Before even the interview with Trong Nguyen, I was heavily intrigued in the past about the processes of what counselors do to be able to provide best for their patients. Fortunately, I found out my dad that his younger brother had been in the psychology field as a social worker and counselor. “Few fields of study offer more career opportunities than does psychology” (Sternburg 3). There are a wide selection of specialties a person could go into with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. In graduate school, which is a must to attend, there is the option to explore the different specialities or to go into the desired specialty without any research of the others. There are also many options within a specific specialty. There is the option to be a teacher, to work for various organizations, be a speaker, to have your own practice, and many others. In the psychology field these options can all be combined. In fact it is expected of psychologists to do more activities involving their specialty than solely sit in an office and listen to patients. There are two specialities that I am interested in however, over the years, these specialties have become very similar. Clinical and counseling psychology have evolved to become one in the same. Someone who specializes in clinical psychology are more
I believe counseling is a collaborative partnership between client and counselor. Furthermore, this collaborative partnership is built from trust and acceptance of both client and counselor. I hope in conjunction with clients to understand the issues and concerns so to help them tap into their wisdom, creativity, and strengths to meet their current challenges. I believe in a comprehensive perspective through which clients can better comprehend themselves in the framework that our thinking about events can lead to emotional and behavioral upset. Moreover, counselors are to provide a safe environment for clients to explore their challenges and identify ways to move differently in overcoming these challenges.

I was comfortable with the person I interviewed, as it was my grandmother. I consider BT’s strengths to be a driven mindset as well as engaging in physical activity. A huge part to her success is indeed traveling to Arizona 5 months of the year. Instead of sitting in Washington all year round, watching the rain hit the windows, she instead is able to be in the sun. Weather has a huge effect on mood, the aging process, and physical activity. BT is a positive individual, who will always put her best efforts forth to achieve maximum health. BT is stubborn. You tell her she can’t and she will prove to you she can. A while back she had picked up a case of water at Costco. She picked up the case, her feet were planted, and she turned. This blew out

In psychology, a psychodynamic theory is a view that explains personality in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early 20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed a psychodynamic theory according to which personality consists of the id, the superego, and the ego. The id is responsible for a person’s instincts and pleasure seeking, the superego attempts to obey the rules of authority and society, and the ego mediates between the two to meet the demands of reality and what a person needs. Psychodynamic theories commonly hold that childhood experiences shape personality. Such theories are associated with psychoanalysis, a type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires. The aim of psychoanalysis therapy is to release represses emotions and experiences and to help the patient develop insight into his or her unconscious. Patients may suppress their vulnerabilities, motives, tensions, impulses, guilt, fantasies, and urges. Freud believed that individuals must unravel, experience, and understand their true, unconscious feelings to understand them. Classical psychoanalysis has become the least commonly practices form of psychodynamic therapy because of its intense demands on the patients’ time and emotions. It is, however, the oldest form of psychodynamic therapy. Psychoanalysis is not usually considered useful for patients suffering from severe depression or psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, people

One of the first classes I took during my freshman year of college was Anatomy and Physiology. This class introduced me to the different brain structures and functions. When I graduated from high school, I was admitted at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I enrolled in the School of Business. My major was Accounting. I did so to please my parents and what I thought would be the best fit. I was not very happy, and I must confess that I was bored to death. After two years of studying something that I did not like, I changed my focus to School of Social Work. I was taking elective classes in Social Work/Mental Health Counseling and realize that this field held my interest and really represented how I viewed myself and the world. I was out from College for 5 years. Working with the Department of Social Services and numerous nonprofit organizations. For the last 5 years I have been working as a Social Worker for Department of Social Service Child Protective Service Investigator. I actual love my job because it is customer (client) oriented and I got to practice my counseling skills indirectly and directly with my clients I encounter on an daily
