Angela Duckworth, a psychology professor at the University of Pennsylvania, coined the term grit (Smith, 2). "Experts define grit as persistence, determination and resilience..." (Smith, 1). I chose to attend LaGuardia Community College because this school was recommended by family members who had attended this college. Many people had told me that I would receive a lot of help with academic advising and other resources. At first, I was hesitant of coming to LaGuardia Community College, but I am happy with my decision. I think I have made the most out of my time at LaGuardia Community College. I have managed to keep my grades up and am a part of Phi Thetta Kappa Honor Society and on the Dean's List for Academic Achievement.

I chose Bingham Academy because my mom wanted me to go here and it's it's a public charter school. I am not attending another school because I don't want to and my mom does not want me to. I chose Bingham Academy because it's a small school, there's not very many people attending, and there's a higher chance of people actually learning instead of being told what to do all the time, like most other schools we go until three twenty five or later, in our case, we go until three fifty. Bingham Academy is an open campus as well.

There is people who are grittier than others, but there is always something that motivates people to archive what they want. Having grit help me achieve the principle medal I wanted. Having scored 3.9 I am grittier than 60 percent of the American adult, more than half of the American adult. I feel I have grit of 3.9 because I have I do not feel I have little bit of grit or lots of grit, but just I feel I am in the middle. How did I use my grit to achieve I want?

Everyone strives to do better and succeed, why would people want to do worse? The key to succeeding may be different across unique people, but a trait known as grit was introduced by a psychologist named Angela Duckworth in a TedTalk, “…One characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success. It wasn 't social intelligence, it wasn 't good looks, physical health, and it wasn 't IQ: It was grit.” Grit, in my words, is the capability of failing or persevering through difficulties and still being able to succeed in the end. Whether you are or not familiar with grit, it has the potential to change lives, and examples of this trait are shown in my personal life, the arts, and world events.

After participating in the grit quiz during the first week of school, my score totaled to 4.5, I believe that a 4.5 is an accurate reflection of my gritiness. Grit can be seen as the strength of one’s character. I believe I have an extremely strong character. A person with grit is more than likely a person who has been through a lot of tough times in their life, and others who lack grit may have an easy life, and do not push themselves to get through tough times. Grit is knowing that your math test next week is going to be harder than the last one but still practicing and striving to improve. Grit isn’t just about getting better, but wanting to get better and slowly doing it over time. I can apply this growth mindset in my English class this year by using my creativity and talent, trying again when I make mistakes and by remembering that I’m always working towards a long-term goal.

In conclusion, grit is a great aspect in success. It is an amazing thing that we people have to succeed in our future endeavors. This perseverance is the keys to the success in college. Grit helps people persevere through harsh obstacles in life. By having grit you learn to ignore people that remind you that you are going to fail and by being grittier, you persevere, ignore awful comments, and take criticisms to succeed. With the necessity of having grit you gain this courage of overcoming the fears of failure and succeed in your academic and life’s goals. Maintaining grit in all aspects of one’s life ensures success from beginning to end. It gives people the resilience to be optimistic and confident to get up every time they get knock down

My grandma has shown me the definition of grit just by allowing me to take part and see what her life was and is like. My grandma has always shown grit from the day she was born until now. When she was young her father became blind and years later passed away through that she grew up as a tough spirited young women. After college life she decided to put her talents to work and got a job at school as a cook and at a camp as a cook. When she wasn’t working at school you could bet she was working at the camp doing what she loved. When life settled down someone obviously along the line said your life is too easy and she later found out that her hips were becoming brittle and they needed to be replaced so she had surgery at around the age of sixty.
