Reasons For Banning The Book To Kill A Mockingbird

The novel “To Kill a MockingBird“ is Challenged in the Waukegan, IL School District (1984) because the novel uses the word "nigger”. In 1961, “To Kill a Mockingbird” won the Pulitzer Prize, but More than 14 school districts have banned this book for the use of bad language and racism.Protecting people from the reality is not the correct thing to do .People have the right to read banned books! They shall not be restricted from them.

Some parents want this book banned because they are afraid that the book could influence bullies against African American children in today’s society. However, in any history book or historical fiction about the pre-Civil War times in the United States, the same facts or even worse are shown.

Over the year's music, books, movies and television shows have gotten graphic. A lot of entertainment as explicit content. Whether that means sexual activities, physical violence, inappropriate language or lyrical content. Due to the increase libraries, radio stations, television shows and movies are censored, not shown or available to read/watch. Ironically, the biggest reason for that is this simple novel paints the best people in the American South as hypocrites. Of course, people were not okay with that and continue to be adamant about it. However, that’s not the reason people utilize when they complain, usually it’s something to do with racial slurs, which is an even bigger hypocrisy in itself.
