While deciding on the career that I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life, I began looking at job availability and job security. Nursing fulfills both criteria as it is a job that is in high demand and will always be needed in the world, especially in hospitals and nursing care facilities such as nursing homes or rehabilitation centers. One thing that inspired me to become a nurse is that fact that my mother is a nurse. She has always been employed and has had the opportunity to see the functionality of nursing at many different levels and job settings. Always feeling secure about a career choice is something that I value deeply because it ensures me that I will always be able to find a way to provide for myself and my future family. Nurses can work a variety of shifts that can accommodate almost any schedule of lifestyle. For instance, a nurse can obtain a job working eight hour shifts, twelve-hour shift, sixteen hour shifts, or a combination of shift lengths. Nurses can also work either day shift or night shift, this will accommodate almost any person including those who prefer to work at night. I personally, would rather work during the day when many things are happening because I do not like to not have things to do. I must be walking around or doing something always. This is a major reason that I have chosen the nursing field, it can accommodate almost any schedule regardless of your preferred work
For me nursing was not something that I initially intended to do as a career. During elementary school and into high school I contemplated many different career paths such as cosmetology, teaching, psychology, and forensics. It was not till the later years of high school that I started to notice my desire to help other individuals and love of science, health, and different disease processes. My desire to help people has originated from the admiration of my grandfather’s
As a course of life, people are born, raised, and go to school until the time comes where they need to make a decision about their career. In fact, most careers have one common theme among them---Help or give back to community and society. I for one have chosen a career in nursing to help people and give back to my community. Other than the fact that I want to help people, a career in nursing will expand my horizons, give me career opportunities, and job satisfaction.
Nursing, in my opinion, takes full commitment from someone. One must be knowledgeable, dedicated, and willing to help others at all cost. My mother is the greatest nurse I have ever encountered and has been my inspiration since I can remember. She has been a nurse for over 20 years and I have been captivated ever since. I was born to do this, to advocate and help others that are in need. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills learned in a real hands-on situation has given me the utmost motivation to fulfill my dreams of one day becoming a nurse. I was able to successfully complete my rounds of clinical hours as part of my nursing program at various locations and departments. I was assigned to MD Anderson, Harris County Psychiatric Center, and Silverado Memory Care Community, where I was able to work with many different types of patients and become acclimated to the environment. The duties in which I was able to preform varied location to location but included, head to toe assessments, insertion/removal of Foley catheters, medication administration, tube feedings, trachea suctioning, and numerous care plans just to name a few. I was able to interact with patients one on one as a student which has instilled confidence and reassurance in my future.
Nursing has always been a natural choice for me. From the time I was a little girl I received satisfaction and enjoyment from providing care for my great-grandmother, ensuring my elderly neighbor wasn’t lonely, various forms of problem solving and all things science related. Compassion, care and critical thinking are merely
The nursing profession was designed to focus on individual care, their families and the communities they serve to ensure accessibility to optimal health. Nurses are not limited to a specific practice. They work in a variety of settings and serve countless roles in the hospital community. They are a support system when bad news is relayed but they are also birthday party hosts for ailing children. Being a nursing student will not only challenges my intellect but also my character.
Work that is involved on a basic daily routine is somewhat unordinary. Occasionally you won’t have the same patients, or you may not work the same hall or even the same shift. You can have from 1 to 8 patients at a time which makes time with your patients limited. The duties of a Registered Nurse (RN) are typically as follows; recording past medical history, setting up care plans, observing the patient and following their progression, talking to the doctor about the patient's care, using and also observing medical equipment, teaching the patient or the family how to continue care for the patient’s problem, and explain how to do it at home.
Nursing is an amazing profession to pursue. It can be stressful but has so many rewarding moments. I’ve been passionate about nursing since middle school and it’s not something I take lightly. A higher education is extremely important to me, especially since I am a first-generation college student.
Even though being a registered nurse has the flexibility of an average job it also can be hard on family life due to the work hours. Depending on the type of facility you choose to work will most likely determine your work hours. If you work in certain places where patients require care all around the clock you could be scheduled
Being a nurse was my childhood dream. It started when my aunt, who was a Military Nurse shared her work experiences with me. Listening to her experiences stimulated my interest in nursing and it developed my core beliefs of community, family, loyalty, and compassion to serve the people who need medical help. It also taught me that all things worthwhile required hard work. Another factor that influenced my interest in nursing was going with my mother who was a Medical Technologist and worked at a local community hospital. At a very young age, I was exposed to how healthcare services were rendered by nurses. I was fascinated to see how they provided care to patients without hesitations, nurtured their profession and achieved self-fulfillment with what they do every day. I learned how therapeutic and comforting an encouraging
The factor that made my decision to choose nursing as my major was mother, Esther. My mother has been a registered nurse for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, my mom would bring me to work with her on some of her night shifts at A.I DuPont Children’s Hospital. I remember going to each room and visiting the patients. It made me happy that my mom was their nurse, and was there to help them get better. As I got older, that feeling of me wanting to make a difference in someone else’s life never went away. There are many different types of nurses in the nursing field. My field of preference is to become a Neonatal Nurse. I enjoy working with babies, and studying closely on how they grow, and develop. Some of the characteristics my mom
I also feel that feel that I may eventually want to pursue a PhD in nursing and teach
Growing up my mother worked as a nurse which consequently built a strong respect as well as admiration for the profession. However, up until the day I left for college I never considered this career for me. As a last resort I made checklist to try and determine the major that best fit my aspirations for the future. Nursing immediately jumped out at me and since then I have been infatuated with the goal of becoming a nurse.
A lot of jobs have a set schedule, but not a nurse practitioner. They can work overtime, and their hours are very prone to getting switched around. “
My interest in nursing dates back to my years in high school, where I actively participated in nursing and pharmaceutical clinicals. Throughout the years, the courses that I participated in lead me to a better understanding of the medical profession and what it would take to become a nurse. These particular courses lead me to believe that earning a degree in Nursing would always be a dream of mine. Since I was a little girl I have always enjoyed taking care of family and friends when they were sick, and till this I still do. I believe that earning a degree in Nursing would give me the opportunity to positively impact not only my family and friends, but
I chose this major because I like to help people. I chose nursing because I want to save lives. I’m interested in nursing also because of my mom. My mom has a lot of health conditions include diabetes, fibromyalgia, asthma, and gastritis. I help my mom on daily basis with her conditions. I love helping my mom. To me, being a nurse is far more than a job or even a career. It's an adventure, a continuous learning process that I embark on bravely each day, in search of life changing events and miracles. I consider myself to be a compassionate person who genuinely enjoys helping people, to positively impact people's lives by making a significant difference while achieving a lifelong dream, because of its endless variety and finally, I believe this is the best career path for me.
