My Leadership Philosophy

Being a leader is being a role model and striving to make a positive impact on those around you. In order to be a successful leader, you have to put yourself second and your peers first. For example, my younger sister and I both play softball. I have played on several travel teams during the summer and this year, she tried out for her first competitive travel team. I was asked to aid her by helping her with the mechanics of the game. Growing up, I realize the important leadership roles that should be recognized in every day life. Leadership is an important part of one's self character because when someone sees you as a leader they tend to grow more onto you so they can be like you. Part of this statement fits a powerful quote i've always lived by while being around others. "It is the men behind who make the man ahead," this quote by Merle Crowell, fits the man I've molded into, simply because I have realized in numerous ways on how my actions can impact other people's actions. My parents always raised me to believe that what you put in is what you get out. So of course, I believe that if I make the decisions to be a follower of the wrong path, then wrong will follow me as well. Instead, I choose to take the golden path and promote a better outcome for my future and hopefully other's also. Sticking to the routine of a leader builds you into an even better leader. Being a better leader, makes me a better man each day that I choose this route as the leader of my path.

When I think of a leader I look back on how many people in my life that have helped me to get where I am today. My parents are authority figures in the sense that they are the ones that showed me right from wrong. There are the administrators that helped me along my way with school and completing all of the work that I needed to in order to make my way in this long road called life. Finally there are the instructors that have shown me the ways on how to become a leader myself. When I think of the word leader I do not think of myself right away, but now that I have taken on different roles in my life I have realized that maybe just maybe that I could become my own leader.

Among society, there is a common longing for success. Success, however it is defined, is only achieved through leadership in some form. Whether a person becomes a public leader in his church, in his country, or simply a leader in his own life, it takes a leader to put in the effort to achieve one's hopes and dreams of success. Leadership allows a person to acquire the means necessary to meet a personal goal and ultimately reach this idea of success. Utilizing leadership skills is how I will achieve my goal of becoming a surgeon.

My potential as a leader comes from my drive, my belief in myself, and my ability to inspire others to believe in themselves. From my experience as a competitive figure skater and a performer in a professional choir, I know how important it is to be tenacious and have faith in one's own abilities. I have lost track of the number of times I have heard people call themselves stupid because they did poorly on a test and or have given up on a goal because they lose faith in themselves. I find this heartbreaking and I strive to fix it. I have potential as a leader because I can help people build faith in their abilities and teach them new things, leading them to be successful. My own belief in myself and my tenacity allow me to achieve my goals

There have been many things in my life that have molded me into the leader I am today. Various people and groups along the way have taught me so much about what it means to be a leader. There were so many things that impacted my life and leadership.

There are two types of people in the work field. One is the leader and one is the follower. The people in the management do not necessary they are meant to be the leader. There are many reasons that a person became a leader, it is more important how to be a successful leader. A successful leader is able to lead the team, inspire the team and help the team to succeed and grow. There are people are born natural to be a leader, and there are some people because a successful leader by experiences or inspiration from other successful leader.

A good leader leads from the middle and not the front. Leadership is working with people in order to complete a task, instead of telling others what to do. Delegating and helping others realize their potential and work to their strengths is what leadership is all about. Leadership is the ability to listen to others and show them the right path. I strive to be a leader in all I do. As a pharmacist, I will be the leader in the community and be able to help patients with their medical needs. While I have had times in my academic classes that I am able to step up and be the leader, I often use my leadership skills most in extracurricular activities. I have served as President of my cooperative house, where I learned so much from the constant leadership.

I feel like my persona was sculptured and formed by my family. Everything they have taught me, I have kept with me for any obstacle that may come my way. My mom and my sister are the ones that are there for me the most and have taught me everything from respect to responsibility. I have learned to be a leader ever since I was young. An important person in my life that really enforced my leadership skills is my sister. Taking care of my older sister who has down syndrome did not only portray me as a leader, but I acquired a very useful trait that is patience.

Who am I as a leader? What comes to mind when you hear the word leader? Some would think of our Commander in Chief, others may think of their boss or their teachers. All of these are just titles. I believe that leadership is something that can’t be narrowed down into a title or a position of employment. The choices we make and the obstacles we conquer is what I believe to define us as a leader. With the personal experiences I have had to bear as a U.S. Marine Infantryman and civilian worker, my leadership abilities have proven dedication to my team, knowledge and determination in specific trade, and the ability to motivate those around me.

Throughout my life, God has been working in my life to prepare me for a life of godly leadership. He started off giving me small responsibilities which quickly grew to be leadership opportunities. I believe that everything I do ought to be my best for God. As a Christian, I have strived to work harder in school and in ministry than my peers so that God would be glorified through my work. As a high school student, I was blessed with the opportunity to lead two robotics teams into competition on the college level. He has given opportunities to lead on the mission field and in the states. Since the Time of my salvation, God has been preparing me as a leader through my ministry experiences and academic pursuits.

Being a leader means having the ability to compromise, the ability to listen well and to empathize. I have demonstrated leadership at work with my coworkers who are interns and are new to the job. I always show them what to do and how to do it right. I also encourage them that with time and practice they will get used to the job. At school, I always try to correct my classmates whenever I see them do something wrong. I show them how to do it right. It just never feels right to me seeing someone do something wrong and not correcting them or showing them the right thing. Some of my classes like art I have with students who are in a lower grade than me, students who are just learning to draw and paint. Most times I show them some drawing and painting techniques that would them. We also work in groups most times at school and I’ve learnt never to criticize anyones ideas. I respect people’s ideas and people themselves. The first and most important area of leadership is to show others respect and gain respect and I believe it is important to show respect whether the person deserves it or not.

Leaders are very important and and every action they make possibly affect even one person to be more inspired and help them after watching a leader speak. I remember from experience, this one time everyone had to read their speech they wrote in front of the whole class and this was my first time doing it. I was worried that I wouldn't be good enough at talking in front of everyone, but then one of my fellow students went first and showed me I wouldn't have to be worried. That person inspired me and was a good example of a leader.

Leaders are not born they are made. The basics of leadership can be learned by anyone, but most people choose not to take up the mantle. When a leader is formed they are crafted with honor, courage, and commitment.

Leadership is a capability that each of us has within us. There are three different styles of leadership called autocratic, laisse-faire and democratic which is used by different people in many different environments and careers daily. It is formed as we take on the opportunities and challenges of everyday life, and it is measured by our successes and failures. More than anything else, leadership is about character and authenticity. It is about taking ownership for changing something and making it better than you found it. And when that change operates with responsibility, it earns respect. Leadership is exercised every day in schools, homes, and other institutions. It is my belief and experience that the leadership lessons we learn in our everyday lives can and should be carried with us into our work environments, and that they can help us become better leaders of our people. We all use one of these leadership roles in everyday life from work to family to our home lives.
