Martin Luther King Jr Accomplishments

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. put his life on the line for more rights for African Americans. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was no ordinary man, he strongly affected people's lives when he made his famous speech and when he ended bus segregation. However, that is one of his many achievements. Martin Luther King Jr. had a great impact on how the world is shaped today because he ended bus segregation, made his famous speech so people started questioning the South’s segregation and had a holiday named after him.

King was an inspiration to all! I agree with Mr. King’s philosophy of civil disobedience and nonviolence. I agree with this because then you are just hating the enemy. I don’t think that you should fight hate with hate. If we fight like this then the result will just be even more hate. I think that Mr. King thought that we should fight peace with hate so that in the end peaceful will overpower the hate. MLK once said , “ I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” Mr.King was also very brave to stand up for what he believed in and continuing to do this even after the threats he was getting. Know matter how bad he was being treated by white people he still picked up his head. Another quote that relates to what I am saying was also by MLK. “ Let no man pull you low enough to hate him.” - Martin Luther

Martin Luther King Jr. is a well known and an inspiring man to all cultures of the world. King was and still is one of the most influential heroes. King 's views and believes helped African Americans through the 50 's and 60 's to the rights and liberties that was their right. King faced many obstacles on his journey, things like jail and even assassination attempts. Despite these obstacles, he became a successful leader during the Civil Rights Movement and after his death, by guiding African Americans in a non-violent and positive direction for the fight to secure rights and equality for blacks.

In 1968 Martin Luther King Jr dies. In 1983 Ronald Reagan signed a democracy that on every third monday of January would be the holiday of Martin Luther King Jr. He has a memorial and his statue was built on the National Wall. It is a 30 foot tall

One reason i think martin luther king had an impact on the world is because of his speech. He is the reason why blacks and whites do things together now days. Hes why we don't treat black people like slaves. He had the dream of being accepted for who he is. He was tired of people being mean to him. He didn't like that he had to do different things because of the color he was. He didn't want his kids to grow up being treated unfairly because they are black. It wasn't there fault they were the color they are.

King, Jr. was a strong believer in the fact that every race should be treated equally to one another. As Edward Berry stated in his own Rhetorical Analysis, “Doing Time: King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail””, King dreamed of a time where whites and blacks could be equal (111). Some of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s largest achievements through this movement where the March on Washington, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and obviously the Birmingham Campaign. He gave his all into this movement and on April 4, 1969, at the young age of 39, was assassinated because of his belief in racial equality and gave his life for the Civil Rights Campaign. Like Martin Luther King said in his piece, “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, “I am compelled to carry the gospel of freedom far beyond my own hometown (1). And that he did. He has his own day, Martin Luther King Day. Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on January 15 marking the anniversary of the influential civil rights leader. On this day we remember what MLK sacrificed for America and remembering his achievements. Martin Luther King had won a Nobel Peace Prize of 1964 for what he did for the African Americans and provided leadership to the civil rights movement. He was also awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom and in 1977 Congressional Gold Medal (www.nobelprize.org). His intention were to change America but his speeches and works were being practised throughout countries like South Africa. King wrote a very famous speech, “I have A Dream.” In this speech he talked about how all men are born equal, how this nation will once rise again, and all Negro slaves shall be free. Dr. Martin Luther King did many great things to help give people freedom and better their lives. He risked his life for the rights of others and in the end he helped make one of the biggest changes in American history. In the civil rights era Martin Luther King brought together the country to fight for one cause.

As most people have already known that Dr. Martin Luther King was a great leader during the Civil Rights Movement. He brought many courage to the African American people to gain more Equal Rights and to fight in a non-violence way. During the Civil Rights Movement people began to protest for their equality, including himself, But it has taken many years just so African Americans can get the equal rights they have deserved. Many people still this day still look up after him, and they are encouraged by his words and his victory on Civil Rights.

In addition, from equality, he did much more. The most difficult part of ‎his goal was doing it peacefully. He and his followers took a lot of punishment; not only mental ‎and emotional torture, but also physical assaults as well. For example, “On December 1, 1955, A ‎lady names Rose Parks refused to give up on her seat on the bus to a white man”(Wikipedia). ‎Then Parks got arrested for what she did. King called for a boycott of the buses. This boycott ‎lasted longer than a year and the bus companies were order to end segregations on their buses. ‎King told the people to fight over their rights peacefully without any harm to others. After Rose ‎parks not giving on her seat on the bus, rules have changed for the black people. MLK Jr. became ‎the president of his boycott. White people started bothering King and wanted to force him to ‎give up his fight for equal rights for the black people. At the same time king wasn’t afraid. He ‎continued working in the peace for the African American. During 1963 King Jr. organized, a ‎protest in Washington D.C. hundreds of thousand of American in different race took part. At the ‎Lincoln memorial King held his most famous speech:”I Have Dream!” According to this king ‎says, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live a nation where they will not be ‎judge by the color of their skin but the content of their character.”After his speech in November ‎‎1963, the next American government passed a law that gave black people same rights like the ‎white people. The new law gave the black people the same opportunities to be educated, work, ‎go to the same school, etc; along they can do what white people can do. It also gave them the ‎right to vote, the right to speak, the rights to share their opinion and the right to be mix with ‎others. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in a very religious family, with his father being a pastor, and all. He was galvanized by his father and became a Baptist minister and social minister after he attended Boston University at the age of 15. He, later, married Coretta Scott on June 18, 1953, a woman who mothered his four children, Yolanda King (1955), Martin Luther King III(1957), Dexter Scott King (1961) , and Bernice King (1963). He was greatly motivated by many great people such as Gandhi, Lincoln, and many other well-known males. King played a tremendous role in the civil rights movement. He was a great leader who inspired many people, during and after his lifetime. A huge role model for many people to this very day, and generations to come. He was an inspiration and role model because he used nonviolence to fight for equal rights, he never stopped fighting for what he believed in, and because he was a voice that convinced people that “all men are created equal.”

In a dark world, a time full of hate, hurt, and segregation, a man stood out against those injustices, Martin Luther King Jr.. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very strong activist in the civil rights movement. King was a pioneer of the “no violence” and “no harm” era of protesting. He became a leader for African Americans and whites who opposed the idea of segregation. These people wanted change, they stood together as brothers and as Americans, all led by the great qualities of Martin Luther King Jr.. On the road to civil rights, King had many quotes that had given people hope, trust, and faith and many are still used today.

When Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of his dream in ending racial segregation he knew how to incite action from his listeners. King challenged tens of thousands of Americans of all races in his age and era to move toward change. King emotionally moved individuals in this nation so much that they accepted his challenge of desegregation back then and continue to do so today. In fact, a staff writer at ushistory.org (2008) concluded that because of his efforts and the motivation he drove within his followers to fight for racial equality, “The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964… as well as The Voting Rights Act in 1965” (para.5). There were many tactics King used in order to motivate his followers in the fight for racial equality.

For these valuable reasons Martin Luther King Jr. started and stood strong on his beliefs on equal rights. King created a huge following, that included standing up for African-Americans freedom and the right to vote. Although Martin Luther King Jr.’s Civil Rights Movement, were thought to helped only African-Americans; it also helped many other ethnics groups from all around the world that come here to the United States. Including; white Americans that were already in this country. With the help of King’s goals and accomplishments, this actually benefited not only that time period, but the future as well. By giving a voice to all ethnic races.

He is considered an iconic symbol of social justice and one of the greatest American Civil Rights leaders of the 1960s. All of the things that he is known for all started with his childhood. At a young age he was taught that god created all persons of equal worth and that everyone should be treated with dignity and with respect. He saw injustice and segregation at a young age, later in life Martin Luther King Jr. sought for the equality and human rights for all Americans.
