The Design and Development of Simulation software to enable Tricia-Mart Boost its Sales By Cyril Ekhasomi Ipogah ST10020223254E Bsc (Hons) Computing Supervised by Mr, Ram Kallapiran East London College Centre Aim In this global recession era and competition among organisations on the increase, the aim of this project is to develop Market Simulation Software-a well established market research tool that will help Tricia-mart boost its sales, increase its market shares, improve its services and win over many customers. With the Simulation software, it is relatively easy to change the features or price point of a product and have the simulation software predict the market share that the product would attain in the …show more content…
Background: Recently, Tricia-Mart opened new branches to its existing ones. The management are keen on improving efficiency and services of the company. There are many ways in which this improvement can be done using simulation software: higher quality and efficiency from capital assets, better management of inventory, higher return on asset, this list is endless. But some of these improvements could be made without simulation, so the real question is ‘Why use simulation instead of another method such as real life experimentation?’ Simulation vs. Real Life Experimentation Costs: Experimenting in real life is costly. It’s not only the capital expenditure of hiring new staff or purchasing new equipment but also the cost of the ramifications of these decisions. For instance, if you fire 3-staff members and then find it difficult to cope with the workload, you may probably lose customers while the only cost with simulation is the software and the man hours to build it. Repeatability: In real life, its difficult repeat the exact circumstances again, so you only get one chance to collect the results and you can’t test different ideas under the exact same circumstances. So how do you know which idea is really the best. With simulation software, you can test the same system again and again with different inputs. Time: If you want to know whether hiring another three sales executives will reduce customer’s waiting lists
The Business simulation module helped me appreciate the value that data can give us. In this module I did an assignment which required me to build a simulation model. I was given information about a clinic which had a queuing problem. I had to build a simulation model which replicated the clinic and then, using the data given in the brief, had to add timings to the queues at reception and the different waiting rooms in the clinic. I used the Simul8 software to build this model. I had to then run the model and identify the bottleneck in the system. Once the bottleneck was identified, I had to build an alternative model and then run
-The effectiveness of simulation and use of manikins are directly related to the method of presentation of the materials. Studies have shown that the use of simulations have a 75% retention rate. The only method that allows for better retention was to teach the material to others.
3. The use and characteristics of simulation - assessment in a simulated environment should only be used where evidence in the workplace will not be demonstrated within an
During this round of the simulation DTL strategically leverage the cost and benefits of various
Simulation is a method of training that works especially well for individuals who need to make decisions in stressful situations or who operate equipment and cannot rely on their first experience by a live situation.
The outcome of the simulations was positive for me because I used the right tools at the right time in order to implement change. Effective communication played a vital role in simulations. Knowing how, when and what to communicate will help us to have a smooth change process. Additionally, implementing change quietly is very important for a change agent. In both simulations, I used private interviews and walk the talk as my main tool in the first weeks of the change process to aware people about the change. I interviewed almost everyone and that helped me to understand about people, what they want from the change process, who is their allies, what are their interests, and if they are resisting to change what is/are the reason(s) behind that. Change needs time and I did not rush the process. Waiting for the right time to take a decision and ask for others (consultants and internal) supports increased my credibility.
Rolls Royce Ltd. uses virtual experimentation and simulation on both their products and processes because it helps the company meet cost and time objectives when delivering
The SmartMart simulation offered us a way to learn about making critical decisions without any of the ramifications which would be felt by an actual business. Upon entering the simulation, we were asked to help make critical decisions in three different scenarios regarding the operating style of SmartMart, a relatively small chain of organic grocery stores. While making a series of decisions in each scenario, we had to consider how it would affect the company and what customers and shareholders would think of our choices. The first scenario asked us to decide whether or not SmartMart should continue operating on a smaller scale where customers are only able to purchase organic products and produce or switch to an expanded product offering which would allow customers to complete most of their shopping in one store like they are able to do in a big box store.

Even though; I was pleased with the results, it could had been much better. However, I believe this simulation has teach me a great value of how to succeed in the workforce. The reason why is because it taught me to make concise and careful decisions without jumping into conclusions. It is never a good idea to make reckless decisions, since it will always lead to problems. I also believe this simulation allow me to expand my thinking skills more in-depth. When I was looking over the performance summary, I had to think about the possibilities of what could happen in the future. I had to understand each of the elements that a company had to acquire. However, I realized when you are running a company, nothing will always be perfect. Sometimes in life, you need to take risks to achieve a set of goals. This is what the simulation for April has taught
The simulation is useful because it evaluates project performance using real criteria, such as the scope, schedule and
A simulation is defined as the imitative representation of one system by another (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). More specifically, the Human Resources Management Simulation is a simulation where students portray the role of a Human Resources Director of a growing company. Its objective is to gain insight into the Human Resources department, develop the basic knowledge of its principles and test new concepts before implementing them to solve and improve the department.
Simulation is a computer process that gives a probable NPV or IRR for a project. All factors that affect the project’s returns are input. The computer then randomly selects one observation from each category. All of the observations are combined and the NPV or IRR is calculated from those figures. Simulation gives a range of outcomes as well as the probability of the outcomes. It provides the total risk level of a project.
The issues inherent in the simulation are not textbook problems or questions in which answers are cut and dried and determined quickly.
Learning faster than our competitors definitely contributed to our general competitive advantageous standing in the industry. Our firm’s ability to overcome the learning curve applied not only to the simulation system itself, but also how to apply product changes, fine tuning marketing mix, and respond to competitor changes. Had we not adapted to changes quickly, we would have probably fallen to the bottom in terms of sales volume and team performance.
