P2: Describe indicators that abuse may be happening to adults. Abuse may be revealed in a number of different ways. For example you may find that someone wants to tell you about it because they trust you. Also it might be from someone who has observed the abuse taking place, e.g. resident seeing a care worker shaking another resident because they were too slow getting dressed. The abuse is disclosed to the professional, sometimes with a request for confidentiality. Unexplained injuries A medical opinion is required to label if an injury is non-accidental or accidental. For example, an injury may result from a fall but it may not be clear whether the fall was the result of a push or an accidental trip. However, there are some clear …show more content…
The often make little eye contact and individuals who previously held a range of strong views may become passive. Vulnerable adults may subconsciously signal that all is not well by use of attention-seeking behaviour. Talking about suicide and having suicidal thoughts can also reveal feelings of helplessness and being trapped with no way out. It important to look for patterns of behavioural change rather than focus on one indecent. For example, does a resident’s behaviour become more withdrawn when a particular member of staff is on duty? Financial difficulties Other indicators may include unexplained withdrawals from bank accounts. This can lead to shortage of food in the house and reluctance to use the heating, even when it is cold, and it may indicate that someone else is enjoying the financial benefits. Sometimes it is hard to tell if the money was given or taken, for instance, by a family member. Stress and related problems The stress caused by abuse may show itself through associated health problems. Stress affects our cardiac, neurological, respiratory, gastro-intestinal and muscular systems. People who are under stress for any length of time may experience some of the following symptoms: panic attacks, palpitations, headaches,
Physical abuse of the elderly occurs when a carer harms the individual or places them in danger. A carer may be a family member or someone who is responsible for taking caring of them. The carer may hit, slap, kick, push, burn, or force feed the elderly person and these are all considered to be signs of physical abuse. They may also give the wrong amount or even the wrong medicine to the elderly person. Physical abuse also includes sexual abuse; when someone has sexual contact with an individual without their consent.
Substance use has always been prevalent in society ever since recorded history in one way or another someone somewhere indulged. Scripture the wine flow like water Greeks and Romans drank as well, Chinese opium dens, and the American Indians even passed the peace pipe in sweat lodge rituals. Along with substance use another thing that hasn't changed are the different views and opinions surrounding these things? The United States wages war on drugs spending billions a year meanwhile manufacturing tobacco and alcohol as if they aren't harmful or addictive. Portugal on the other hand legalized all use and possession of all substances giving the power of free will and lowering the population of their

Child abuse and maltreatment is not limited to a particular age and can occur in the infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age years. Choose one of the four age groups (infant, toddler, preschool, or school age) and discuss the types of abuse that are most often seen in this age. Discuss warning signs and physical and emotional assessment findings the nurse may see that could indicate child abuse. Discuss cultural variations of health practices that can be misidentified as child abuse. Describe the reporting mechanism in your state and nurse responsibilities related to the reporting of suspected child abuse. Include in-text citations and references for each of the scholarly sources used. Respond to other learners ' posts in a manner that
Yes, there are several different types of abuse that the elderly could be experiencing. Many people don’t like to talk about abuse due to fear of retaliation, shame, and embarrassment. It is best to interview the patient and caregiver separately. There could be barriers to obtaining a reliable history such as the patient’s cognitive or psychiatric conditions and family dynamics. From experience I have learned that many caregiver especially when it’s a family member don’t mean to cause harm. Caring for someone is a full time responsibility and it can be very demanding and overwhelming. Often times the person isn’t educated about available resources and is ashamed to ask for help. When someone is identified as a caregiver
8. In this case study there are 3 forms of abuse. Sexual abuse, physical abuse and emotional abuse.
Furthermore, a child abuser shouldn't be able to speak for themselves because they have caused the child to have emotional problems that deal with their behavior. Emotional abuse deals with the parent or guardians neglecting the child making them feel worthless, verbally assaulting them and even ignoring them is considered emotional abuse. The reason why emotional abuse occurs is because some parents/guardians feel stressed and may have poor parenting skill causing them to mistreat their child. Another reason is they were mistreated as a child as well causing them to do the same to their child, but this still is no reason for a person to hurt a child and get away with it. In an article Recognizing Child Abuse: A Guide for the Concerned by Douglas Besharov states that just as physical abuse is an assault on the child's body, emotional abuse is an assault on the child's psyche. Children who are being abused constantly in an emotional way suffer just as much as if they were being
Most of the causes affect your body. Physical effects are as simple as having clothing that are worn and torn to shreds, having bad odor coming from your skin and/or your breath. Another type of physical abuse can be shown by being tested for sexually transmitted diseases and showing up positive for any type of the disease.
Disclosures of harm and abuse will evoke strong feelings for me as a staff member to hearing it. The news may be too overwhelming and potentially difficult to receive it, therefore it is helpful to remain calm and help the resident to remain calm. I should not show any signs of distress, but in case the resident becomes aware of my distress, I need to reassure them that she/he is not the cause of my distress. I need to tell them that I am upset because other people mistreated them. Responding calmly to harm and abuse disclosures, it will encourage the resident to talk freely an openly about their unpleasant experiences. Responding calmly, the resident will notice that my full attention is with them, understanding fully what they are talking.
As most of us believe, the Bible is a handbook that we can follow our whole entire lives. The bible covers many differeht topics such as this topic; addictive substances. The Bible has countless examples of how we should respect the temple of the Lord, our bodies. We should live by the Bibles examples and we should honour the Lords wishes and keep our bodies clean. When the Bible tells us that we should not do something, it is only for our benefit and not to harm us; that message clearly applies to addictive substances.
Substance abuse is a huge problem that has caused over 109,000 deaths per year in the U.S alone! This problem is all around us. We may know people with substance abuse related addictions, but we don't even realize it.
This policy was put into place in 1977 because of children being vulnerable to adults, as a result of this adults feel like they have more power to be possessive. The current situation states that when an adult abuses or harms a child it can cause extreme consequences to the child throughout its life. It can cause mental health disorders, addictions, and related issues. In 2005 there was a house vote for crimes and punishments and injury to children. In the differing viewpoints some parents would say it’s not ok for parents to hit their child as a discipline, other parents would say that in order for the child to learn it is ok to hit, spank him or her as a
There are many factors that impact vulnerability including social conditions, such as education, environmental factors, nutrition, stress and prejudice along with a family’s poverty level. Vulnerability will be discussed as it relates to adolescent substance abuse. Adolescence is considered a vulnerable time in life for many reasons and it’s the most vulnerable time in life for an individual to develop a substance abuse disorder (SUD). This disorder will be explored through the utilization of the Bioecological Family Systems Theory and will be discussed through each system level (microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem, and chronosystem).
For nearly 85 years, the government has prohibited pscychoactive drugs. American leaders attempted to do the same to alcohol with Prohibition in the 1920?s. In any society, drug use plays a part in the people?s culture. Whether it be a native taking hallucinogens for a religious ceremony, a destitute alcoholic drinking on a city street, or a group of teenagers smoking marijuana, drugs and alcohol have the same effects in any culture. The question of ?why do people use drugs? has been a dilemma which American medical experts and government leaders have fought to answer for years. Recently, many institutions and organizations have formed in order to fight the war on drugs and help diminish the percent of Americans who use
