This essay will be a self-evaluation of my writing style, and the improvements I have made over the past three months. Before I took this class I had not written a paper since the last time I was in college. That was around 2004, my major was computer software. For that major there isn’t a whole lot of writing involved. This was more of a refresher class than anything. To be honest I was a little intimidated, for the simple reason I had not written anything like this since high school. I will discuss how I discovered my writing process. My development as a writer throughout this semester, and finally I will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of my essays. At first, I had major difficulty knowing where to begin. This was especially difficult when, I was writing my paper personal grudges. I’m a very private person and, for that reason, I really had difficulty opening up to the audience. I found the best thing I could do to write down all of my ideas, without any real direction. I would write for a couple of hours. I would then leave it and come back the next day. The following day, I would edit it and, develop my thesis. When I proofread my papers, they always seemed out of order. Upon realization of this, I began to cut and paste my ideas, all around the essay, until I found the correct place. This was of great help and my assignments started to improve. I really turned a corner in my paper addiction. I found my voice and really opened up to the reader. I was brutally
During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple journals, research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and procrastinated for much of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term paper my senior year, I found out that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped me out greatly. I was not just throwing something together just to get the grade and the paper finished. I spent time on the paper and
I am tearing my hair to squeeze every single word from my poor mind to finish this letter. Yet deep in my frontal cortex, there is no part of mechanisms that is designed for writing a self-analyzing letter to my instructors. However, it has been ten weeks I studied in this course, and all my favorite works in these ten weeks are gathering in this tiny portfolio. I have wrote a several rhetorical practices that taught me basic rules of rhetorical essays. I have wrote a rhetorical analysis, which explained both the thesis of the reading and my own arguments against the reading. I finished my last rhetorical project three days ago with telling another interesting story. All these assignments were tiny pieces of my writing style and they built up together to present me a general concept of being a successful writer. I learned that, and I made a number of changes to upgrade my writing skills. At last, I decide to offer you these changes I have made as a start-up story writer in the college.
This semester of writing has been truly interesting for me. Being able to write within a topic that interests me has made the process more exciting and engaging. I can see this growth in my papers this semester, but I feel that other, perhaps, cannot. It is true that the mechanics of my writing have improved and I am more able to articulate my thoughts and position. However, the real improvement, that other may not see, has been in my self-esteem and confidence in my own writing skills. I chose my sixth writing assignment as my example of progress for a variety of reasons. The two most prominent reasons are that it is one of my later assignments, and, therefore, will represent the most recent evidence of my progress and that it received my highest grade of all of my assignments.
During this semester in English 107, I have progressed more as a writer. Before I went to University of Arizona, my writing was rigid. I wrote five-paragraph TOEFL style essay all the time in my high school life. After I attended in English 107, I was not confident about my writing skill. Throughout these three projects we have done, I become more and more confident about my writing skill than before. The Student Learning Outcomes also helped me to grow as a writer a lot. In these goals, I did well on several of them, but I still need to work on the other goals.
Throughout my many years of taking English courses I have learned great things. With this, I have had great writing experiences and developed strength in writing. Though I have learned many new skills on writing, I still strive to be a better writer. In this essay, I will discuss how my education, prior writing experiences, writing strengths, and writing weaknesses factor into my choice.
As a writer, I have improved greatly since the first exploratory narrative essay. There have been many challenges that I have faced in my writing, but I have dealt with them in the best way possible. Over the course of the three papers I have written, I have improved in the flow of the papers, as well as the content of the papers. This semester, I have managed to overcome most of the challenges in my writing and have grown as a writer because of it.
Although my writing process is not where I want it to be yet, I have made significant improvement. This class has been instrument in providing me the necessary guidance to improve my skills and grow in many areas. I feel more confident and will continue to work tirelessly to continue to grow. In regards to the final draft of this week critical essay and my writing process in general focuses on several key techniques. I have found my brainstorm technique to be an effective way to embrace any subject I have to write about. My weakness lies probably in organizing my writing. I’m working on following Dr. Idowu’s guidelines and recommendations to strengthen my abilities to deliver better results. Our professor’s guidance has help me tremendously,
This semester has been an eye opener to me about how I formulate ideas and outlines to my papers and visual works. My writing style and skills have gone through many changes throughout English 150 but by far there have been three areas where I have seen the most improvement. How I compose and formulate my works, using certain resources and how I integrated them into my paper, how I edit those works, and how well I use the advice and guidance from my peers to help me revise or complete my works.
Throughout my school education, my writing process have improved but, not to the point where I’m proud of my writing skills. Although I always have difficulties when it comes to writing, I also like what I write specially when the topic relates to your personal life. One main thing that I do like about my writing is that I’m straightforward and clear to what I’m trying to explain. Many of my english teachers especially during high school, they have always told me that my writing is understandable but, is really hard for me to organize my ideas. My process for writing is laced with confusion; Confusion towards a product I am happy with and proud of, confusion towards which steps to take and when, confusion about if I am processing my literature correctly. The work samples display the gradual change to my writing style. In the beginning of my first year, I was not as confident in my ability to write. To this day, I may struggle with my spelling or grammar, but I have come a long ways from that first essay. From my English classes I have learn how to express my ideas through my writing. I also learned to importance of literature and have grown to appreciate reading book outside of those assigned in class. I valuable lesson I learned in my English class was how to properly write a letter and resume, and I believe that that are valuable lessons to have in the future as I become a professional.
Writing an essay has always been a difficult and tedious task in my opinion. The writing process I followed when creating the original assignment consisted of research, a rough draft, a small amount of editing, and a final draft. Researching the topic was the first step I took in writing my paper. I searched for credible and useful information that would have a positive effect on my essay. After gathering my information, I worked to create an outline that would assist in the organization and structure of my essay. I then used my outline to begin a rough draft by inserting research, as well as my own thoughts and ideas. After editing and revising my essay, I ended with a final draft. The editing done to the paper was basic and done solely by myself. I did not use any resources such as the writing center. Along with this, peer reviews were not helpful as my group did not strive to make any meaningful corrections or provide any constructive criticism. Because I had little corrections the amount of editing or revising done was limited. Throughout the duration of this class, the process in which I write an essay has changed.
Self-assessment writing is a great way to gain insight into how effective my writing style is and helps me to recognize improvement where they’re needed. Throughout the semester there have been three major essays written. Each one a different style giving the writer a different mindset each time, this results in the finding problems in one essay that may not have happened in another. When self-assessing there needs to be to a criteria on which one can reflect on and categorize their weakest and strongest points in writing, these criteria for example can be content, organization and coherence, style, argument and support, and mechanics. After categorizing there are questions that need to be asked such as, as a writer, what do you do well? And what aspect of your writing needs the most improvement?
I would like to think that I had some significant growth as a writer in my first semester as a college student. My rhetorical analysis essay, persuasive essay, and reflective analysis essay were all very different from each other in how I approached them and felt about them, but each one helped me grow as a writer in different ways. The rhetorical analysis was my first college essay so I felt some extreme self-imposed pressure to do well on it. I really enjoy writing persuasive essays because it causes you to form your own opinions and support them with evidence. My least favorite essay would most likely have to be the reflective analysis essay. I absolutely despise sharing my thoughts and emotions with people, let alone writing them. Beginning the essay was extremely difficult for me. However, I did found it to be the easiest essay to write once I had all my ideas gathered together. The point is, these three essays all had their pros and cons to them, but nonetheless, they each helped me grow as a writer in their own way, which helped me reach many of the stated outcomes for this class. This paper examines some of my work in these essays and describes how I was able to reach some of the course objectives.
