The movie Remember the Titans takes place at a newly integrated high school in Alexandria, Virginia circa 1971. When two schools integrate, their football teams, coaches included, do as well. Because of social differences driven by racial issues, the players do not agree with the change; consequently, the Titans suffer as a team. One of the coaches, Herman Boone, sees this as a major problem, so he takes the entire team out for a run at 3 a.m. to the nearby historic battlefield of Gettysburg. Coach Boone desperately wants the boys to get along, so he puts all of his efforts toward making the boys successfully play football as a team. When they arrive at Gettysburg, Coach Boone speaks about the men who fought the war of racism here; arguing …show more content…
He states, “Fifty thousand men died right here on this field, fightin’ the same fight that we’re still fightin’ amongst ourselves today.” (Eidenmuller) Undeniably, the fight was and is the fight of racism. The Titans know that they do not like each other because of their differences, but Coach Boone brings that to their attention using the logos of history. Fifty thousand men lost their lives fighting racism, and that was only one battle on one field. This helps the boys realize the significance of the problem they face. A war was unsuccessful in ending the negative feelings shared between those with different skin colors. Even now, the boys playing football struggle with the same problem as the boys who battled a few feet from where they stand. This emotional appeal relates a major obstacle in history to the team. Coach Boone proves to the team that they are not the only ones who fight with …show more content…
He says, “I don't care if you like each other or not. But you will respect each other. And maybe––I don't know––maybe we’ll learn to play this game like men.” (Eidenmuller) Coach Boone knows that even after saying everything he has so far, some of the boys will still dislike each other. However, he does request that they respect each other for the purpose of playing the game. The fact that the Titans have not been respecting each other makes Coach Boone imply that the boys are acting childish. Men shed their blood for them here at Gettysburg so they could be equals, yet they cannot get passed skin color to play football together. By insulting their maturity, Coach Boone successfully used pathos to make the team want to play as a
In Remember the Titans we witness Coach Boone fighting for civil rights, signifying the image of an outsider integrating into a foreign white team as their coach. Director Boaz Yakin, uses techniques to strengthen Coach Boone’s character where the initial hate and disrespect towards him succours the development of a meaningful arc. The disrespect and aggression is employed when a brick is thrown through his house window, threatening him with the derogatory coloured comments calling him “Coach Coon”. The pressure of quitting was not felt and heroically he encompasses the journey with Yakin emphasising Boones evocative discipline and determination forcing integration amongst the segregated football team. This technique is employed when we witness Coach Boone stepping up, pushing equality for the players in a determined strike to stop racial abuse for good. His actions initiate the forced building of friendship and acceptance when he forces both races to get to know and accept each other at the camp. Yakin heightens the themes of overcoming racism when Boone rallies the troops together to support their team mate during a sad time. Instinctively, the implicit segregation is evoked further bringing unity to the team, Coach Boone emerges as a ‘hero’ to both the coloured and white community.
In the 1970s, Americans and African Americans conjoined to the same school, T.C Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Football Coach Yoast was fired and replaced by Coach Herman Boone. Tension rises as white players didn’t want to be coached by a black person. The football team ended up going to training camp in Westbury, Pennsylvania. At first they hated each other, but Coach Boone made them have respect for one another and get to know each other. By the end of training camp, the team grew closer together. T.C Williams went on a undefeated season then won regional and state championship. The characters in Remember the Titans are Denzel Washington as Coach
The movie “We Are Marshall” is a movie about football. The movie isn’t just a normal football movie. It’s a movie that shows how a town and a college rebuilds after the tragedy that they went through. The town of Huntington, West Virginia and Marshall University went through the tragedy of a plane crash that killed seventy-five people, including football players, coaches, fans, boosters, mothers, fathers, doctors, lawyers and even governors. From this experience people had a choice to rebuild or continue to mourn their loved ones. Nate Ruffin, Donald Dedmon and Coach Jack Lengyel chose to rebuild through ways of leadership, optimism and morals.

The team was ready to come back home after all the hard practices at camp. The town still didn't accept the fact that these two races were going to play on the same team. The parents of some of the players didn't like it, and the town didn't like it. On top of that, Coach Boone had to win every game. If
In the movie Remember the Titans Coach Boone gives a speech on the battle ground of Gettysburg. Coach Boone was hired and made head coach over the nominated Hall of Fame Coach Yoast. Racial tensions were building between team members because their school, T.C. Williams became integrated. His team of football players had a problem with open prejudice and hostility between the black and white players. After a day of bad practice, Coach Boone took his team out for a run in the middle of the night through the forest to deal with the issue. When the players were finally given a chance to breathe they realized that they were at the Civil War battle ground of Gettysburg. He utilizes his strong demeanor and gives a speech

Remember The Titans was a movie that was set in a very hostile time in our country. We were in the middle of what I like to call a civil war. Although there were no battles or gunfights our country was torn in half. There was an issue dealing with race in the United States. The movie, Remember the Titans is based on actual events that occurred in the year 1971. Mainly on the integration of a school called TC Williams High School. When the school was integrated the old football coach, Coach Yoast, was let go and a black coach Herman Boone was hired on. The main plot of this movie is regarding the coaching change in the school and the 1971 football season the TC Williams Titans have.
In the movie Remember the Titans, the plot shows clear examples of race and ethnicity discrimination and Sexual orientation discrimination. One of the first scenes that show the issue of race and ethnicity discrimination is when the coach (Coach Boon) house is being vandalized by the “white players” when they throw rocks at his house. It is evident that the players don’t want the Coach or his Family in the neighborhood due to the colour of their skin. Another example is When Julius walks into the room and is completely ignored by a group of White girls when he says Hi to them, the nature of the movie suggests that if Julius has been of Lighter Skin, the girls would have reacted differently to him by saying Hi back. An example of Sexual Orientation discrimination in the movie is when they refer to a male player as Sunshine as he is homosexual, it is even more evident in the scene where the group of football players are uncomfortable around the character Ronnie as he is homosexual. The behaviours shown in the movie are learnt behaviours, the discrimination shown in the movie shows that white characters are acting on their judgment against the black characters with no substance behind their behaviours, and no real reason for them to be acting that way. It is clear that Discrimination is a
Remember The Titans is a great football movie, and an even better civil rights movie. The movie shows how TC Williams handled desegregation and how the football team brought the community together. When the white players and black players came together for the first time, they did not get along. Coach Herman Boone took the team to a camp, and the players started to get along. When the players went back to school, they experienced the racism all over again. Eventually, the team helped the school and community get over the desegregation.
Racism, prejudice, compassion and love is what you get when you break down Remember the Titans. The movie deals with a high school football team that's been integrated and the team has to learn to deal with each other. This is true not just for the players but the coaches as well. They have to overcome huge obstacles dealing with racism and prejudice within the team, school and town.
Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin, is an inspirational feature film that retells the true story of a high school football team that overcame racism to win the football championship. Set in Virginia during the forced integration of high school districts in the American south, the film explores the idea of racism, friendship and communication in sports through the use of camera shots and angles, props, body language and juxtaposition. Yakin suggests that racist attitudes are the product of ignorance, but can be overcome by communication and friendship through the representation of Gary’s girlfriend, Emma’s change of attitude toward Julius. Yakin’s representation of Coach Boone
This pursuit of an undefeated season itself is symbolic of a message that success can be achieved through racial integration. Once again the driving factors behind the success of the team is the relationship we see between Julius and Gary. By constantly having this foundation to fall back on in times of difficulty the overall team comradery stays well completely in tact. The audience is able to see how Julius and Gary conduct themselves when they call team meetings where they are the sole ones talking about overcoming their difficulties. This is yet another straight forward attempt by the film to create these two individuals as signs of the racial integration and progressive
Most people don’t realize that the media play up the stereotypes and gender roles that are out there. We don’t realize that the movies and television shows we watch feed into the stereotypes and gender roles that we believe in. Remember the Titans, directed by Boaz Yakin, tells the story about a high school football coach, Herman Boone, attempting to integrate T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria in 1971. Boone coming to T.C. Williams High School really upset many parents and students. When the parents of the football players found out he was going to be helping the head coach, Bill Yoast, many were fuming with anger. Why? Because he is African-American. Parents did not want their children playing African-American children in sports or sitting next to them in classrooms. This movie is based on a true story and the film challenges everything we claim we know about discrimination and racism in school.
For the Titans, this testing stage begins with the team’s arrival at Gettysburg College. Marked by fights between the informal leaders, Julius, and Gerry, Petey blaming his blockers for his own errors, as well as the formation of groups, Coach
