Proposal of market research plan for “Candy Crush”
A) Background Information
1. Product Introduction “Candy Crush” is a popular smartphone application launch by King.com on 15th November. It was original an application launch on social platform, Facebook. It is a puzzle game which requires you create rows or columns with three candies of the same color to remove them. Removing 4-5 same color candies at the same time can create special candies with different functions. Combine the special sweets to create spectacular effects that crush even more candy.
Players will be given a variety of puzzling objectives as they work their way through the levels available at launch, slowly thinking about their next move and how it’s going

The first one is the company website, King.com. As there are some researches already done by the company itself which is useful to this research and the data was uploaded on the website, so a lot of useful information should be found on it.
The second one is the research done by several mobile app research teams such as Xyologic that do research on smartphone application download rate. The data collected from these two sources is valuable to the research because it is used to access the acceptance of Candy Crush as the numbers show the popularity of the product.
2. Primary Research For doing primary research, only survey will be used. However, the questionnaires will be distributed through two channels, online questionnaire and printed questionnaire. The target respondents will be the people owning a smartphone or tablets who in different age group in both genders. Facebook is an important platform for us to distribute the questionnaire, setting up event, inviting people to do the survey is very effective and efficient. However, it is hard to reach the people who do not have a Facebook account or we do not know their accounts. Therefore, the printed version is necessarily needed. We can distribute the questionnaire to our schoolmates, family, teachers and so on as long as they are within our target requirements.

The philosophical justification for survey research is cost containment with a large volume of research. It is also one of the most efficient and quick methods to gather large amounts of information. Data analysis can be completed in a short period of time and generalization is better, particularly when the representative sample is of a population. It also helps elimination of bias in result interpretation as subjects have the ability to remain anonymous.

The population is undergraduate students of UM and we eliminated the unsuitable sample based on the information of questionnaires (exclude the outliers, blank questionnaire, context is contradictory and so on). Then we selected 30 questionnaires per college year which year 1 to year 4 (30*4=120) from all the completed questionnaires. We used convenience sampling method to distribute the online questionnaires openly. And we received the completed questionnaires online which are from google form.

No other research method can provide this broad capability, which ensures a more accurate sample to gather targeted results in which to draw conclusions and make important decisions. Data collection is much easier with surveys which tend to use easy to read data sources that can be compiled and analyzed as needed for market research needs. Again, the anonymity of surveys allows respondents to answer with more candid and valid answers. To get the most accurate data, one needs respondents to be as open and honest as possible with their answers.

In primary data collection, you collect the data yourself using methods such as interviews and questionnaires. The key point here is that the data you collect is unique to you and your research and, until you publish, no one else has access to it.
