A rivalry in the NBA consists of two teams that face off against each other that have a chip on their shoulders, and have the desire to do whatever it takes to bet the other team to show superiority. Some of the NBA's most famous rivalries include the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons, Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers, and the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks. So there are many intense rivalries in the NBA, but the Los Angeles Lakers and and the Boston Celtics are by the far the most historical.

In the 1970s the NBA was a parity it had all players to be treated equally. The 70s had a mixture of great players that were striving to be one of the best and they did accomplish that by becoming great in their respected teams. All decades past and present have their teams. The 1950s had the Minneapolis Lakers dominating most of that decade. The 1960s had been dominated by the Boston Celtics led by the great Bill Russell winning eleven championships with the Celtics.
