The issue of abortion is very complex since it raises many issues. People not only have to consider the legal aspect of abortion, but also its medical, ethical, social, biological, and religious aspects, which are still widely debated. First of all, when considering abortion, it is imperative to make sure the mother is safe, which is why people advocate medical procedures over surgical procedures due to the former having less health risks. The drug mifepristone is highly effective and is commonly used to block the production of the hormone that is responsible for proper fetal development and is usually used up to sixty-three days after the beginning of the last menstrual period. I have a neutral view point on abortions and I believe that abortions are highly personal and very private decision for anyone to make. I believe it is never easy for any woman to make a choice about having an abortion. Abortion is a private and personal choice because it is a woman body. Women have the control and choice to do what they want and feel is best for them and their body at that particular moment. No one should be able to tell a woman what she can’t do with her body because it violates her right to choice. Abortions are one of the many things that everyone has an opinion on. As defined by the 2012 Merriam-Webster dictionary, an Encyclopedia Britannica Company, an abortion is, “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation--miscarriage, the induced expulsion of a human fetus, or the expulsion of a fetus by a domestic animal often due to infection at any time before completion of pregnancy.” Abortions have always been and will probably always be a controversial topic in which everyone will not agree upon. During the controversy, two groups have emerged. These groups are referred to as pro-life and pro-choice. They believe that life is valuable and the life of the unborn baby has the same rights as the mother. Abortion is and always will be a very controversial subject. No matter which side of the subject you fall on people are very passionate about their choices. I read excerpts from Frederica Mathews-Green’s book, Real Choices: Listening To Women; Looking for Alternatives To Abortion. Ms. Mathews- Green told of how as a young woman in college she cheered for the outcome of Roe VS Wade and was all for abortion rights. Over the years as she learned about abortion, what it actually is and what it actually does to a women she had a change of mind.

The issue of abortion is has been widely debated for many years and still continues to lead headlines today. It sparks debates in classrooms, courtrooms, and family rooms across the country as the issue is so complex, there are a variety of views and responses to its morality and legality. To understand the current debate over the issues concerning abortion we must not look at this issue from a black and white perspective of what is right and what is wrong , but rather we must take a comprehensive approach which analyzes the complex questions and factors tied to the morality of abortion. Abortion has been a controversial topic for centuries not only in the United States but also in the other parts of the world. Politicians always struggle to strike a balance between the rights of the unborn and the rights of the pregnant woman.

We live in the world, in which every person has his/her opinion towards a topic. People debate deeply on topics such as abortion, gun control/safety, and marriage equality. The conflict between two sides of abortion has occurred ever since 1960s and early 1970s due to Roe v. Wade case. “In Roe v. Wade (1973), the U.S. Supreme Court stated that abortion bans were unconstitutional in every state, legalizing abortion throughout the United States (Head).” This case was about Roe, who was a single pregnant woman who fought Texas criminal abortion laws. Due to her case, majority voted and made abortion lawful; however many people do not agree on this decision and that is why the debate on abortion is still happening today. Both sides of debate exaggerate and do not want to understand their opponent’s point of view of the topic. They are all blinded in their own “truth”, and do not want to hear anything else.

On the opposite, pro-life supporters assume that fetuses are human, and they are subjected to a lot of pain in the process of an abortion. It is wrong to conclude that a fetus is not a human being since it does not talk, or is not a social entity. Pro-life supporters also argue that a fetus is a potential life and any threat to it is breaking a necessary right to life that is entrenched in almost all constitutions across the world.
