Natural Gas Natural gas is another means of energy source that provides heating and electricity to many individuals. It is a natural mixture of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and hydrogen sulfide. Natural gas was first found back in 1626 when the French found the natives lighting gas seeping in and out of the ground around Lake Erie. When natural gas was first introduced into civilization as a means of energy source it was not efficient nor was it environmentally friendly. It was first in the United States in Baltimore, Maryland in 1816 when it was used to light the street lamps. The first well that was dug for Natural Gas purposes was in 1821 in Fredonia, New York by William Hart. He is known as the “father of natural gas: in …show more content…

In particular, the state of Pennsylvania has created a number of regulations to control the modern day fracking procedures and practices. Companies like Chesapeake Energy utilize a combination of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling to obtain more natural gas and cover more area. Currently, 30% of our country’s natural gas supply is extracted domestically and contributes to the 25% of our nation’s energy that comes from natural gas. Coal is the main source of energy at 30% and following natural gas are nuclear, hydro, wind, and solar. Natural gas leaves half the amount of carbon footprint that coal leaves. Natural gas is primarily used for electric power, but is also used to create material such as steel, glass, paper, cloth, and brick. It is also used in raw material such as paints, fertilizer, plastics, antifreeze, dyes, photographic film, medicines, and explosives. (EIA,
Hydrocarbons: Hydrocarbons are a form of organic compounds consisting exclusively of hydrogen molecules and carbon molecules. Classes of this composite entail: arenes, alkynes, alkenes, and alkanes. Hydrocarbons are chief workings of natural gas, oils, and pesticides, which can lead to some negative effects on the environment.
Not only is breathing in the methane fumes a risk to health, but also methane is flammable. In Wyoming, a leaking methane gas well burst into flames, swaying the views of several individuals (Lavelle 109). Since this well not only leaked methane but also natural gas, this fire quickly expanded and burned a large flame. This fire lasted for months until the firefighters were finally able to put it out. Copious amounts of individuals became forced to evacuate and eventually, their homes would be engulfed in the flames. Another fire broke out, but this time it was located in a home. A family in Colorado, who lived near a fracking well were enjoying supper (Lavelle 109). Shortly after supper concluded the mother turned on the sink to wash
Natural gas has supplied energy to humanity since the 19th century, it offers great jobs, and is more affordable than other energy sources. Without fossil fuels/natural gas it would harder and more expensive to have everyday energy. With fracking being a big part in today’s world, people still wonder if the chemicals used are really dangerous and if there is another way to make them more earth
W hy does everyone care so much about natural gas? Why is it such an essential part of modern culture? Sure, it's an exciting and up and coming technology, which is fuel for the technological generation that we've grown up in, but we need to take a closer look to see the methods and impacts that could affect generations after us.
The Industrial Revolution created a society and energy consumption based on coal. However, in a more traditional society, natural gas has been obtained through oil drilling. While
What is fracking? Fracking is a way of recovering natural gas deep from within the earth. It has been used for many years but recently has increased in use because most of the other sources of recovering natural gas have been exhausted.Fracking is an easy way of getting the natural gases but it does cause some problems in the process. The fluid used when fracking can contaminate the drinking water and many nearby residents can never really be prepared if something dangerous happens.
Coal seam gas (CSG) is mostly composed of methane and is typically attached to coal underground. This gas is released when pressure on the coal seam is reduced by removing water from the seams (Queensland Government, 2014 ). In order to obtain the gas, wells are drilled into the coal seams, bringing water from the coal seams to the surface. This process reduces pressure and allows the gas to be released (Queensland Government, 2014 ). CSG is an important energy resource in Queensland and production of this gas takes up an ever-increasing proportion of Queensland gas use.
Natural gas exploration began in the late 1940s’ to extract the natural gas located in underground reserves. The process consisted of digging a vertical well into the ground to release gas trapped in relatively
Natural Gas is one of the main sources of energy for many of our daily needs and activities because of the clean, safe, and useful characteristic. Natural gas is colorless,
Have you ever imagine the earth run out of resources, especially gasoline? The most significant energy we use to take for granted may be in tight supply. It would be a major inconvenience for us. That’s why I am here to discuss about it, that’s why I am here to save the earth, and that’s why I want all of you to join with me today. With fossil fuels nearing extinction, the United States has very limited options for providing the country’s millions of energy consumers with an energy source that is affordable and cost effective ; therefore, the solution is hydraulic fracking, also known as “fracking,” Natural Gas has the capabilities of fueling American cars and homes for the next hundred years, and the best part is the United States is the largest supplier of natural gas. Let’s broke it down to 3 major parts: first, how fracking natural gas affects our environment, second how it is going to boost up the economy, and third how it makes the United States becomes energy independent.
Natural gas has been found to be so much safer to use to heat a house than with an electric heater. Heating a home with natural gas is much safer than heating a home with electric. Electric heaters are known for catching fire, sparking, and burning. The most common thing electric heaters are known for is shorting out and causing the electric sockets to burn. Electric heaters are not always the warmest things they take a very long time to heat homes even if they’re not all that small. Natural gas heaters take less time to heat any sized home and heats the home almost 100% warmer. Natural gas is 120 to 140 degrees warmer than any other heat, can be used to heat water, and to heat your pool outside. There are many reasons to love natural gas, it’s easier to install and transport, its warmer, cooks faster, and is better to use as fuel. One thing no one is told when natural gas is used is if it leaks and no one knows the chance of getting carbon monoxide poisoning is very
Natural gas is made up of just the two elements, Carbon and Hydrogen. All of the natural gas we use today began as microscopic plants and animals living in the ocean. As they become buried ever deeper, heat and pressure begin to rise. Natural gas deposits migrated until they were caught under impermeable layers of rock or clay, where they were trapped. (“Natural gas and,” 2013)
Natural gas is naturally occurring in the earth's surface. Its chemical consist is dominantly methane, carbon and hydrogen atoms, also contains a small amount of gaseous hydrocarbon gases and non-hydrogen gases. Consumption of natural gas is for fuel and we produce materials and chemicals. Raw natural gas is odorless, so companies that supply natural gas are adding artificial smell, like rotten egg, to let people know the presence of gas. The formation of the natural gas is the same as petroleum or oil.
Natural gas is one of the most beneficial resource our environment has to offer to us and people need to use this resource because it is so cheap. Companies include the Prius with Toyota, the Leaf with Nissan or another innovation in electric or hybrid motoring who are using electricity in their cars because they are trying to get in to the environmental friendly automotive market. Honda came out with a better idea when they made the Honda Civic Natural Gas car. The reasons being, this car is different than those of the electric cars is that it uses natural gas to run the car and the positive effect it has on the environment is the fact that when using the resource it gives off partial zero emissions into the environment. Honda Civic has really changed the automobile industry because people are copying their idea of using natural gas to run their cars like Chevy did with their 2014 F-150 truck and
