Locate a current peer-reviewed qualitative research study. Discuss what makes the article a qualitative study.
The peer-reviewed journal that I chose is “Role of District and Community Nurses in Bereavement Care: A Qualitative Study”. The study aimed to understand how the district nurses’ perspective regarding bereavement care and also aimed to increase awareness of bereavement care in other district nurses. In addition, qualitative research is used to examine subjective human experience by using non-statistical methods of analysis (Ingham-Broomfield, 2015).This is a qualitative research study because it used narrative information obtained by conversations with the district nurses (participants) and detailed notes about how the district nurses’

The population that the researcher focused on was the district nurses who had at least two-year experience of community nursing and/or experience in palliative care. The sample size was small, five district nurses as participants in the study. Purposive sampling was used as the sample methodology to identify five nurses with a district or community nursing background (Johnson, 2015). The researcher conducted semi-structured interviews with the district nurses to collect the data. The use of a single method of data collection and a small pool of sampling leads to possibility of sampling bias.
How important is, sample selection related to transferability at the end of the study.
The sample selection is important related to transferability at the end of the study because it affects the accuracy of the result. Purposive sampling is appropriate for this study because the participants needed to have certain criteria in order to understand and be able to answer the questions during the interviews. The purposive sampling involved meaningful selection of the participants in this study, which helped the process of the interviews.

Five main themes and sixteen subthemes were used, and each subtheme was incorporated under a main theme. The five main themes included time management, case specific and attachment, inter-professional working, role and scope, and experience and learning (Johnson, 2015).
Was there a theoretical /conceptual framework for the article? If so, what was the theory or conceptual model/framework and how did it relate to the study?
Yes, there was a theoretical framework for the study. A theory is a perspective, or point of view, also known as a paradigm. According to the study, the qualitative paradigm was the chosen methodology (Johnson, 2015). A phenomenon was created in the study to analyze the district nurses’ perceptions or meanings, attitudes, beliefs, feelings, and emotions about bereavement care.
How does sample selection differ in quantitative studies versus qualitative
The researchers used purposive sample but did not give any explanation as to why this choice sampling was made. It is essential to describe the sampling process in a research where this facilitates the reader to distinguish any bias in the whole sampling process. In studies using participants, the process of how to select, access, inform and retain research participants requires considerable thought. Sampling is a key issue, because it is
Paper (i) is a syntheses. A syntheses is a summary based on rigorous searches for evidence, explicit scientific reviews of the studies uncovered in the search, and systematic assembly of the evidence to provide a clear signal about the effects of the specific healthcare intervention. (Haynes, B., 2001).
This author chose a purposive sampling method that enabled the research to be focused on a specialized group. Participants had to have a common exposure to the population and was so specific and not random (Conte, 2014). Since the study was directly related to pediatric oncology nurses, so as to exclude extraneous variables, all participants were pediatric oncology nurses. Knowledge of the work these nurses does and knowledge of the impact of emotional and personal, though proficient, responses were equally important, to exclude input that would affect any of the researched data (Conte, 2014), In addition, the study involved a Nurse Practitioner who came with experience of 15 years as an oncology nurse and supervisor. Reflective Bracketing, a strategy to eliminate possible bias was utilized.
Method: The type of article would be an empirical study. The purpose of the study was to examine
The sample size was large enough since it brought together 2,545 nurses, from different nursing units. In addition, the selection of four different hospitals ensured that there was no bias and that any similarity in research findings could be considered as part of the study’s objectives (Brewer, 2006, p. 650).
What was the background for the research study? That is, what previous knowledge did the author describe as a foundation for the study in the “review of related literature”?
Each of 30 interviewers was asked to recruit 14 subjects (convenience sample of 7 males and 7 females aged between 18 and 80 years old)
Prepare a critical analysis of a qualitative study focusing on the problem statement, study purpose, research question, literature review, and theoretical framework. This can be one of the selected articles from your previous literature review or a new peer-reviewed article.
Nursing research can be defined as the knowledge that is developed and built on the foundation of scientific inquiries of clinical practices (Grove and Burns, 2013). As part of the United States National Institute of Health (NIH), the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) was established to promote wellness and to prevent diseases, to improve the overall quality of life across populations, to eliminate disparities, and finally to set the directions for end-of-life, palliative research. This essay will explore the history of the NINR in terms of its location, dates of operation, overall purpose, mission, and Strategic Goals. The essay will then outline the NINR 's current initiatives, describe the organization 's priorities in terms of funding. Training opportunities available through the organization will also be described. Finally, the experience attained by group members through doing the assignment will be explored and summarized.
vii. Does the article fit into an existing theoretical framework? In other words, what theory (ies) does the article address that was discussed
I interviewed Tracy, who is a registered nurse with Shands Homecare, before working there she worked at North Florida Hospital. She has been a nurse for about ten years. Along with the above questions I asked Tracy a few of my own, one of the questions I asked was if there was a significant experience dealing with death in her profession that impacted her more than others, and there was. She mentioned that she went to a patient's home one day, who had been her patient for quite some time, and she found them deceased. She said that part if that experience that really impacted her was that at the time she found the patient, the patient's son was getting home from school. Tracy said that is was a very tragic experience for her. I also asked Tracy
What are the main ideas and/or issues of the article as it relates to the chosen topic?
Qualitative Research- concept of valuable ideas that are supportive in planning the research regarding their own personal experiences.
I have been a registered nurse at UCLA for 18 months. One particular issue that has captured my attention is the utilization of palliative care in health care. Because nurses are generally at the bedside all the time, they have an important role to play in voicing the importance of its utilization and implementation in the patient’s care.
This article provides information about the generic qualitative research studies which is used in studying the health services. This approach rejects the use of single method or established methodologies. It is a significant controversial approach among qualitative researchers because of ill-defined and less-established structures.
