Religion was involved with many things in a person’s life. It affects things like social status, relationships, the economy, culture, and politics. The complex ideas of religion and politics have shaped societies. The Puritans have set their goal to make their society and way of living connected to God in every way, shape, and form. In the seventeenth century this standard to keep God by your side has deeply affected politics and lawmaking, and has even caused some people to be continuously persecuted. From the strength of their religious beliefs stemmed these radical ideas, which deeply affected lives in the 17th century. Religion is the belief and worship of a higher power which is in control of the universe. The most popular religions in the world today are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. All four of these religions teach peace. However, followers do not always get along with each other peacefully. All of these religions have a moral code to live by and encourage devotion and prayer.

The free-laborers were not forced to America in ships, stripped of their culture, their language, and their freedom. The free-laborers were not enslaved. I do not agree with the shoemaker’s statement, but rather believe the Southern slaves were treated worse than Northern laborers. It may have been true that laborers in the North had harsh working conditions, but they did however, have their freedom. The laborers were not treated as if they were property. Slaves had never been treated as humans they were always beaten for ridiculous things. The first hand account of John Andrew Jackson an ex-slave shows how bad slaves really had it in his book The Experience of a Slave in South Carolina:

We 're lucky to be living in a time where everyone has freedom of speech and is treated equally, but in the past that was not the case for slaves. Slavery can be dated back in the 16th century and was practiced throughout North America by the 17th and 18th century. Essentially slavery was a popular societal act that was used to dehumanize people that were under the social status line. Many slaves endured a horrific life whether it was working in extreme labor or being abused physically and verbally. The memoirs of slaves such as Tom Elice shows us personal experiences of the slaves that were able to escape and start over successfully which gives us something to be hopeful for in the future.

Colonial New England ideologies were strictly religious in their puritan beliefs. Clergymen were highly educated and forced religious practices in the name of being righteous and holy. Conformity to religion was not considered a rational choice to those that were forced unto American soil and forced to live a way of life so different than their own. Enslaved Africans brought with them their own religious, marriage and funeral, and medicinal practices. These practices prompted radical puritans to fear these religious traditions that were so unlike their own, condemning blacks and the various ways they expressed hope in oppression. Throughout history, African Americans both free and enslaved were not treated equally nor permitted with the same rights as white men. African Americans were enslaved and not allowed to vote or hold public office. Since the 15th century, African Americans have been treated less than human, some even experienced brutal punished for justifiable mistakes. The use of African American slave labor was an enormous contribution to agriculture and labor. It became a part of southern state’s economy within America. Additionally, African Americans were forced or born into slavery where they endured harsh working conditions with zero pay and often times were punished by their masters. Even slaves that became emancipated or paid for their freedom were also treated differently than whites. Notably, blacks did not have the same privileges as whites and were forced to carry a “freedom card” wherever they went. Failing to do so would lead to severe consequences, such as being forced back into slavery. Once African Americans were considered free, they faced additional discriminations such as not being able to vote or serve as a figure in public office. Due to this and additional factors, African Americans were almost entirely incapable of defending themselves against whites. Since the start of the 17th century, African Americans, free and enslaved were punished for their skin color and were considered the lowest scale by not being allowed to the same opportunities and rights and white men.

Slavery is a stain in the history of the United States that will always be particularly remembered for the cruelty it exhibited. Up until 1865 slaves were imported in shiploads and treated as if they were merely cattle. On the farms slaves were given no mercy and had to work long, arduous days for nothing. Additionally they were often subject to cruel overseers who would beat and whip them on a regular basis. As brutal and destructive as the institution of slavery was, slaves were not defenseless victims. Through their families, and religion, as well as more direct forms of resistance, Africans-Americans resisted the debilitating effects of slavery and created a vital culture supportive of human dignity.

The way slaves were treated during our journey from Africa to America. They were treated very poor and bad. If people sit down and really read what happen to the people who were treated as slaves. Its so sad what people had to go through during slavery. They were force to leave their familes. Some had to go through a lot during slavery. They were force to leave their familes for a long time and probably never came back. They were kill and also force to do things the rich people wanted them to do.

Slavery is not fair and not right because it violates the rights of freedom of the slave. A lot of kinds of physical and economical and mental abuses of slaves that could not be justified any of the moral or religious things broadly admitted in the society might further accompany it. But, the slavery has many evil impacts on our whole society around the world as well. Further, slavery actually strikes at the root of the concept of men’s equality. Once the society stops trusting in normal concepts of equality and justice, the conflict for earning profit for oneself by the cost of others is certain to extend much more beyond to take benefits of only slaves. When discussing religion, many people have different perspectives about religion beliefs and how to approach it. Religion is grouped in different sections such as, religion and spirituality, religion and philosophy, and religion and politics. Religion has many different views from different cultures because everyone approaches it differently with different beliefs also. To make something religion, is to have some type of belief in God, but everyone’s belief is different depending on the culture someone is located in. In society back then and today, religion has no set essence of a definition because of the different aspects people group religion in. This paper will explain the different aspects of what people believe constitutes different types of religion.

History is often a series of processes. Very rarely do important changes happen out of the blue. These changes are brought about by little progressions, so the question becomes what is the first domino to fall. In some respects, the religions of the American colonists seem like a small thing, yet without religion it is unlikely that the New England Colonies would have developed into the nation we have today. Religious beliefs play huge role in shaping the paradigms of individuals and ultimately individuals shape nations.
