The supplier our group chose for our chemical mineral spirits 75 is CITGO. There are eight performance standards and I will be covering performance standards 3, Resource Efficiency and Pollution Prevention, and performance standard 4, Community Health, Safety, and Security. Through the evaluation of the performance standards to the findings about CITGO is how we will determine if CITGO is a suitable supplier for our chemical Performance 3 talks about how air, water, and land pollution can be enlarged by high activities in the economy and urbanization. Those events can also consume limited resources in a way that may threaten people and environment at the local, regional, and global level. This Performance standard main purpose and goal is to reduce pollution whenever and however possible to satisfy the objectives. There are three objectives of this standard and those are one, To avoid or minimize adverse impacts on human health and the environment by avoiding or minimizing pollutions from project activities, two To promote more sustainable use of resources, including energy and water” and three, “To reduce project-related GHG emissions.(EPH) Resource Efficiency In the performance standard the client “The CITGO Lemont Refinery has taken significant steps in improving its efficiency, environmental advances and production. Recent environmental enhancements include a new wet gas scrubber and selective catalytic reduction unit, which reduce atmospheric emissions” (CITGO
I chose this program as my research because it is related to my major, and I can use this knowledge to further my mastery of environmental engineering. Nowadays, many people have a responsibility to take care of the Mother Earth, and “green” activities must take action from now onwards because actions speak louder than words.
The group determined that the preferred cost of materials, labor, location, production capacity, quality and brand as the factors it considers important to the company’s success in Canada.
Chevron products Company, a Chevron U.S. A Inc. division, maker of the Delo(R) brand of technologically advanced heavy duty engine oils, lubricants and coolants, unveiled a new category of heavy duty motor oil designed to address the growth of severe duty applications in on-and off-highway markets. Quality heavy-duty engine oils must also disperse soot and control sludge in order to help guard against the loss of an engine’s life. Properly lubricating the inside of a heavy-duty engine requires more than just creating a protective film. Delo products have assisted in reducing operating costs and improving fuel efficiency. Switching to this product Delo 's fuel economy products, and a 4% fuel economy improvement compared to SAE 15W-40 oils. Actual results will vary depending upon vehicle type, load and other driving conditions [4].
In this assignment I will be writing a formal report that will explain a typical procurement process, I will outline a variety of methods of supplier reimbursement and contract relationships; I will also outline the pros and cons of each contract type. As well as this, I will explain a typical supplier selection process through the use of Carters 10 C’s and a typical selection process model.
B. Will the supplier be able to meet our cost, quality, and product performance requirements?
The three pillars are environmental, social and economically sustainability. However in this report, environmental sustainability will be brought to light, the two other pillars will be trivial. In order for environmental sustainability to be defined, general sustainability must be defined. Sustainability is the ability to continue a defined behaviour indefinitely (Thwink.org, 2015). For the environment, there are three aspects which must be sustained for, renewable resources, non-renewable resources and pollution. Therefore, environmental sustainability is the degree of pollution emission, renewable resource production and non-renewable resource consumption that can be continued indefinitely for future use. Sustainable Development Goal Twelve’s targets can be evaluated by their potential measurability, however, key terms in the target wording lack quantifiable definitions making measurement difficult. For example, target 12.2 refers to the “sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources” (emphasis added) (UN DESA, 2015). While sustainability conceptually encapsulates meeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of tomorrow, in practical application, quantifying any population’s need for natural resources is very difficult (GEOG 200, Sept 17, Slide 17/18). Though efficiency is easier to quantify – the fraction of useful work done out of total energy supplied – measuring the efficient use of natural resources is a
Comedian Robert Orben joked, “There is so much pollution in the air now that if it weren’t for our lungs there’d be no place to put it all.” As Homer Simpson famously said, this joke is “funny because it’s true.” The pollution of Earth has been going on for decades, but recently scientists have been pushing very hard for practices that do not harm our planet. In 2006, the first Environmental Performance Index (EPI) was published, ranking countries on how well they are protecting Earth with their policies and practices. Who doesn’t love a little competition? One would think America would love a competition, looking at their competitive market economy. But America is not faring well in this environmental competition.
Help to identify the several impacts on the sustainability and help to get relevant corrective actions
In July 2017, “Toronto City Council unanimously approved City’s long-term path to reduce city-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 80% by 2050”. A performance goal of 20% per capita GHG emissions reduction by 2035 from 2014 levels was put into effect, based on feasible energy saving opportunities at each facility. Initiatives used to achieve this goal include reducing energy consumption (electricity and natural gas) and increasing the use of renewable energy.
The author successfully incorporates many environmental initiatives and efforts into a comprehensive plan for moving forward. She embraces and encourages these efforts, but argues they are just placing more Band-Aids on a leaky pipe, rather than dealing with the problem at hand, they are just not big or powerful enough. Rather, Leonard asserts there must be a civic engagement part to bring the accountability and responsibility back to the government and corporations (175). Leonard makes a great point, but
Standards like this one mentioned are what help regulate what type of emissions and how much can be released into Earth’s atmosphere. This helps prevent nearby town folk from getting sick and the death toll to decrease.
“Up to 16,000 Canadians die each year because of high pollution levels and poor air quality (City Of Windsor 2016).” Air pollution is the world's largest health risk. Pollution and climate change is a major global issue. Canada is “the ninth largest emitter of greenhouse gas” that needs to enact a climate policy [1] (Mildenberger et al. 2016). Greenhouse gasses are emitted by Human activities such as energy industries, transportation, residential and commercial activities, manufacturing, construction, industrial processes, and agriculture (Ayşegül &
The Capstone Project that our team is assigned is Veolia and the impact of 111d and RGGI. The evaluation of Veolia indicates that there main significant aspect is air pollution. The air pollution is specific to CO2 and greenhouse gases. Air pollution is generated from the production of steam and electricity from the combustion of natural gas. The facility equipment is at 80% efficiency. Therefore, improvements to the operation for efficiency currently does not having any opportunities. The reduction to CO2 and greenhouse gases can only occur for reducing the production of steam and electricity or adding technology to capture and convert CO2 into usable products. In addition, the facility does produce greenhouse gases from the operation of mobile equipment which range from trucks and cars to other equipment required to maintain and operate the facility.
What is the environmental focus of this decade? How will the increased costs of energy, waste management, and pollution affect your ability to succeed in your career?
