Public Services Clarification Analysis

I have always been interested in public service and how to help those in my community. In second grade, I became the representative for my class and it gave me a good appreciation for representing others. Later in Boy Scouts, I interviewed Penny Pink who had been appointed to the City Council and thought the position sounded really interesting. I am currently enrolled at Idaho State University for a Master’s degree in Public Administration and have come to believe that public service is essential for community growth and stability.

Public service have an important role of supporting different type of people that have their own beliefs and their own way of live their life for example Ethnic groups.

Paired with all the controversy over current immigration laws, renowned political scientist, Robert Putnam, released a study showing, “...the more diverse a community is, the less people care about and engage with that community. Diversity, in fact, seems to breed distrust and disengagement (Stengel).” Americans are so divided among racial, partisan, and economic bounds that the integrating forces of public service seem necessary. Perhaps instead of perceiving themselves as self-serving individuals, assuming a role in a mission much larger than themselves would humble and enlighten them (Daily Pennsylvania cite this correctly). National Service should become a country-wide rite of passage for young people. They should give contribute to the community as they transition to adulthood and become a functioning entity within it. The service should promote patriotism and an interest in the service as an enlightened nation (Stengel). Everyone should do something for their country, everyone should be proud to be an American. The freedoms and liberties that are hand-in-hand with living in America the beautiful are taken for granted and their roots forgotten. Magnificent sacrifices have been made for this country. The UK Public Services use various types of technology which enables them to do their jobs to the best of their ability. Without this technology, they wouldn’t be able to do any tasks to the high standard that they are able to do now. Technology can be extremely helpful and can save time when fully operational but when it fails it can become more of a hindrance than help. The main problem being, when technology fails we don’t normally have an alternative, or if we do it is time consuming and not a productive method. Technology is always developing which means that more training will be required. This is due to the fact that technology changes from one year to the next. In turn, technology must be easy to manage and understand.

People often behave differently when their anger has been evoked, which can be quite negative in particular circumstances. A quick decision made during a fit of rage can have an enduring impact on your life, and its' often not a good one.

In the chapter, the role of the public is discussed as an important attribute to the success of these agencies and administrators. “Public administration is perceived more often by citizens as another component of government, albeit generally the least respected component of government.” (Peters, 2001, pg. 41) There is an expectation of the people for administrators to have a role in politics despite the neutral stance that politicians, interest groups and history has told them to have. It is apparent that for the legitimacy of these agencies and administrators’ political involvement is necessary. The political involvement of bureaucratic administrators can boost their reputation with the public. Moreover, it can also impact the relationship that the people of society have with the government itself. The more involvement these agencies and administrators have within the political system directly correlates to the public activism in politics as well. Public policy is a system of laws that the government created for the citizens in order to maintain order. Public policy should be fair for all the citizens, however, on many occasions it is hard to accommodate for all races and social classes such as lower, middle, and upper class.

If I have learned anything about public service since I started at the Clinton School, is it that the definition of public service is fluid, and the professors want us to be continually rewriting our own version of its definition. Confusion urges us to continually rethink what we already (think we) know; ‘public service’ is not immune to this confusion. For the longest time, I didn’t feel the need to have an actual, concrete definition of public service. I was of the thought that I could adopt for my definition of public service the Supreme Court’s Justice Potter Stewart’s view of obscenity

It has been proposed that government should require two years of public service from every citizen because doing so promotes important civic virtues. While public service can promote civic virtues, mandating it is unconstitutional and degrades the virtue of service itself.

As a public service system, there is much more interactions going on between the organization and the public. It is more complicated than sell-and-buy relationship in the market of private companies. A public organization is more associated with obligation when delivering service and goods. Not saying that the private organizations has no responsibility to the customers, however, in addition to everything between sellers and buyer, it is also our liability to provide what the citizens demand for since they’ve offered their trust and tax dollars.

Governments every were are seeking new ways of reinventing their personnel systems to meet rising challenges in the way public service is delivered ,this need has given birth to a set of contemporary systems and these new systems are impacting the traditional civil service system and the way public services are delivered. The aim of these changes is to; Reduce the role of government and the number of public employees by using alternative organizations or mechanisms for providing public services and to increase the flexibility of employment relationships for the public employee that remain . Although these alternatives are not new, they are however becoming common and these new alternatives are taking over the traditional public system of the

Second, to apply a public service value that is equity, public administrators must delivery services to all citizens without exception, such as based on their gender, age, culture, educational background, and disability status, etc. In this sense, the equity means also to fulfil human rights and civil rights practice from the government to their citizens. Public services most of the times are the main business from the government, albeit private sectors are nowadays also play in same area to deliver public services. It is because the government cannot provide some services. Bureaucrats and private sectors have obligation to provide services in all sectors and levels. They cannot treat differently the public that already fulfil their obligation,

Public service is the passion of an individual or a community to contribute positive work with the goal of developing a sustainable and meaningful service.

In this analysis we will review a case titled “The Dilemma at the Public Service Department.” We will be discussing different issues, amongst them are: opinions on the honesty, malfeasance, misfeasance, nonfeasance, accountability, competence, and why these particular responsibilities are identified. We will also discuss certain trade-offs made by the commissioner’s loyalty to the department as well as the governor, and public interest. We will also be discussing three barriers when it comes to deciding how the governor will be approached, along with the basic elements that are recommended in strategic management planning.
