My family is Mexican and soccer is a national passion. Even though we came to the US when I was 2, my dad, brother, cousins, and uncles taught me how to play as soon as I could walk. I love the feeling of wind blowing thought my hair, the way my leg feels when I kick the ball, and also how happy I get when I score a goal. I remember playing in a league when I was 6 years old, acknowledging the fact that I in a team with kids that love playing soccer as much as I did. I also remember playing street soccer with my brother and cousins behind my uncle’s restaurant, always having to get the ball from under the cars because I was the smallest one of them all. One time we even played in the now, my family came over for dinner and we didn’t know
Ever since I could remember, soccer had been in my life. If there was a soccer team that needed a coach, my father was always the first to volunteer. There were almost too many strenuous weekends spent hours away from home for soccer tournaments to count. My entire family, consisting of my parents, my siblings, my dog, and myself, packed in a mini-van heading to a city that I had never heard of for soccer games. But when I entered high school, all that would soon go away. I kept playing the same sport that I always had, although now I had to wake up at five in the morning for six hours of high school soccer practice in the smoldering summer heat in order to make the high school team. High School sports were more competitive than anything I had done before. I put in as much effort as I could to make the Varsity High School team, staying out past dinner to practice even longer. I was utterly divulged in soccer and trying to be the best I could be. Soon, I would regret placing a game over spending time with my family.
Growing up in a house with all boys in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, I was taught to be tough and injuries were very common but easily shaken off. When it came to sports, I would put all my time and effort into one thing: soccer. Soccer was always a true passion of mine; as a matter of fact, it was more of a lifestyle than just a sport. I would spend weekends traveling around my local area playing the game I loved with people I enjoyed being with. My teammates became like my second family after countless seasons and we did almost everything together off the soccer field. The idea of putting on my jersey and lacing up my cleats was a moment I would not trade for the world and something I would never take for granted.
Soccer has always been a love of mine. Without soccer I would be a much different person; it has shaped my identity. I have had many injuries that have restricted the amount of time I was allowed to play soccer, and while I was sitting there on the
Soccer always been a great part of my life. I play it since, I was three years old. My greatest moment was the final game of the district tournament. It was the first time for me and my teammates to make it that far. I had to act like I got it all under control since I was the captain of the team but I was shaking until the game started. The game went by fast, it was the minute 89 and it was a draw one to ne after my friend’s header goal from the corner kick. We had two minutes before we go to extra time and everyone in the field already so exhausted. The other team had the ball, and I was at the center back, I ran and cut the ball from the other team, I began running as fast as I can. I was not sure either to pass it or keep
Throughout my life, soccer has been a huge part of what makes me, me, and what makes me happy. It has taught me to be strong, tough,
Although I never saw myself being one of those girls that are head over heels for a sport, I fell in love with soccer my sophomore year. Since I started soccer so late into my school career it gave me a reason to try my hardest at practices and during games. I wanted to become as good as the girls that have played their whole life. Soccer soon became a big part of my high school career, and because of this I spent hours after school either out on the field or running the
Everyone has that certain thing that makes them who they are. That certain thing for me is soccer. It’s my hobby, my biggest interest, and my passion. Soccer isn’t just a sport for me, it’s my life. It has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have played the intriguing game of soccer since I was four years old, and I have loved it ever since.
As a child, I grew up playing softball and that 's it. My mom played softball, my cousins played softball. It’s just all I knew. When I reached the seventh grade at Gardner Dickinson (my elementary and middle school), my friends all played soccer and I reluctantly joined as well. Each year I had my ups and downs with soccer, but it grew to be a part of who I am and has taught me a lot of things. For example, to try new things, to work hard, to never give up, and to step up and be a leader.
I got very intrigue by the assumptions that were made about mexicans in chapter 2. “Look at how short they are.” (Christina Henriquez) It is shocking how there are so many tall mexicans but still people assumed they are all short, or look indians. I found it even more surprising how Latinos make these assumptions as well. “ I was a Latino and male, and not a cripple, therefore I should play Soccer. Soccer was for Latinos, Basketball for blacks and the whites could keep their tennis.” ( Christina Henriquez) I do not understand how a sport is for an specific race. How can a skin color could affect the way you play or learn a sport. Why do latinos play soccer and blacks play Basketball? Why do we think like this? It intrigues me a lot how these
Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else. The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men’s and women’s teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years).
Everyone has that one special thing. The thing that is comfortable and familiar. The thing that makes every problem, worry, and doubt go away. My thing is soccer. I cannot recall a time in my life where I didn’t have a ball at my feet. Soccer has been a major part of my life ever since I was born. From attending my first soccer game at the young age of one month, playing my first soccer game when I was two years old, and still playing to this day, it is safe to say that soccer has taken over my life.
The green, leafy smell of the grass beneath my feet. The deafening cheers of the spectators around us. It was my very first season playing travel soccer. I played in years prior but it was just a recreational league, and I was playing with and against all of my friends so there was no true competition.
Soccer had played its official match against Sweden which the U.S. won in August 20, 1916, but soccer began to decline when the Great Depression occurred and it took about 30 years to get popular again. During one of the World Cups, 2014, Tuesday, soccer brought people together from different race, different people, trying to support American teams. It showed power to unite its country of different races and cultures. They were cheering and enjoying and watching soccer that connects them to their homes. They all come together to cheer for a country, America. The North American Soccer League, NASL, founded in 1968, brought soccer back in the spotlight that had 17 teams that comprised with foreign players that were attracted to the US which had made the NASL popular and games against foreign teams had helped
As a child, I grew up playing travel soccer, and it was what my life revolved around. My weekdays were filled with practices, my weekends filled with tournaments. Soccer was all I knew and all I wanted to do. I had dreams of making my high school varsity team, and even one day playing when I got to college. This all changed during one weekend tournament. My team and I were in the first half of the first game that weekend when I was injured and carried off the field. From that point, I never stepped foot into a soccer game again.
Soccer is one of the most important sport in Europe and America. About 270 million people play soccer around the world. Soccer was first played and created in England in December 1863.
