Be sure your analysis is written in a scholarly voice and uses your scholarly writing skills. Intro Discussion 1 Week 3 Common Sense and Science Common sense is decision making that comes naturally from previous experiences. Beliefs and common sense work together when it comes to individuals having to make decisions in regards to political, religious, and health beliefs. When these ideas are heavily grounded it is extremely difficult to contradict original beliefs. This can become a challenge when patients have specific ideas about how “healthy” they are or what treatment is “best” for them. As health psychologists we are forced to expand their view of health and find enough evidence in the attempt to shift ideas that may be detrimental to their health. Belief perseverance is the act of resisting change in our ideas and beliefs once they have been created. When there is evidence that leads us to believe in something, it is very hard to shift away from that belief despite any contradictory information about our original views (Nisbitt & Ross, 1980). Belief perseverance interferes with critical
Scholarly peer review, also known as refereeing, is the process of subjecting an author’s scholarly manuscript to the scrutiny of others who are experts and working in the same field (Ware 2013).
Belief perseverance is defined by Meyers as "Persistence of one's initial conceptions, as when the basis for one's belief is discredited but an explanation of why the belief might be true survives." This phenomenon is readily observable and at many times throughout the film Prisoners of Silence. It can be observed in the man who discovered facilitated language, parents of autistic children, teachers, facilitators and even in the view of the film.
If in the final reflections you decide to quote or paraphrase other scholars, you MUST provide references
In their book They Say I Say, Gerald Graff, Cathy Birkenstein, and Russel Durst outline strategies writers can use to avoid common mistakes often seen in academic writing. The book thoroughly outlines the different components that make up academic writing, such as initially summarizing what others have said before, responding with original ideas, proving a purpose to the writing, and connecting the writing in a logical and eloquent manner.
A student at Walden University will write in a scholarly manner and follow the principles and guidelines for doing so. It is of importance for a student to obtain research material that supports their writing from credible sources. With the Walden University library, a student can ensure that they are using credible sources for research material, reviewed, by peers and other scholars in the field. Programs such as grammerly provide the students of Walden University with the additional resources to check grammar and punctuation. The combination of these sources enables the student to improve their writing skills and achieve a scholarly writing style.
When using scholarly tone in your writing, it is one of the writing styles for when research is being used. It is really good to attend this Scholarly Activity. I always think the nurse way to perform my daily basis. I always believe that I am professional so we can provide excellent service in m way. However, the patients and families can contribute materially to outcome improvements because of their specific knowledge of their illness and the experience of care. The best things of the value of patient and family voices can increase market share, reimbursement, reputation, and philanthropy. On the other hand, when you listen to patient and family voices, one can decrease error and waste and build a therapeutic relationship with them. It is such a fantastic experience
When it comes to research papers I found myself always struggling to get started especially with the introduction. This is sometimes most difficult because I always feel the need to want to make my introduction explosive. Starting off strong is what sets the tone for the rest of the paper. This can be challenging since some introductions can span over a page long depending on the length of the writing criteria. You made a great point with stating how the ability to articulate can allow for one to not only express but support their views with agreeing evidence. This is something that takes practice along with trying different strategies to help with being an effective scholarly
Throughout my life I have outworked everyone at my grade level being a late birthday. I have been the youngest in my grade since preschool and was behind because I was not as developed as all of the other students in my class. Starting in first grade I was not able to read like the other kids were so instead of being held back, I took extra classes with a tutor who taught me how to read just as well if not better than all of the kids in my grade. I have always loved sports and been very competitive, I started playing baseball when I was nine years old. Once again I was the youngest kid on my team all the way through my career. When I tried out for my first travel team I did not make it because I was nowhere near as good as the other boys who tried out.
When I first started my writing courses, I learned about the difference between scholarly articles and non-scholarly articles. Both Articles have the same information about Alcohol. The difference between the two articles shows if the article is real as well as which quotes are from other people that relates to the articles. The two articles that I will be using are from WebMD and Journal of American College Health. Both of the articles were about the differences of college students typical drinking and celebrating drinking. Typical drinking is when a person has no reason for drinking and celebrating drinking is when a person drinks for a special occasions. The two articles have many similar topics; however, the two articles have different

Conner and Norman, 1995 describe the health belief model as ‘the oldest and most widely used model in health psychology’. It originated in the 50’s and was developed further by Hochbaum, Rosenstock and Kegals throughout the 1980’s for health education programmes and to predict different health behaviours and responses to treatments. The four terms that are the basis for the HBM are perceived susceptibility, perceived barriers, perceived severity and perceived benefits. The behaviour of the individual depends on their belief that they are susceptible to a health problem, how serious they deem it to be, whether they think that treatment will benefit them and if there are barriers that may get in the way.
With all the information I obtained about scholarly writing, I plan to use it to numerous types of writing I will do in the future. I can use this knowledge I acquired on this subject for different types of writings at the scholarly level during my studies at the university and beyond, upcoming course assignments, discussion replies, spoken conversations on the subject and my dissertation process. I can give
As I come to the end of my first master’s course, it certainly does come with a price of perfection, and perfection I have not found yet. I feel overwhelmed with words and the usage of APA style. My professor Dr. Kris Lichtanski says that scholarly writing is a must when one enters the Psychology field. I have finally understood what scholarly writing is truly about. Every time I hear the words “scholarly writing”, I think of Aristotle and Socrates for some reason, These two famous men from the beginning of antiquity, have impacted our souls and minds with such great wisdom, such as education and medical teachings that one can only imagine and
