My Writing Experience

While writing might seem like a simple task, it can be a daunting task for a lot of people. Sometimes it can be hard to express the ideas in your mind in the words of a paper. This results in a disconnect with what a writer may actually think. A great writer is one that can transform his thoughts into words perfectly. This is a craft that takes many years to perfect, which is why writing is troublesome for a lot of us. Many students also have had bad experiences with writing. Maybe they had a teacher that didn’t try to support them and their writing. They might not have ever gotten the help they needed and may feel that they are in a hole where their writing can’t get better. At this point, they just accept that their writing will never get better.

English has never been my strongest topic nor has the writing process been easy when faced with writer block. This challenge made writing difficult at times in where I was unable to think what should be written next. In this portfolio, I include a variety of pieces in the growth in my abilities of overcoming this challenge as a writer. As I reflect back at the end of the semester on my work in the writing 01 course, I am able to see clearly how much have improved as a writer and display my growth. I have learned about myself in term of weakness and strength and learned from them. My childhood never consisted of a basic family routine. Other than my own house, I spent a majority of my time between my aunt’s and grandma’s house, which had a major impact on the way reading and writing has affected my life today. I was around the age of four when I began the first stages of my interests in reading. My aunt was the first one to sit down with me and begin the layout of my love for reading by teaching me the alphabet and the basic sounds of each letter. And my grandma was the first one to ensure the writing factor as she often told me stories that she had written herself. These two women, along with my schooling, are the benefactors behind my success in reading and writing to this day. Reading and writing have been very important

Reflecting on my peers work, I noticed a wide variety of writing quality, It varied in length and quality. Comparing it my own I can’t say that my personal writing is better. Since the people ranged differently. Some of my peers writing was better than mine and others were better. I did realize that most people put in a lot of effort and comparing my writing to that it shows that I need to put in more time to get the quality of writing. Furthermore, I was surprised when there was a minimum of 500 words some people went beyond the requirements while other did it. During the debates, some individuals did put in the effort to make a good argument and that showed through in their mid-term. And since it was a group debate assignment a lot of experience and levels of writing came together to come up with the best outcome.

One of my most challenging experiences in writing was actually in Virginia Wesleyan College. During my last semester, I was taking Professor Ruh’s ENG 250 class called 19th Century American Women Writers, and we were required to write a few literary analytical essays on novels and short stories that were written by women during the 19th century. Even though the class was very interesting, I was having such a hard time writing my essays that I actually thought I would never be able to pass his class after I failed my first essay. I am usually the type of student that never asks for help because I would often feel intimidated by my teachers. However, I managed to speak up and ask for his help throughout the entire semester and because of that,

Literature to me has been uplifting, motivational, and therapeutic; I was hooked from my very first book. No matter what occurred in my life I always had a book or writing as an outlet. My love off reading was the catalyst for my interest in writing. Reading such beautiful novels created a need within me to learn such a craft. My first attempts on my voyage ultimately ended in cringe worthy disasters; however I do believe I have come a long way in my stride to learn all I can on literature. My writing has become much more structured and articulate, I have also seen my literary understanding expand; I do still have a few weaknesses I need to work through, such as my struggle with concentration through timed writing, as well as my less than noteworthy

I have tremendously improved as a writer during the time spent in this class. Composition one has taught me many lessons that will benefit me down the road. I have learned how to become a better writer, and I have learned many different tips to make my work the best it can be. During the months spent in composition one, I have written four essays. I struggled with some essays more than others, but I still made all of the deadlines. My best two essays are essay one and essay two.

This year, I was challenged as a writer to graduate from childlike formulaic writing. In Composition I, the first week of class resulted in unnerving changes. We were rid of the impeding constraints of a formula and were never assigned topics. I’ll admit at first it was a little difficult having neither a formula nor assigned topic, but it was also freeing. Being able to freely write has allowed me to grow and not limit my flourishing abilities.

Since I graduated from Chinese high school, I don’t have any experience of conducting a research paper before this paper 4. In my writing experience, I needed to huge amount of time spend a large amount of time on the process of learning specific knowledge on the topic. I wanted to make the whole article more readable and attractive. My prior knowledge on this topic is based on my own experience. Then I used my stories in the research paper to prove the topic sentence. In order to drafted the paper, the topic concepts like bilingual and its advantages have to be considered and researched carefully on the internet. In the feedback process, some negligible improvement was made on my structure from my partner. The responses on the revision is

Many intellectuals describe their educational journey as a step path which will be worth nothing in the end. Mine, on the other hand, will not only impact my life but as well as the life of others. I want to do more with my life, then working at a fast food restaurant. I want to be somebody, and to be somebody, you must have an education. Having an education in today’s society means nothing unless you know how to use it properly. The central part of having an education is learning how to write and the different ways you must write. I, unfortunately, have always struggled with the concept of writing ever since I could remember. However, this semester has taught me that being different with my writing, is a good thing. No matter how bad I thought I was, I can always continue to improve.

My writing experience started, like for most kids, in elementary. At nineteen, I remember every little about the very beginning of my writing experience. However, I remember that I did well in my English classes. I loved to read and many people said that that is a factor for why I excelled in that class. Besides writing for school assignments, I wrote songs. During elementary, besides books, music was my escape from reality. Although music did not have as much of an impact as books on me, songs were pretty close, so I decided to write them. And I continued to do so until the sixth grade.

As a Human, throughout life there are many skills that are critical to acquire, during childhood and as you become older. One of the most important and useful skill you will need is writing. From first, learning to write words and sentences, to more advanced writing like essays. Everyone learns to write a little differently, some ways are learning from your parents or learning words and letters in kindergarten. As you get further down the path of life you develop higher skills of writing. As people grow up their life gets more advanced and difficult and they have to worry about more things; in a sense writing is the same way as you grow up you learn more skills and the requirements increase. For myself it was a lot different than others.

It is strange to think about the fact that we are a mere week away from finishing our first semester of college. There have been times when I didn’t think I was going to make it through as well as times when I didn’t want it to end. The first-year writing seminar has been one of the highlights in the first step of my four-year journey. While it may have had its ups and downs, the ups were far more plentiful than the downs, and the height of those ups far out measured the depths of the downs.

I’ve been surrounded by words my whole life. My parents would speak to me before I was even born and continued to talk to me after being born. Without words there would be no such thing as a sentence. We wouldn’t be able to have an intellectual conversation or be able to write. I’m not sure if a conversation would be a thing. Words are the main component of the English language or any language for that matter. The world would be completely different without the use of letters and words.

Writing has always been like taking the pink liquid medicine when you were a kid to me. A simple task that you know it's the best for you but it is so hard to swallow or get the nerve to attempt to do even though you know it won't kill you and you should do it. I have always dreaded writing anything that I have to, even if it is a letter home to my family it still takes me forever to gather ideas and put words on paper.
