My Personal Identity : The Definition Of Identity

My identity can be defined by moments in my life. Moving to Canada, learning English and going to high school are three major moments in my life. Going through these experiences have changed the person in me and made me more confident, stronger, better in everything.

Identity, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “the distinguishing character or personality of an individual,” (Identity). Identification is the act that people employ to distinguish themselves from others, creating a unique set of qualities or characteristics that one believes makes them dissimilar to others. One's identity is taking oneself from the general population, and categorizing oneself into various sub-lets of the global community.

Identity is what makes a person unique. It is the soul and the essence of a human being. People are not born with a fixed identity. Identity is inherently dynamic; it changes and evolves over time. A person’s identity is ultimately shaped by their decisions. My identity is different from those who surround me. I create my own identity.

Identity is who we are, even though it can be hard sometimes to find out exactly what that means. That is why our identities can be so easily changed and shaped by different things. This is especially true during our adolescent years, when we are vying for acceptance from others. Sometimes we are the ones who shape who we are. This can happen when we choose to ignore outside influences who would normally affect us. Nevertheless, most of the time we are shaped by other people. Human beings have a never ending want to be socially accepted. We are all insecure in our own way, leaving us prey to the influence of others. We are able to choose how we act and what we do, but even so we end up being changed by everyone who surrounds us. Although we have the freedom to make our own conscious decisions, ultimately the people around us shape who we are by the way they treat us.

Webster’s dictionary defines Identity as, “the distinguishing character or personality of an individual”. It is the sole factor of what makes a person unique from the millions of others. Finding a person’s identity can be a difficult task. Equality from the dystopian novel, Anthem by Ayn Rand has to go through an immense journey of self-discovery before he found his identity. His journey was one that was filled with hardships and difficulties but in the end his goal was met. Similarly, Mario Della Grotta who was popularized by the non-fiction article, who holds the clicker, by Lauren Slater also had to go through a similar journey. What is identity? A normal person would think that it’s simply defined as who we are. However, there are many definitions of identity, as it can mean differently for others. Identity is what makes us unique from one another because there is no one else like us. Since our surroundings, such as the people we meet and places we go to, possess a role into shaping who we are, we are constantly changing. As we grow up and become curious, we experiences many things and start to see different sides of ourselves. We start to question our individuality, to the point where we may struggle with whom we really are. Identity is the beliefs and values that a person holds that makes them different from others. One’s identity forms who they are, what they do, and why they do it. In my life, I have found my identity from my Christian faith, which stands on the teachings of Jesus Christ, who taught believers to always serve and love others. These lessons have shaped my identity into what it is today. A large part of my identity is my passion for serving and supporting others and I believe that what I have learned as a Christian has shaped my desire for placing others before myself.

There are over a billion people that live on this planet. Every person has a label that describes how they live, act, and dress. That label is called an identity. An identity is something that is giving from a parent, teacher, friend, or yourself. Fingering out your identity can take years, but once found people become better citizens. People that I hang around describe me as an energetic, down to earth person. Unlike my parents and friends, I define myself by my quietness around people.

Identity according to the definition is the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. Identity in my own words is what distinguishes a person in their social relations with others or other collectives. Every single human being in this universe is different from everyone else, Everyone has their own unique traits which from them; who they are. We are in charge of our fate, who we are, who we want to be, we are in charge of ourselves, we decide how we act, how we think, we decide all of these sorts of things. Through the horrific and through the happiest periods of time, We decide if we are going to persevere through them and keep our heads from clashing with weakness or if we are going to give up; feel frail and adapt to a very fragile mindset that keeps the head bowed down.

Hello Paige, I live in Edmonton as well. Your hobbies are really interesting! It's always rewarding to indulge in a healthy and calming outlet such as yoga or meditation. I admire your strong sense of identity, you seem incredibly comfortable and confident in yourself and your passions. Although my major is not Psychology, I did take a General Psychology course in high school and I'm enrolled in PSYCH 290 and I have to say it's an extremely fascinating subject; probably one of my favorites this semester. I believe that from reading even a brief introduction about you that such an endeavor truly fits your personality.

Someone’s identity is what classifies them as unique from anyone else. It involves your one’s permanent and discriminate characteristics and beliefs that would classify one as unique from everyone else. Identity is often confused with interests, hobbies, etc., however those things can change. Since identity is one’s innermost values and important beliefs, it is extremely hard to change one’s true identity after his identifying teenage years. In short, identity is your inner, stagnant values that define who you are and affect what you believe in.

Identity is what creates us as a person, sometimes we even face some problems trying to find ours. For instance, I was wondering what my two personalities were, but I found out that I have multiple identities. First, is my social identity. My social identity has to do with my friends, family and social activities that I do on daily basics such as dancing, playing sports, listening to music, pretty much any activity outside my school and work environment. My second Identity is cultural which involves food and my music preferences, my first language, and my backgrounds and how I dress. Another one is my identity as a daughter. When I'm with my parents I'm a different person than when I'm with my friends because I believe they deserve more respect

I believe that a person’s identity is comprised of many things, including the type of people they hang out with and their actions towards other people. Your identity is how other people see you. I also believe that a person’s identity can change over time due to something like a traumatic event or even the maturity that person gains as they grow older. There are many ways to describe who I am as a person and my identity. I believe the three main facets of my identity are sports, reliability, and, most importantly, the fact that I am a brother.

Many theorists see Identity as something that is solid and unchanging - something that is true to your inner-self. Others argue that your identity is something that is constantly changing and adapting, and something that requires commitment and action to sustain. Problems that occur with finding an identity lie in that people seek to be accepted into that new identity and be validated by others.
