Reflection On A Mock Interview At Roanoke Valley Early College

I am currently enrolled in ELED 4803 Methods of Instruction with Dr. Morrison. One of our activities for class was a mock interview with Dr. Stout. We were told at the beginning of the course that he would be coming sometime to participate in the interview process with us. Dr. Stout came in on Monday August 24th 2015. We were given instruction ahead of time to dress professionally and be prepared for at least one question directly from Dr. Stout. He would direct a question to each individual and the entire class would be able to hear his response and feedback, allowing us all to learn from each question.

Find examples of behavioral based interview questions (these will usually start by asking "Tell me about a time," or "Give an example of." Make sure that the questions you find ask the respondent to present a skill or trait by describing an incident or behavior. Post two behavioral questions for your first post. After that, respond to at least two posts by a classmate, and then try to comment on the responses other students have given.

As a group, come up with 5-10 questions to ask each person you intend to interview make sure that the questions are relatable and germane.

It was a great opportunity for me to pull out information from what I learned in class and put it in practice. This helped me understand much more about what is going on under the recruiting process. I was really surprised to know that numerous elements such as employment laws are taken into account while preparing and conducting the recruiting interview. Knowing all this information about recruiting is like preparing my mind to what I will encounter in the future as a job candidate. Kim Millam was my direct supervisor for my first five years at Lakeland. It is not a secret that Kim has dedicated well over 30 years of service to Lakeland Community College. I have only known her for a brief six years, but I have come to realize how much she is dedicated to the mission of Lakeland’s students, faculty and staff.

Many individuals have stressed out over job interviews and their resumes. I think that everyone has including me. It is very vital to have a quality resume if you want to get a good job after graduation. Stressing out over getting a good job and having a good resume is something that everyone in this room can relate to, I’m sure. If not then you probably have a great skill that many wish they had. Throughout my college career I have gone to numerous resume building workshops and have had numerous resumes myself to perfect it. Throughout this semester this class has allowed me the privilege to get to know people who I would have never talked to on a personal level while also having the chance to advance my interviewing skills while getting to know them. Not only did these interviews and experiences display my strengths such as being able to adapt to certain situations but even more importantly it helped show me my weaknesses. After one interview and the next, I had to learn what role I had to play as within each interview I had to adapt to find my specific role as it varied from one to the next. Having the opportunity to interview a handful of people from the beginning of this semester to now has also taught me that the person you are interviewing can have a tremendous effect on if the interview goes successfully or not for reasons that I will elaborate on further in my paper. Lastly, one of the greatest lessons I learned about while interviewing people would be how to properly prepare to make sure the interview itself go as smoothly as possible. All of these factors have helped me grow in becoming a better interviewer and have helped me grow as a person.

During the mock social work interview process I have discovered a lot of interesting facts about the process, myself, and the differences between how the interviewer and the interviewee experience the interview. Being able to write a strong, distinct resume and cover letter is very important. I believe everyone has heard of the quote/phrase "First impression matters". A strong and distinct resume and cover letter is the very first impression you give a college or worksite. The college or worksite will look at your application and see the resume and cover letter. The resume and cover letter they see will either "make you or break you". It is important to create an honest and a personal brand to any application, because during the interview they might ask you to elaborate and provide more information regarding the stuff you've listed in your application. If you are unable to talk more in depth about the topic, they will assume you were not involved. A personal brand will set you apart from thousands and millions of other applicants fighting for the same position. You want the college or worksite to look at the cover letter/resume and want to accept you off the back. Learning how to speak in front of crowds, finding my strengths and weaknesses, reviewing how to write cover letters and resumes, plus gaining the knowledge of the way socail media works; these skills will prepare me not only in college and jobs but it will help prepare me for the rest of my

This lets the hiring company know what you are like briefly, before deciding whether to call you for an interview.

A cover letter is written and sent to show the employers that one is interested in a job that has been posted. Many employers post the job openings in local buildings, newspapers, and online sites. They generally ask for a resume and application materials along with the cover letter. Basically, a cover letter is a response to a job opportunity and a way to show the employer your desire for the job.

I did my mock interview on Thursday at 10:30 with Hallie Rathbun a career staff member at the career services center. I was very nervous because I have never done it before. I practiced answering the questions that I found on the website with my roommates and Karen Student United Association club adviser to help prepare me for the interview. I tried to relax as much as I could before the interview.
