Are fur traders and PETA one in the same? Which is the better side to take? PETA also known as people for ethical treatment of animals is a thirty million dollar animal rights organization. One of the largest in the world it has three million members and supporters. It is known for whistle blowing and rating out factory farms, fur trading industries, and other groups that deal with animals, but like any other large organization it too has dark secrets (About PETA, n.d.). Fur trading industries also have secrets. The big secret is that they both kill animals. Between 1998 and 2014 PETA has taken in 38,464 dogs, cats, and other small pets. They have only adopted out 3,263 and transferred only 1,267 of these animals to other adoption agencies. Behind those “red doors” they don’t tell the public that they have euthanized 33,514 of these pets. Leaving their kill rate at an astounding 86.64% (PETA Kills Animals | Evidence, n.d.). Whereas, fur traders are also egoists benefiting from their sales. Utilitarianism plays a role when they show an extreme form of duty and sacrifice many while stating it is for the wellbeing of others. Animals, employees, the public, and its supporters are all stakeholders that are affected from these types of organizations. The public and supporters think that they are fulfilling their duty to help the welfare of animals when they give money to these organizations. To be an employees you would have to be an egoist to support these people and to perform the duties that are required of you, just to have the right to earn money. The right to live is the most important rights when it comes down to any living thing, because without it we would have no other rights and the animals are the ones who are most
