Traveling can be enjoyable and frightening at the same time. Being from Honduras, my family would travel back in forth from the U.S. to Honduras every summer. Being able to experience living in two different cultures was a good experience and allowed for a more understanding approach of different societies and how the identity of the people living in those Society’s is unique.

It exposed me to the fact that there is more to life than meets the eye. Accepting its complexity is almost as important as understanding what makes it complex. My visits to Poland have opened my one dimensional mindset, and allowed for more complicated reasoning. Travel provides for a greater examination of not only the culture of the place you visit but also of your self. Travel offers many different aspects that one would not necessarily find staying in a well known place. This could include trying new foods, learning about cultures, experiencing traditional music and dance, and countless others as well. Visiting other places encourages people to educate and learn more about it themselves. Also experiencing different cultures can lead to a stronger knowledge and a desiring of visiting more.

Traveling not only affords one with a break from everyday life, but with the opportunity to grow intellectually as a person. I am one of the lucky individuals who can say that they have visited every continent excluding Antarctica. Traveling often broadens my perspective of what humanity truly is, and of what responsibilities human beings have to their respective communities. Each travel destination played its respective roll in shaping my spiritual beliefs, and I can honestly say I would not be the person I am today without the experiences I have had in the different corners of the world. Though each destination offers its own adventure, no other place shifted my perception of not only myself, but humanity quite like Egypt.

It was the first day of my summer job as a counselor in training with the local recreation department and I was tasked with organizing and leading activities for the young campers. As I was putting on my green staff shirt and lanyard, I asked myself, “Why would these kids ever listen to me?” After all, I walked by the elementary school every day on my way to high school, and they were a rowdy bunch, arguing with each other and ignoring the adults in charge. Still, I tried to push these thoughts out of my head and walked up the hills towards the camp. When it comes to traveling, I have to say my favorite part about it is the ocean and being of the beach. When I'm there I always feel a sense of relaxation and calm. It even helps me clear my head when I need to write. I mean,

I am a camp counselor at a local college near my hometown. As a counselor, one of my responsibilities is aid and assist the teachers throughout their classroom lesson. One of the teachers, Rory, saw that I was really attentive to the children and thought that I was a dependable person who also got a task done, and done right. At the end of every week, the teacher’s job was to fill out an evaluation form. This form was to be seen by both supervisors and the co-directors of the program. Not only did Rory fill out the paper and give me high marks, also took the time to write and elaborate, thoughtful note on the back of the sheet.

For the first 10 years of my life, living in a small town in Kansas was all I knew. That was, until my father decided he was being called to join the military. Our first duty station in Japan was a complete turn-around from land-locked Kansas. We went from flowing fields of grain to beautiful, blue oceans. Through this, I was able to experience different culture and living-styles. I believe that should you have the opportunity to travel, you should jump at the chance. Whether it’s on a road trip across the country, or flying over the ocean, wherever you go, you are sure to find diversity among people. Travelling is important as it can remove the unintended prejudice that individuals carry out rashly. Sometimes, people unconsciously treat others differently solely based on their own beliefs. Since their judgement is based only on opinion, therefore it may be inaccurate to use when addressing the persons around them. However, exploring the world may lessen your tendency to be prejudice as you will gain detailed insights to the way others think, the way others see, and the way others live. Thus, this will allow you to not make foolhardy assumptions when being in contact with a society or community as you will be more knowledgeable to understand why they are the way they are. My father is a proud vintner of the United States Army who dictated twenty five years of his life severing our country. Growing up as a child, and not understand that life was so subjected to changes.
