Diversity basically means difference. Diversity is about understanding that everyone has things in common but also that everyone is different. Diversity is about embracing those differences because if everything and everyone was the same then life would be boaring.
Some examples of diversity are listed below: * Gender * Race * Culture * Beliefs * Ability * Talent * Personality * Age
Equality means that everyone has the right to be treated equally and appropriate for their individual needs.

The regulatory bodies that exist in the uk have codes of practice, these codes exist for the benefit of both employers and their workforce, they have been designed to improve the quality of services that people receive in the health and social care field. Below are a few requirements set out in codes of practice that apply to my work role in health and social care:
* Protect the rights and promote the interests of people and their careers – this is to include * The respect for individuality * The respect for equal opportunities * The respect for diversity * The respect for dignity * The respect for privacy
* To establish and maintain the trust of people and their careers – this is to include * No neglect * No abusing * No exploiting * Non forming of improper personal relationships * No discrimination * Don’t abuse trust of confidentiality * No unnecessary risks should be taken
* To uphold public trust and confidence in the social care services – this is to include * Maintaining confidentiality * Using effective communication * Honoring commitments * Declaring conflicts of interest * Non acceptance of gifts

Diversity- The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about
* Diversity is essentially another word for different, it recognises that people are different and unique in many ways such as, personal characteristics, background, culture, personality, race, disability, gender, religion, belief, sexual orientation and age. It means recognising and understanding individual’s differences and embracing them, to allow people feel more valued.
1.1 Areas of legislation are ever changing but it is important to be able to identify current and relevant aspects of those which promote equality and value diversity.
Promote the independence of residents while protecting them as far as possible form danger and harm
It is important to remember that everyone is different and has their own individual experience. In some cases a diagnosis will not be made until, for example the individual is in their 60’s having worked all their life, got married and had a family, but obviously always feeling like a bit of an outsider. Others are obviously very different to other children from an early age and need alot of specialists, help and support – as do the parents.
1.1 Identify the current legislation and codes of practise relevant to the promotion of equality and valuing of diversity.
Diversity means people of different sexes, ages that all have their own different experiences, attitudes, beliefs and preferences. Equality means treating everyone fairly and making equal opportunities available. Inclusion involves making the individual the centre of their life, involving them in everything that is about them so that they are actively involved in all aspects of their life, care and support.
The Service Users i deliver care to are all different in many ways.This can be along the dimensions of gender, age, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, physical abilities, political beliefs, religious beliefs or other ideologies. This means that i have to be aware of a person’s individuality and respect their choices. To be understanding and not show prejudice. Valuing the benefits of someone being different from ourselves, not making assumptions.
My responsibility as a care worker is to be aware of the various policies and legislations that will facilitate good practice when supporting my clients to access services and facilities. I am also expected to monitor and evaluate the service provided to ensure it is meeting the needs of the client.
Diversity – In the literal sense the word ‘diversity’ means different. Through diversity we recognise the uniqueness of the individual and value these differences. Diversity can consist of factors which include personal characteristics such as background, culture, personality and work-style. However, certain characteristics are protected under discrimination such as gender, sexuality, religion, ethnicity, disability and age.
