Fencing is , in technical terms , the sport of fighting with rapiers (swords) in order to score points against an opponent, to me, it’s simply the art of sword fighting. My most memorable moment happened to me, during my junior year in high school ( when I was still fencing in my free time ). I and some of my fencing class entered a tournament called The Golden Gate International which took place in the gym of a State University. I still remember when my dad and I finally got to the gym, I was ecstatic, from the outside the gym looked more like a convention center. The tournament took place on the indoor basketball court ( which got divided into several sections for multiple matches ) was massive, almost twice the size of my high school gym. There were rows of seats on both side of the gym, and even stairs and a elevator that led to a balcony like, second floor where you could get a bird’s eye view of the whole gym.
I had six matches that day, and surprising the match where I lost is the not the most memorable. My most memorable match took place around 3 hours into the tournament, mainly because of the experience with the referee. The first thing I noticed was that the referee looked like he was completely pulled from the crowd, almost like someone’s father. Still, he seems rather confident and has the tough look of an ex-military guy, so I'm appropriately intimidated. The First touch was a parry-riposte or a stalemate with two hits on both sides leaving the round up to
Do you have that special person in your life that no matter what situation you are going through they manage to put a smile on your face? There are some people in life that makes you laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger, and live a little better. For me, this special person happens to be my best friend Alexia Reese. Some of my best moments in life involves her. She is so full of laughter and joy. Her humor style is definitely one of a kind, very weird and crazy.
One of the most memorable moments of my life was liking a guy named Bronson. It went from being a little storm to a hurricane.
It was the Bend City Championships (wrestling). My palms were sweaty, my face tomato red, and my heart was pounding, due to the 7 testosterone filled, middle school boys, in my bracket. Luckily, I had my best wrestling
It was on a saturday morning at eleven o’clock. We had the biggest game of our lives! It was the Regional Championship match.
Fencing is an outlet for personal expression. For many, it is a way of life. However, this this way of life is dying out. There is much debate about classical fencing vs. Olympic fencing. Olympic fencing uses much of the same equipment but is very different from classical fencing. Making many believe that classical fencing is the way of the past.
It was my senior volleyball season and the first day of the SEMO Classic Volleyball Tournament, a tournament we had prepared for since the end of my junior year. Everyone looked forward to this tournament, because it was good competition, we had a great chance of winning, and we had a big fan base to
It was already past 7 by then but there was nothing we could do about it. We walked through the yard, had our bags checked, walked up the stairs and stepped inside. Hurriedly, we got our tickets checked and went to find our seats. A staff member had stopped us and told us to wait and move once someone won a point. We all stayed there watching, awestruck as the two tennis players hit the ball back and forth. I finally understood why people loved the sport so much. The suspense put everyone on the edge of their seats. Roger scored a point and we moved to our seats. It was all the way at the back but we could still see everything. The arena was almost packed. The match resumed and I had become bored at times. I was able to get a few pictures but it all looked like they were doing ballet instead of tennis. The polite lady who sat next to me made small talk. She had asked if I liked the tennis and Roger. I shook my head but told her that my mom does.
In the beginning, fencing was just something to help me exercise and stay fit, a sport to keep me away from electronics. However, it later became a huge part of my life.
Piano performance and fencing are two activities that seem disconnected to each other : the major difference is piano playing is a musical activity and fencing is a game of Olympic. Even though they seem disconnected, they share the same spirit of great effort. On the performing stage, piano players amaze their audience with their incredible skills; however, what we didn’t focus on are the efforts that they’ve made. Piano players would spend hours on considering the performance to become more fluent, and they would consume time to practice and prepare for the performance, what the action represents is the player's spirit of the greatest effort. On the other hand, fencing also requires time-consuming practices. In an Olympic game, when a fencer
Living on this Earth as long as you have, can you say that there have been memorable moments or people? Did it change your life or perspective? If you hadn't met that person would your life be different? The lovely part of life is that nobody has traveled the path in life that anyone has paved for themselves. Therefore, nobody has seen what another has seen and even felt the same in those moments. Like for example, one person could have witnessed child birth but the other person had a child. Same moment but different reactions and it could've been only memorable to one person. In my case though, that is one of many memorable moments I have encounterered in my seventeen years. I know what you're thinking and yes I was definitely the one that
The cultural influences of Fencing are quite thick. Most of this can be traced in a linear fashion if we observe the history of the sport from when it picked up its name as we know it today. There are periods throughout history and prehistory where armed combat, in general, was something that was measured competitively. Let us glimpse through time. As mentioned above, the earliest records were dated back to the 11th century B.C.E., from there, Homer’s Iliad mentions hero duels of single combat, as well as gladiatorial combat. Gladiatorial combat was likely rarely person versus person, so much as it was thousands versus thousands. Though warriors that dueled in this era were lightly armored and used various other weapons aside from swords as the main weapon, and was oft accompanied by a shield.
Growing up in the middle of Ohio with neighbors, no closer than a mile down the road made for a good chance that an ornery eight-year-old boy to learn all the fun tricks from his father. I loved living in the country, you could do just about anything you wanted without getting yourself in trouble. My father, Rich worked out of town during the week to support our family. When the weekends came I knew that meant it was time us to spend time together and for me to learn his ways.
Old moments that come to stay spinning in my head, making me cry, laugh, and contemplate. Those beautiful moments that will never be repeated, because they have gone with the wind leaving coldness. Those moments that tomorrow we will not see because you has left. Now you're flying in the other world, watching over us.
I once heard a saying, “Your hardest times, often lead to the greatest moments of your life. Keep the faith. It will all be worth it in the end.” It all began on----> June 22, 2005. Boohoo, I Whimpered. It was a murderous weep, like a Murderous lion trying to eat an innocent deer. So one day, well the first day I ever experienced light was June 22, 2005. My Mother would always say “You’re certainly a prodigy.” I was born on a military base called 29 palms in California. My Biological Mother was named Elica. She was horrible. She made horrible choices and I'm glad that I was adopted when I was eight months old From June 22, 2005 to June 22, 2006, I always took a bath in the sink. I took a bath in the sink because I was small and I wouldn't fit in a bathtub, obviously haha
The most unforgettable moment of my life was when 9.79 earthquake struck Nepal in April 2015. There were some warnings for Nepal to be prepared for a major earthquake since 2001, though it came in 2015 and brought with it death and destruction.
