If you want others to give you respect, you must first learn how to give respect yourself. There is a lot of ways to respect a person or people, there are a lot of definitions to define respect: “To feel or show definite regard for; esteem. To avoid violation of or interference with: respect the speed limit. To relate or refer to; concern”. relation or reference, esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability, deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges; proper acceptance or courtesy; acknowledgment, the condition of being esteemed or honored, a formal expression or gesture of greeting, esteem, or friendship, favor or partiality. Another one is to respect their rules, feelings, their personal space or bubble. There are many other forms of respect. Respect is created in many ways. It is created when people treat others as they want to be treated. So the growth of something, such as respect, often nourishes itself from its own process and dynamics. Being the first to accord respect, and with time, it will develop amongst all the conflicting parties. Avoid insulting people or how they feel about certain situations. As an eight year old kid in the 80’s I remember watching the movie Popeye by Robin Williams. “I yam what I yam, and that’s all that I yam.” I sang this tune in my head and out loud over and over again. I even added lyrics to suit me., “I’ll be want I want to be, I am what I yam.” It may be my first attempt at being true to myself, a self-identification, a personal statement and a compass of sorts

There have many people in my life who have influenced my life. But I must say the most significant influential person in my life is my mother, Dorsey Steamer, because she always has been pushing me to do better inside and outside of school, and has also taught me to be strong and independent. I always respect my mom for her independence and for pushing me to reach my limit.

Well, there always that someone or person who has or had influenced you or even changed your life during you past years in your life. My influence is my one and only father. My father has influenced me in so many ways that has actually changed my life. The main three ways were for me to keep on task, keep safe and stay out of drugs and, and mostly, to believe in yourself.

Respect is an important value to be taught when growing up. Through the years I have learned that in order to learn anything you must have respect for others. I have learned many valuable lessons from listening to my grandmother. She has told me many of her experiences, which has made me a better person. Having respect for other people has allowed me to be more open-minded and see qualities in people that most would not. I have always listened to what my friends and family has to say. That doesn’t always mean that I agree with them, but it is their opinion, so I respect it. In return I receive respect from them. As people begin to respect me more their trust in me also grows.

I often wondered if my mother would have chosen to immigrate to the United States of America, after repatriating to Holland, to begin a new life from absolutely nothing but the clothes on our backs for the second time, if my parents had stayed together. Was it their divorce that inspired Mom to lead us on our path to prosperity? Eventually I understood that my Mom’s ultimate motivation was her vision of a brighter future for her family, regardless of her marital status. In Holland, Mom could not bare to watch her mother be the sole breadwinner and living off a Dutch government's subsidized income was equally unacceptable. All my life I’ve seen my mom work hard, struggling to pay bills and raise three sons alone. Day in and day out she’ll work and when she returns home, she tells me not to end up like her. In recent years she’s developed some health issues from working so much and continues to work because there’s really no other option. A number of times she’s told me that she regrets never finishing school and tells me it’s something I have to do. Even without her telling me to I knew just from looking at her that it was something I had to do to prevent her hard work from going to waste.

Moving to her appearance, I could say that the way she acts says a lot about her personality. She is the kind of person that is interesting to listen. When I was younger I never really had a mother because my parents had got a divorce when I was 5 and I’ve never seen her ever since then. Because of this my Dad had to provide for my sister and I, with him working forty hours a week and always having to take my sister and I to a babysitter. My dad is the hardest working person I have ever met. With my dad working and me and my sister at a babysitter my dad never really had time with us and he was very lonely in having someone else in his life. He started going on dating sites and would meet people he was interested in talking to more. This one day my dad had the day off and set up a date with this one woman named Kristi. She had two kids of her own, one named Jessika and one named Jadyn.

A mother is someone who can take the place of all others but no one can take the place of her. There are many different definitions you could use to describe your mother. My mother, Pam Krull, fits every one of those. Today I decided to pick the three that I thought was most important to me.
