It can even happen in places people should be safe, ie hospitals, residential/ nursing homes, schools, daycare/ nurseries, centres etc. I researched two cases reported for abuse. The Winterbourne case which was nationally reported, and a local abuse case of East Sussex (Child G), the Winterbourne case was more of a physical an emotional abuse, whilst that Child Gs case was of sexual abuse of a child under 16 and abduction. The Winterbourne case was reported nationally because it was such a disgusting mistreatment of vulnerable people, 11 members of staff were caught on cctv after visitors and patients complained about mistreatments. The evidence that was captured showed physical abuse such as, slapping, poking eyes, pulling hair, even as unbelievable as trapping them under chairs, and soaking residents in freezing cold water. It also showed emotional and verbal abuse in the form of name calling. This was an inhumane mistreatment of vulnerable individuals, the effective and humane delivery of assessments and treatments was not provided. The report which is published finds that Castlebeck Care Ltd (Teesdale) was not compliant with 10 of the essential standards which the law requires providers must meet. CQC’s findings can be found below. The managers did not ensure that major incidents were reported to the Care Quality Commission as required. Planning and delivery of care did not meet people 's individual needs. They did not have robust systems to assess and

‘If I suspect abuse through noticing a sign of physical abuse or change in the behaviour of an individual, I will make sure that I ask the individual what has happened telling the individual the changes that I have noticed. If it is in my place of work and the name of the person that abused the individual is known, whether staff or another service user, I must also record and report this. I will listen to the individual carefully; it is up to them to tell me, I would not ask them any questions about this as this is not part of my job role and would stay calm.I will make sure that I record what the individual tells me using the individual’s own words. I will make sure that I reassure the individual and explain that their safety is the most important and that it is my duty of care to tell the manager. I will make sure that I let my manager know what has happened immediately and pass
Emotional/Psychological abuse relates to any action that damages an individual’s mental well-being and development, causing them emotional distress, e.g. verbal abuse, including badgering, coercing, provoking or frightening actions or making someone undertake or witness acts which are personally distasteful
This essay will describe the models of abuse and compare them; there has been some controversy over these and this will be lightly discussed.
“Verbal abuse is the excessive use of language to undermine someone 's dignity and security through insults or humiliation, in a sudden or repeated manner” (Verbal Abuse). Victims of verbal abuse can be affected psychologically; this can lead to stress, depression, lack of motivation, and lack of concentration (Verbal Abuse). The World Health Organization defines violence as “the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation” (Rutherford, Zwi, Grove, & Butchart, 2007).
Domestic abuse is someone having power and control over another person. You do not have to be physically hit to be a victim of domestic abuse. Cases can include economic abuse, stopping someone from having access to money or giving them a limited amount to spend. It can be intimidation, by someone using a certain looks, actions or gestures to warn someone to shut up or do as they are told. Emotional abuse is putting someone down, humiliating them or calling them names. Being told not to see or spend time with family or friends is called isolation abuse, and finally using the children to pass on messages or making people feel guilty about what kind of parent they are. These are all kinds of abuse and once it takes place the final straw is minimizing and blaming, this is where the perpetrator makes light of the situation or denies it occurring at all. If they do admit to it, they are likely to tell the victim they caused it to happen.
abuse describe as a behaviors in which an individual misuses, attacks, or injures another individual. emotional. Neglect is also a form of abuse.
Emotional abuse is called psychological abuse or mental abuse. Degradation in any form can be considered psychological abuse. Emotional abuse can include verbal abuse and is defined as any behavior that threatens, intimidates, undermines the victim’s self-worth or self-esteem or controls the victim’s freedom. Constant criticism, name-calling and making statements that damage the victim’s self esteem are also common verbal forms of emotional abuse. Women or men undergoing emotional abuse often suffer from depression, which puts them at increased risk for suicide, eating disorders and drug and alcohol abuse. Verbal abuse may include aggressive actions like name-calling, disrespect, criticism, and blaming. While oral communication is the most common form of verbal abuse it includes abusive communication in written form.
