Personal Narrative: Martin Luther King Jr.

My parents come from a small town in Michoacán, Mexico. Growing up, my first language was Spanish. There were situations where I would be embarrassed of my parents for not knowing how to speak English. People would give mean looks and give off a rude tone because of the fact they couldn't speak English. I was a shy person, so I didn't know how to defend my parents but those experiences shaped me into the person who is not embarrassed about having Mexican parents and helps them around with their English. I am a proud and lucky to be the daughter of Mexican parents. Aside from that, I had been an only child till I was eight years old. My life is a perfect example of fighting for what you believe in. Born as Michael Luther King Jr. in January 15, 1968, I lived in a time in history where racism and discrimination was at its uncontrollable peak. It was a difficult time for the colored population of America, which included me who lived in Atlanta, Georgia at the time. I’m well known as a civil rights activist; however, I was also a Baptist minister and a family man. My spouse, Coretta Scott King and I raised four children; Yolanda, Martin Luther King III, Dexter, and Bernice King, all of whom later went on to follow in my footsteps and became civil rights activists. I spent my whole life attempting to change a society in which racism and discrimination were encouraged, however, thanks to my hard work and dedication; the views of people have evolved to a more accepting outlook.

Epic heroes are commemorated as being someone who commits improbable feats. They aren’t superior, but they oblige to deeds they feel are right. Non-oblivious to the horrid racism going on around him growing up, Martin Luther King Jr. alleviated and dedicated most of his life to what he could change as an adult: segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. embodies the characteristics of an epic hero because he was competent of great deeds, he signified humility, and possessed supernatural help.

The Civil Rights Movement had several pros however there are cons to every situation. The suffering of people were cured by the medicine of the great personality that still stand as the role model of the world, Martin Luther King Jr. He cured the people with the speeches they delivered and the letters they wrote. The letters and speeches delivered during this movement had been very inspirational in which it made more people want to become a part of this immense movement. Martin Luther King Jr. was very inspirational but had different ways to handle things than other civil rights movement leaders. I am Indian. My entire family is Indian. I am the very first child to have been born outside of India. My parents’ generation were the first to marry into non-Indian families. So America is pretty new for us. However, there isn’t really anything special about us coming to this country. My aunt came for school. My father came for school. My mother came because of my father. They all came by plane comfortably, and never experienced an adventure while coming into the US. It was the most boring travel story EVER.

Many famous people were those who pushed through their life problems. They were determined to never be knocked down and to never quit . Hardships influence a person’s life by teaching them to always keep trying for their goals.

Also known as Martin Luther King Jr. In 1954, Martin Luther King Jr became a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Alabama. He was always passionate about his race and he civil rights. In 1957 he was elected president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, to provide new leadership for the burgeoning civil rights movement.

The experience that martin Luther king jr. had as a person changed him in many ways. It helped him realize the truth about how black and white people were the same and that he was in a society that was mostly based on the color and social class. His experiences helped him by realizing what he would do later in life, realize the discrimination of black people, and that he had to change how black people are treated.

Throughout my life, I have heard many people describe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the life he lived. Most people, if not all, would call him something along the lines of a hero or a peacemaker. Others may refer to his life as legendary or inspiring. While all of these words do accurately describe his life, I feel the word that best describes him and his life is caring.

A hero is a person that simply has strong defining qualities and stands for the greater good. They are idolized for their noble qualities and their courageous actions. A hero is someone we look for to help us aspire to grow greater and stronger. Usually a hero is someone who stood out from all the rest so much he was acknowledged for their differences.

When I was a sophomore, I woke up on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to lots of posts on Instagram of my friend in band. They would have “Rest in Peace, you will be missed dearly.” I thought it was a joke made by his friends to play with him, but soon enough I realized that it wasn’t a prank. My friend had died the previous night due to heart failure. We had parish honor band later that week, and the rehearsal was during his funeral. So I was not able to be in the honor band that year. I was really down after he had passed away. I was to the point to where I didn’t want to pay attention in class because I was still in shock that he was gone. It took a while to recuperate, but as time passed by I started to feel better. I still miss and think about

I’m going to be explaining the life of a man, Martin Luther King Jr. King was born in the year 1929 on January 15th. his father was a pastor. His mother was a schoolteacher. He had a sister and a brother. In Boston, he met a lady, Coretta Scott. They got married in 1953. King had two sons, and two daughters. One of his sons was a third generation.

Imagine living in a time where you couldn’t go anywhere without getting physically or mentally hurt, where you had to go to a different school and use a different bathroom as others just because you have a different color skin. This is what Martin Luther King Jr. and all blacks had to go though. Martin Luther King grew up in this world of hate, and he was going to be the one to stop the it.

The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. is written in chronological order from when King was born to when he was assassinated and after his assassination. This autobiography has both primary and secondary sources. Although the book is written in scholarly style it has some popular style to it when it comes to talking about some of Martin's personal moments such as the birth of his children.
