Sept. 11, 2017 Dear new members of Beta Mu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma: As an important part of the Kappa Kappa Gamma community, we are reaching out to provide you with information about the temporary suspension of chapter operations of Beta Mu Chapter at the University of Colorado Boulder. We recently learned of several matters of concern surrounding Membership Recruitment. Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity has acted swiftly to begin an investigation into these allegations. While this investigation is taking place, chapters operations are suspended and there will be no chapters events, activities or social events. We are deeply sorry that your Kappa experience is starting under these circumstances. We will continue to investigate this
The organization that has been the most impactful since I started college has been Sigma Kappa sorority. Sigma Kappa was the first organization I joined when I got to K-State and in many ways I think it is the reason that I became even more involved throughout the last two years. Being a member of Sigma Kappa first exposed me to other opportunities on campus. One instance in particular is there is a member that is very involved in the Student Governing Association. She often would stand up during chapter dinner and describe different ways women in our sorority could get involved. Her passion for the SGA inspired me to make my own run for a senate seat. Another activity Sigma Kappa exposed me to was the Homecoming Committee, after participating
Thank you for your support of Kappa Kappa Gamma. On behalf of Fraternity Council, I am writing to share an update regarding Zeta Eta Chapter at the University of California, Irvine.
Kappa Kappa Gamma is looking to grow and we need your input! One of our focus areas is expanding our legacy to new college campuses. Currently, we’re exploring an opportunity to open a new collegiate chapter at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Here are some fast facts about the university:
Nolan Burch, a young man local to the area, died last year of alcohol poisoning. He was pledging the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at West Virginia University, and was forced to consume a bottle of alcohol as part of his pledge process. There are over nine million Greek members nationally and more than half college students are involved in some form of campus hazing (Daley). Hazing is an important part of a pledge process that is based on tradition. Every member of the fraternity or sorority has gone through the exact same pledge process and it is a necessary rite of passage that creates bonds within a group. It is also meant to discipline the new members and maintain a hierarchy. Since hazing is only on the news when someone gets hurt or dies,
In December, we sent a notification to all alumnae of Eta Theta Chapter to express our profound disappointment in this decision and to inform them that Eta Theta Chapter would not participate in Formal Recruitment this semester.
The student Kimon McNeil seemed to just simply read the slide. He did not try and expand on the information. The other two female students did well in this area. They proposed solutions for these problems we feel are very well constructed. The one proposed solution that we feel stood out was Fraternities because it would build that unity between the black community as a whole and give young African American males a positive role model. There major findings in the article from 1992 on creating a single gender and single raced school for black boys was also interesting to us. This idea would help young African American males who may be searching for themselves, to not turn to a life of crime or drop out of school.
Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated is the prime example of what every woman should strive for. Their core values as an organization to service the community and promote positive developments to better enhance those around them, is profoundly admirable. It would be an honor to be a member of such an outstanding organization. Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated always stood out to me, everything that they stand for is what every woman should stand for. The importance of public services and helping others, which they hold as a key element of their organization, is such a vital quality to have as an organization that seeks the betterment of the world around them. On a personal level, I know what its like to need help, and wanting to get help from those
Joining fraternities and sororities has been a long tradition among many college and university students within the United States. As the number of students entering colleges and universities grow, the influence and pressure to join fraternities and sororities grow as well. According to a research project conducted by Dr. Gary D. Malaney, associate professor of education and director of student affairs at the University of Massachusetts, “58.6% [of 413 students surveyed] reported having at least a few friends who belong to the Greek Area” (Malaney 2). However, the Kappa Sigma fraternity at the University of Miami in February 2004 was found at fault for the death of Chad Meredith for
A graduate of Weatherford High School, Brian Durant went on to study business management at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, where he served as a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. From 1999 to 2009, he oversaw daily operations as the general manager of Durant Toyota. Brian Durant worked closely with managers in the sales, service, and parts departments to maintain high levels of quality and increase customer satisfaction.
The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation is committed to funding the preservation of Kappa’s heritage, not just to showcase some old jewelry or a piece of furniture, but to teach from our history. Maybe you are interested in chapter-specific information on Kappapedia, the birth of the Fraternity at The Stewart House Museum or the archives at Kappa Headquarters. There is so much to reflect on and learn.

I am incredibly excited to apply for a Educational or Strategic Growth consultant position with Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. I am currently a Masters of Public Administration candidate at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. I am working towards beginning a career in student affairs, specifically in Fraternity and Sorority life. I believe that my leadership positions within the Illinois Eta chapter, volunteer experience, and para - professional experience in a university setting make me a viable candidate for either of these roles.
I have selected my interviewees based on their affiliation with Greek Life and their availability to be interviewed. I will be talking to two fraternity men, two sorority women, and two people that aren’t associated with Greek Life in order to gather a variety of information. I chose to interview two of each type of person so that I would be able to get more than one type of perspective for each group. Of the two fraternity members I interviewed, one was a full brother in one of the active chapters on my campus. The other was one of my own brothers and since we are in a colony, we aren’t brothers but we also aren’t pledges, which gives us a unique outlook on Greek Life. The two sorority members that I interviewed were also very different. The first woman I interviewed is a sister in one of the active chapters on campus. The other had just recently dropped her letters due to time
Joining Alpha Phi Omega, a student run organization that runs various service events, provided me with a chance to contribute to the community. Two events that really stood out were, “free tree day” and volunteering at soup kitchens. The organization participated in the free trees event because the community was building a solar panel over about 200 acres of land; therefore, instead of cutting down the trees, they were dug out by the roots. We offered the trees to the community in order to be replanted. Since some of the trees were enormous, we had to work as a team by lifting and moving them onto the trucks. Without teamwork, any dental practice will not thrive; being able to work well with others and communicate effectively is an important
On behalf of the Pi-Tau chapter, we are excited to be back at school and ready to work on sending our chapter in the right direction this semester! With that being said, I do have some questions for you. It's syllabus week and fraternities are reaching our to us to have socials. Before I gave them a definite answer I wanted to speak with you via phone to see if we can attend them. One would be with the Omega Phi Kappa fraternity and the other with the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. They would be BYOB. Delta Zeta will have 10 sober monitors as well as each fraternity. They will drive and coordinate uber rides for the members. We will have people at the door checking the guest list to ensure it is strictly the sorority and fraternity members and
