Dear, Mr. Tull We should have school start at a later time than usual. This will help many people stay awake during classes. Many people in my school are really tired because we stay up late and have to go to school early in the morning. It will be worst if we have to wake up and hour earlier and be more tired for school. This will certainly help grades and help people stay up. I don’t go to sleep until 12 and I’m always so tired when I go to school because I have to wake up really early. “But the new Sleep Foundation survey found that 35% of 10- to 12-year-olds get only seven or eight hours”(Park). Every teacher wants the students to have good grades even if they try their best to teach students who are sleeping can’t learn from the teacher. Sometimes grades goes down and it’s not the teacher’s fault. People would be able to pay more attention in class. Some people at school are very moody and because of that some people won’t pay attention to class and their grades will drop. I sometimes get really tired and can barely pay attention to the class. Some people think they can just get enough sleep during the weekend but that is wrong. “Sleep researchers have learned that when you regularly fail to get enough sleep, it takes more than just a few hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings for your body to recover”(Park). Over 87% of teenagers don’t get enough sleep and go to school tired. Teenagers have constant expectations to live up to, but with the amount of sleep they’re getting it can be seemingly impossible. The question has been brought up time and time again, should the school day start later? Because of the risks of not getting enough sleep, trying to keep up with their their busy schedules, and being in their adolescent years, having the school day start later would help teenagers around the world immensely.
It is a well known fact that teenagers in general need more sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation: “[teenage sleep] is as important as the air you breathe, the water you drink and the food you eat. It can even help you to eat better and manage stress of being a teen.” When schools start as early as 7 o’clock, it puts students health at risk. Most people want peace in life well did you know that sleeping is the most peaceful thing you can do? Just think about how many times you woke up for school and just wanted to sleep a little bit longer well, just imagine if you could sleep two hours longer. A lot of teens have busy schedules and never really have time to get a full 8 hours of sleep. Unfortunately some teens are exhausted of not getting enough sleep and can lead to disease,depression,anxiety,and obesity. Schools should start later because kids need to rest and to stay healthy.
School could be a pain, especially forcing yourself to wake up early in the morning just to go to school. We could at least wake up more later than early in the morning if we are going to school. For years kids like you complain about having to wake up early to go to school, but for many years they have studied and found out that later school starting times can benefit kids. It has been proven that kids who get at least nine hours of sleep perform better than those who get less that nine hours. As a high school student I do not get enough sleep through the night due to all of the homework and studying I have to do for the next day. I usually go to bed around 11:30 and have to get up at 7:00 in order to get to school on time. According to the National Sleep Foundation, American school age children are not getting enough sleep and it is a chronic health problem. I believe school should start later to make it easier for school age children to get enough rest so they can be healthy and productive.
Thomas Decker once said, “Sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” School. There’s a lot of things people can say about it. Mostly they’re arguments about school such as should school have trimester or semesters? Or maybe school should be year round rather than having a summer break. However, out of all those, one in particular caught my eye. Should school start later? Now me being a student myself, this was very enticing. Being able to sleep more and have a full night's rest would be delightful. I, myself, believe that school starting later would be beneficial for school and the kids going to school. It would have its pros and cons, but it would be an overall positive impact to everyone.
Almost every day high school students are waking up around six o’clock in the morning to get ready for school, some even earlier than that. Nearly every morning students are waking up without adequate sleep. If sleep is one of the most essential needs of the body in order to grow and develop, shouldn’t we be more aware of how much it affects students everyday performance? Yes school should start later because what justin found is that teens need at least about 5 hours of sleep a night. Think about their sport´s they play and the time it starts and end ¨Nearly 70 percent of teens are not getting enough sleep at all.¨ Every school should change its schedule and have a later dismissal and not a early dismissal. Parents will not have no time to take their kids to school because they will have to go to work at 9:00 a.m. and there kids go to school at 9:00 p.m.

Her philosophy is, “Sleep well, do well.” This is something that shouldn’t be taken to lightly. Sleep problems effect about 70 million Americans of all ages. Teens often have problems with daytime sleepiness. The old idea of early to bed, early to rise isn’t necessarily the best answer. Society is simply asking to much of teens (Sleep experts to teens). A combination of school, work, study and leisure, leaves very little time left for sleep. Being deprived of sleep definitely has an effect on how well students do in school and may be putting their health at risk. College students who stay up all night to study for a test or write a big paper that’s due often have no choice because of the pressures to do well and succeed, but at what price do they pay?
