Recycling Educating the community is a vital part of making the recycling program more successful, reduce landfill waste, preserves limited resources and encourage community involvement. Recycling is the process of converting waste material into reusable objects. Actually, recycling and using recycled materials has proven to be advantages to the landfill; it conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and it helps create more well paid jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries.

When you think of recycling the first thing that comes to mind is newspaper, aluminum cans, steel and cardboard. There are many kinds of materials to recycle like glass, paper, metal, plastic, tires, textiles, lumber, cars and car batteries. Biodegradable waste such as food or garden are also recyclable materials. In the electronic waste you can extract copper, silver, iron, silicon, nickel and gold. There is very cheap labor involved in disassembling televisions, cell phones and monitor’s here in the United States. Materials can be taken to a drop-off collection center, buy back center, or curbside collection. Curb side collection entails a special truck; each resident has different color of bins for different materials. You need people to wash and sort the recycled items. Curb side requires little to no public education. Now curb side post collection, where each material is cleaned before collection. This operation requires a lot more public education and additional operating cost is required for each separate material. Buy-back centers, buy back cleaned recycled material, where this is an incentive to the consumer. The buy-back center, can offer cleaned material to the industry with the goal of making money, but the government is almost always needing to subsidize.
