Personal Statement: Working With Children

I have had work experience in customer service jobs giving me skills, and the ability to work with different types of people in many situations. I pay close attention to detail and I am a very hard worker. I am friendly, punctual, and eager to learn new skills about early childhood development. I work well with others and have many ideas to improve the company. I am currently studying elementary education at Sierra College, and have taken courses pertaining to child and human development. I am also currently looking to obtain a CPR and first aid training certificate.

I am a qualified Childcare Practitioner with 12 years’ experience, who would love the opportunity to embark on a career as a Primary Teacher. I am currently employed in a local authority pre-five nursery class within a Primary School. I aspire to become a teacher as I feel it will offer me new challenges and a chance to further develop my love of teaching. I am a dedicated worker and continually strive to provide high standards. I also promote confidence, respect and compassion to ensure all members of the nursery and school are respected.

I believe that children are my first priority and I will do my best to nurture the inherent gifts that each one brings and shares with me. I believe what greatly makes a difference in a child’s life is a teacher who cares about each child and who teaches from the heart to touch or challenge every aspect of a child’s personality, cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and cultural during his or her journey with me. I also believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, gain knowledge, and be educated. I will encourage the child to learn and develop at his or her own level. One of the greatest pieces of advice that I have received is that if you do something that you love, you will never work a day in your life. It took me changing my major three times to find what I am truly passionate about. After I changed my major to child and family studies I enjoyed learning everyday and applying what I learned from class into the real world. The knowledge that I obtained through my classes assisted me through my experiences as a nanny, a student worker for the department of child and family studies at Tarleton, and lastly through my internship at Gladney Center for Adoption this past summer. I had thought about pursuing a MSW since I switched to child and family studies. The few social work classes I was enrolled in have been some of my favorite material. Ultimately my internship through Gladney and my passion for adoption led to my final decision to pursue a masters in social work.

I am currently a student at Western Michigan University studying Early Childhood Professional Education. I am looking into jobs for this upcoming fall semester, and if given the chance, the Children’s Place Learning Center would be a great opportunity to continue gaining experience for my field of study. I am writing to express my interest in a position as a daycare employee. I am experienced with children from ages 2 ½ to 12. My previous job at a daycare has given me the reassurance that working with children is my passion. I enjoy seeing children grow academically and personally.

I want to become a Child Life specialist in the future. Child life specialists are trained professionals with knowledge in helping children and their families overcome some of life’s challenging and stressful events. Child life specialist have knowledge in child development and family systems, child life specialists promote effective coping through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities(Child Life Council). They provide emotional and psychosocial support for children and families in a health care setting based on the individuals needs. Because they understand that a child’s wellbeing depends on the support of the family, child life specialists provide information, support and guidance to parents, siblings, and other family

What interested you in this career? I wanted to work with families to improve and better their situations. Child Abuse is a horrible thing with endless survivors. By working in with Child Protective Services, I hoped to have a positive impact to prevent children from being abused.

I am an enthusiastic, responsible and a studious individual with a desire in pursuing a future career in primary/childhood education. One could say that in order to work effectively and correctly with young children, you must have the capability to be patient. Young children process information variously than grownups. You might have to repeat and explain yourself a lot as it takes time for them to understand. A responsible adult must also have the ability to compromise with any disruptions that may develop. My experience working at Cutler Bay Middle School through a nonprofit AmeriCorps program called City Year, makes me a good fit for this position. During my year of service, I help run tutoring in the morning, I did behavioral mentoring to a set of 8 students during lunch and ran an after school club. In the classroom, I did specialized interventions for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in ESOL classes. I also helped run two successful events at Cutler Bay Middle school one was a literacy and math event and the other was a talent show. I like to work with young children and I have skills that make me suitable for this type of work. Also, I gained experience of working with children in different places. Nowadays, many children engage in different types of activates to have some kind of support and self-confidence for themselves. However, that will be good for their development and personality. I love working with the children

Building a strong, caring, and positive relationship with children is extremely important. This is when a child first learns how to form a trusting bond with an adult. The adult is usually a parent, grandparent, a care provider, or another key adult in a child’s life. A caring relationship with an adult is essential to a child’s social and emotional growth. Through a strong, trusting relationship with an adult, a child learns that the adult will protect them, nurture them, and respond to their needs. This also helps the child learn how to form healthy relationships with others. “How you approach children, what you notice about them, and how you respond to them will either boost or detract from their confidence and social competence”

First of all, I am thanking you for considering me to be apart of your childcare team. I have a wonderful and charming personality and energy for children. And most importantly, every child that I have personally been with no matter how sweet and naughty they are I can get them to be the best child. In the summer of my sophomore year I have already personally worked at a childcare as a teenage volunteer four to five days a week and I have always gotten great feedbacks from parents. I have also interned at an elementary school for two weeks as a teacher’s assistant for a first grade class after those two weeks I would still visit the children’s sometimes and all of them they loved. I am working at the lighthouse school since 2013. I'm passionate about providing quality early childhood care and education to our community and feel privileged to share the care to our children with all parents.

For the past ten years I have dedicated myself working with three’s and four year’s old as a Family Worker. Working with children’s inspiring me to further my education. At first all I wanted was a SA in Social Work. However, working with diverse family’s needs, and the economy draining the city I work in sparkle me to continue my educational goal. Currently I’m enroll al GCU to obtain my BA in Social Work with emphasis in Sociology in which I’m aiming to successfully complete it to then move on to my MA in Social Worker to become a counselor.
