Pediatric Nurse Scholarship Essay

Wide reaching, nurses significantly outnumbered physicians as providers of health care often having utmost vast reach remoteness to underserved communities. Having personally lived in one of the underserved communities in my hometown Western Africa before moving to the United States of America and my life calling to be a nurse from a young age with the deep desire to make a difference. I plan to contribute and continue to contribute immensely to the underserved communities by delivering quality health care to remote regions around the world. I do volunteer service at several clinics in the Atlanta area with many well-known Emory physicians that care for homeless and underserved populations, these volunteer experiences provide me with opportunities and fulfillment to develop added headship skill and experience to meet my daily patients, needs.

I want to pursue a career in medicine by working in the field of nursing. Specifically, after graduating from Illinois State University, I plan to start working in pediatrics to help me become a certified pediatric nurse. A bachelor's degree from ISU’s Mennonite College of Nursing is a good fit for my educational goals because of your high freshman retention, graduation, and pass rates for national and state licensure examinations. ISU has an excellent academic reputation, and because I am someone who takes my academics seriously, academic quality is important to me. After seeing the campus tour videos, looking at your majors, and learning about the Traditional BSN program, I knew ISU was the school for me. I know that at ISU I can develop the skills necessary for success first in college, then in the nursing field.

My true passion for helping others begins with my mother. My mother, Carla worked for Gallipolis Developmental Center for many years as a nursing assistant. Unfortunately, she sustained a severe back injury that ended her career. In 2006, she was rushed into emergency back surgery after several herniated discs ruptured. This left her with severe back pain that she will suffer with for the rest of her life. As a result, I learned to care and to have compassion for those in need. Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Growing up I’ve always been a handful. But that didn’t stop me from wanting to help people. My goal is to become a Pediatric Registered Nurse. I have always loved children,that's why I love to look after my niece and nephew after school. They live with me in my house of 8 people,and they are busy kids. I know that I cannot rely on my parents to provide for me,my sister,my brother,his wife,and two kids for very much longer. So that is why I am looking everywhere for an opportunity to get hired for something that I am good at,so I can save up money to transfer to a University. I need to make sure that I have 60 units and to maintain my gpa in order to fulfill transfer requirements. Currently I am working as a Registered Nurse in the adult medical intensive care unit. A job in advanced practice will be different from the current job in many ways. I will acquire the skills and competencies required for an advance practice through my master’s level education and clinical experience. The population of focus of my care will change from adults to all ages of the lifespan. I became a bilingual when my and I move the United States. I was born in India speaking Gujarati as my premier language. I can speak three languages including Gujarati , Hindi , and English. I used my bilingual skills when I am volunteering or working to help the staff understand what the person wants.

Some people have many kinds of goals. It is hard to give exact number people who are majored in nursing, but one thing that I know is that the demography is very wide and large. This is because people have different reasons for majoring in this career. I believe the best reason for majoring in nursing is because it has wide varieties of a career that one can major in. Being a nurse is really scary; the nurses’ lives are at risk every day. Nurses need to be sure to bend from the hips and knees correctly to keep from injuring themselves as an example of how nurses should keep themselves healthy and safe.

A pediatric nurse is a nurse that works in the field of pediatrics. They provide medical care to children from the time they are born until they are in there adolescents. Children are not just small adults, especially when it comes to their growing bodies and health. Their bodies are still growing and developing, they have different needs and their bodies and health issues are often much different than those of adults. Healthy bodies and minds, is extremely important during childhood. By monitoring growth and development, and taking care of illnesses and health issues early, pediatric nurses and doctors can help children grow up strong and healthy.
