Self-Identity As A Future Counselor

Within this paper, I will discuss my self-identity as a person and a future counselor. I have always viewed myself as an eclectic and accepting person. I welcome others of different backgrounds openly, and I am genuinely curious about their cultures and beliefs. I have always loved learning. I have always viewed myself as being a very independent, spiritual and giving person. My values are similar to most people in my family. I believe in working hard, being honest and being a humanitarian. I feel that although I grew up rather poor, I was always taken care of and my parents ensured I had everything I needed. As sad as it is to say, I feel that being a white female has helped me more then hindered me in life. Also, I feel that traveling is a wonderful way to help become a more well-rounded individual. I have always loved traveling and I feel that traveling to a new place and immersing yourself in the culture is a wonderful way to grow as an individual and become more in tune with who you are. I feel that culture is a forever-changing aspect of your personality. With each trip I take, I feel that I change a little bit for the better. Travel gives me a sense of serenity and it makes me feel better in touch with my own feelings. Next month there is a conference that teaches about suicide prevention and inmates within the Dept of Corrections. I plan on attending this conferences if I am able so that I can use them as a learning experience. Also, I am planning a small trip in January to Northern Illinois to one of the monasteries. I visited this monastery whenever I was 20 and I have always wanted to revisit it to better understand the way of
