The world is diverse with different religious views, trying to quench the thirst of human spirituality needs. Knowing a different faith system will help a person to have a broader worldview and update their cultural competency. This paper compares the worldviews of Christianity and Buddhism based on “Sire’s Seven Worldview Questions”, to describe spiritual healing in both systems. It also explains the important factors to be considered when care is delivered by providers of different faith. The lessons learned from the study is also explained.

The concept of postmodernism worldview focuses on the benefits that science brings. Postmodernism worldview theorists also recognize that while science brings many benefits, science alone cannot give meaning to life. What is a worldview? How does it influence our daily lives? A worldview is how we see reality. It influences the way we live our lives. It influences the way we interact with each other. A worldview is a belief system of who we are, why we are here, and what our destiny is.

When looking at the postmodern worldview, many people believe that science is unable to explain the meaning to life. The post-modernistic theory explains that the world consists of an energy that can be manipulated and controlled. As a result of this many scientists and health care workers are looking for a more holistic way of treating patients. In this way the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient are met. This leads to the patient being in complete harmony with their environment (Shelly & Miller, 2006). Spirituality is a delicate topic, and some may not be open to talking about their beliefs. Spirituality is generally understood to be an essential aspect of being human (Lyndo-Lam, 2012). Assessing the spiritual needs of patients is a key component in the nursing process. A compassionate and thoughtful nurse can make a patient feel more secure, making it easier for him to express his spirituality. The participation of both patient and health care provider is vital in promoting spiritual health. Over the years my worldview has evolved from as a by product of cultural influence, to one steeped in my belief of God. However, until I got married 4 years ago, I had never actively worked on developing my Christian theistic worldview. Brown, Phillips and Stonestreet (2008) described a persons’ worldview as the framework that guides our beliefs and viewpoints (p. 21). With this in mind, I have established 3 main tenants of my worldview, God is, the universe was and morality will be. These are the foundations for the way I live, move and express my being in this world.

Postmodernism can be very difficult to define. It has evolved from traditionalism and modernism.
