This example also goes to show how hard working I am. I take these school events very seriously and I want every student to have a great time; I stay after school for
A leader is someone who is able to get people to work together and contribute to the overall goal. My sophomore year I was appointed as the captain of the Junior Varsity wrestling team. During my time, I lead my team during warm-ups and helped develop some of
A leader is someone who possesses the qualities to both set examples and work well with others while at the same time having enthusiasm with fair judgment that is presented in a positive manner. Being the oldest sibling in my family and oldest of seven cousins has helped me develop these traits that a good leader possesses. in the activities I participate in such as helping instruct during youth baseball and basketball camps. I am willing to grow more and lead as I grow older. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society would allow me to develop important leadership skills that would benefit me later in life. I aim to be a leader and to use my knowledge to advance the causes of the organization.
I see myself as a potential leader, trying to get everyone on task and doing on what we need to do. So being a leader will help other students and me be successful, and that we may surpass the teacher's expectations.
According to Peter G. Northouse, a leader is someone that has the ability to inspire and create change that allows others to follow them. They display confidence, determination, intelligence, integrity and sociability (2010, p.5-21). These concepts that are relevant in the workplace are also the same in sports. As a
be a leader. A leader is someone who brings several people together to accomplish a common goal. A leader possesses the motivation and determination to achieve the said goal. It is easy to recognize a leader like LeBron James, the basketball star for the Cleveland Cavaliers, or JT Barrett, the starting quarterback and team captain for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Both James and Barrett motivate and drive their teams to work hard and strive to win. However, it might be more difficult to recognize a leader in your personal life; fortunately for me that was not the case. A leader and mentor that I looked up to was my softball coach Heather. Heather was already an extremely effective leader from my vantage point through sports, but through my interview with her I learned that she is a leader in all aspects of her life.
Student: The genv website (2009) defines a leader as a person who guides others toward a common goal, showing the way by example, and creating an environment in which other team members feel actively involved in the entire process. A leader is not the boss of the team but instead he or she is the person who commits to carrying out the mission of the vision (Youth Venture, 2009). How would you describe a leader?
Not only am I a leader, but in many ways, I am also an extrovert. Being with people is something I truly enjoy and look forward to. I believe that the people close to me know the “real” me because I tend to be a very open person. I am the type of person who loves to laugh and spend time with my friends and family, but I am not afraid to work hard when the time comes.
I used to believe a leader was the person who was in the front of the room or the crowd, the one in the news, on the billboard and the one who is the most popular. A leader to me had to be the person with the most authority that was above everybody else like a teacher to a classroom or a chief is to cops. Being put into leadership positions taught me how wrong I had been. A leader can’t get nervous? I was nervous. A leader is always prepared and won’t wing anything. I have learned with my mistakes how important preparation is for social force. A leader is an authoritative role? Nope. Not at all. I don’t believe I’m any better than any of my peers or club member so I don’t see a reason to behave as though I am. Being a leader is being innovative, futuristic, individualistic, open and humble. Through these acquired taste, I have
What is a leader? A leader is a person who commands a group, organization, or country. Throughout my life I have encountered the chance to experience position of being a leader. I have experience democratic leaderships through playing on a high school football team, being apart of groups in college for class presentations, being a youth leader in my church, and also being apart of a family. I have gain important qualities of being a good leader through these experiences. Some of valuable leaderships traits that I obtained and strengthened are: how to be a team player, to be a better listener, to have more patience, to be not afraid of constructive criticism, to be outspoken, and to be a problem solver. Even though I have gained a lot, I
The first time I was told that I am a natural leader was by my 3rd grade basketball coach. She informed me of my ability to lead by example and stressed the importance of helping peers by showing them. This approach is as instinctual to me now as it was in 3rd grade. The value I held for leadership persisted throughout high school. I became captain of the volleyball team for two years and I obtained several leadership roles in clubs: I was co-president of Future Leaders of America, vice president of Key Club, tutor chairman of National Honors Society, a member of Student Council, and a mentor for incoming freshmen.
This is likely because, although I do agree with these descriptions and believe I am a leader, I enjoy putting forth the most effort as possible towards school and leadership. When I was the Vice president of student council in 6th grade I took great pride in my work and responsibility. I will take similar pride when I am a Junior Advisor. Students around our school (including myself) create a great environment for our school. We each add something different to the equation
I love the meaning behind a person’s name and I love uncommon names because I feel they resonate more than names you hear more frequently. I named my son Chance because it was not a name commonly used and meant, “Having good fortune”. I still had the baby name book from when I was pregnant with my son and decided to finger through it looking for ideas. I came across the page where I had listed possible girl names that had caught my attention and at the top of the list was the name Halo. That was it! I searched the pages looking for the meaning behind the name and found it means, “Having a blessed aura.” She had been my halo from the beginning, before I even knew what I had or how lucky I was, the name was so fitting! I played around with many middle names trying to fit in which one sounded best after Halo and before Rae, which was to be her second middle name. Ultimately it was my youngest sister that suggested I try using Scarlett and Halo Scarlett Rae became the name I chose for
