All throughout the world, populous cities such as New York City and Shanghai, inhabit crowded streets that are overflowing with people; these multifarious cities are examples of sites of encounters. In the middle ages, a valid example is the city Quanzhou, China. Quanzhou, being a site of encounter enjoyed a plentiful of trade, though they were forced to issue more laws and protection to ensure safety within. Trading with foreign countries created cultural diffusion within this city along with a diverse society. By being a site of encouter, the city of Quanzhou’s political and cultural worlds were the most impacted.

According to Marco Polo’s book, The Travels of Marco Polo, Quanzhou, a charming and quiet country had a great abundance of supplies for life’s necessities. (Doc A) This is significant because it vividly describes the daily life of Quanzhou, where citizens enjoyed a peaceful and quiet life; where a main reason that Quanzhou has such an abundance of necessities is due to all of the goods brought into the port. This supports that the cultural world was most affected by Quanzhou as a site of encounter because the citizens of Quanzhou were able to live a peaceful life, not having to worry about a lack of food or water etc. In his book, The Travels of Marco Polo, Marco Polo said that throughout Quanzhou, there was only one language and one kind of writing used but due to all of the foreign trade, there were many local differences of dialect. (Doc A) This is important because being a site of encounter exposed Quanzhou to many foreign countries in which the foreigners settled into the Quanzhou and spoke their own language; which created a language variety in this city. With such a variety of language located in this city, many native Chinese were able to learn the foreign languages where if they ever left China, they are able to communicate. In addition, knowing all these languages expanded the average Chinese
While under the rule of the Emperor Qianlong, China’s foreign policy and trade was beginning to unfold and open up to Europe. Qianlong, however, still maintained a strict and regulated administration of all foreign trade and foreign ability to exist within China. “ It is true that Europeans, in the service of the dynasty, have been permitted to live at Peking, but they are compelled to adopt Chinese dress, they are strictly confined to their own precincts and are never permitted to return home.” All outside interactions with China could only be permitted if ‘in the
After the Civil War, legislation was passed by Congress starting the reconstruction of the South. This reconstruction started in 1867 under the Reconstruction Act and ended in 1877 as part of the Compromise of 1877. Many people believed that a New South would form due to this reconstruction. This New South can be defined as a South that has completely abandoned all roots and traces of their past use of slavery and Confederate ideas. But, by 1900, the term “New South” did not become a reality, due to the continuation of an agricultural based economic system, the presence of blatant and widespread racism, and political views that greatly resembled pre-Civil war political views..
Have you ever heard of Valley Forge? Well , through the horrific events of Valley Forge , would you rather quit or stay? The Continental Army, has had several successes such as, Trenton and Princeton. They have gone through struggles depending on the length of their enlistment. Most were enlisted for 9 months. If I was a soldier I would have quit because I would not want to die from a illness, have poor food, lodging , and weather, and I would not want to suffer from the smoke in my hut.
Image being at Valley forge, you walk through the snow and leave trails of blood while others are getting sick behind you would you want to re-enlist? In December 1777 in Valley Forge the US battled against the british and they suffered alot of pain.
When Manchester first built its big mechanized cotton machine, it became the leading textile manufacturing city in the whole world. Much of its population in 1850s was made up with the working class and immigrants from parts of Britain and even Europe. In 1851, it was granted a royal charter after Queen Victoria's visit. The Reform Bill granted Manchester representation in parliament and middle-classmen the right to vote. All this was due to the exponential growth of Manchester during the Industrial Revolution. According to the Encarta World English Dictionary, Industrial Revolution was the period when U.K. went through social and economic changes that involved widespread adoption of industrial methods of production. Contrary to an average American's belief on how Americans actually came to be, they did not do it completely on their own or the perfect American way. In fact, it all started around the seven years war when Great Britain beat France in the war for world empire. By doing this they also opened the lands west of the Appalachian Mountain for settlement. In order to win this war the british had to rack up a great amount of debt and mortality. They were able to do all of this without the slightest of help from the colonies and afterwards most british people were unhappy with colonists because of their lack of sympathy and support. The colonists simply stopped focusing on Great Britain in general and more on expanding their own territory to the newly opened lands. Almost everyone in the colonies now thought themselves as no longer British and started creating their own American identity.
In 1939 the world was plunged into World War II because of the Munich Agreement. The Munich Agreement was an agreement regarding the Sudetenland Crisis between the major powers of Europe after a conference held in Munich in Germany in 1938. The Sudetenland was an important region of Czechoslovakia. The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty created as a result of six months of negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, which put an official end to World War I between the Allies and Central Powers. The Munich Agreement caused many disagreements between European countries. Collective security was a more effective response to aggression than appeasement because more European countries disagreed than agreed

China created an empire extremely similar to the Roman empire discussed in Chapter 5. The only difference being, the Chinese empire was put together using several large armies, which forced their way into new territories. The Qin and Han rulers in China founded this empire. During 221 BCE the state of Qin helped unify China by defeating a main rival of the empire. After this, the king of Qin eventually began to rule all of China, being know as the "first emperor." To help all the states to become more unified he asked for all of the citizens to move into the capital, which created a bigger empire for him to rule. To make sure there wasn't any resistance from the citizens, he ordered officials to go out and retrieve them. Although Qin wanted
It is a natural tendency for people to assume that they are smarter than people that are younger than they are. It is widely thought that with age, comes more knowledge, and a better understanding of the world. However, this thinking can't be used as a broad statement for entire generations of people. While there certainly are older people that are much wiser than younger people, this fact doesn't mean that younger generations as a whole are dumb. With the knowledge and discoveries made by previous generations at the disposal of younger generation's, the young people of today are smarter than ever.
Even though Shi Huangdi made some improvements such as creating a writing system and protected China, he made China worse because he killed many people and destroyed historical records. For example, during the Qin dynasty he created one writing system. This evidence shows that he improved China by allowing for easy communication throughout the country. To add on, he built the Great Wall of China by connecting other walls in the north. This means that China will be protected from any invaders that attack from the north of China. This also made communication during trade easier. In document 4, Shi Huangdi ordered that all writing and teachings of Confucius to be burned and to execute anyone who opposed his rule. This shows that he made China

From 1570 to 1750, silver was mainly mined in Spanish colonial America and Japan. They traded their silver and gold for Chinese luxuries and about 30% of all the silver exported by the Spanish Americas ended up in China. Having required that all taxes and trade fees be paid in silver, China’s economy was soon backed by silver. Though it may seem like this only affected China, this caused a great impact on the whole world both socially and economically because, like it said in document 1, even the poorest men had silver in China, but in Spain, prices of precious Asian luxuries increased, and, due to the widespread distribution of silver, the value of silver decreased (document 2), which harmed Spain’s economy greatly. This also affected Britain
