Should Justin Ellsworth’s Parents have been given access to his email?
Every day, thousands and millions of people flood the world with e-mails. Most youngsters keep online journals and share photos online with friends and family. And each day, many of us die. What happens to the contents of a deceased’s laptops and e-mail accounts? Would a deceased want his or her family to read the e-mails? What would happen if a deceased stored work files on his or her computer that belonged to his or her employer? Could a deceased assign a representative to go through the computer and clean out any files the deceased didn’t want anyone to see? In general, private letters that are used for communication are seen as personal property. When one dies,

There has yet to be a definitive court ruling on the status of e-mail. The largest number of people being happy in this case would be the general public and judging from the overwhelming support for the parents the general public wanted Yahoo! to release the emails. The deontological consideration only takes into account what the “right” thing to do is. It is not black and white in this particular case. For obvious reasons, an email account should not be on public display when someone passes away. I do think that if someone specifies in a will or in some type of legal document their wishes for an email account, those should be followed through. Yahoo’s perspective however is cut and dry. There was a contract between Yahoo and Justin that stated when Justin passes away, the account will be deleted. Because the only legal document in this case was the agreement between Yahoo and Justin, I believe the “right” thing to do would be to terminate the
My opinion regarding the subject of this article is, parents need to pay more attention to what they’re kids are doing. What these two girls did could’ve been avoided, if their parents knew what they were looking up online. The victim was lucky to have survived the attack, and hopefully
If the office gets new computers the manager needs to make sure the old computers are destroyed in a manner that will not allow anyone to retrieve information from the
Dead?" AlterNet. In this article, Frankie Colmane looks into how dead bodies are treated in the United State even after Mitford's expose of the funeral industry was published. The article takes both a philosophical and scientific issue with the procedure of embalming sighting proven negative effects to human beings and the environment. Colmane shows that even though people are aware of the malfeasance and misappropriations of the funeral industry following pieces like Mitford's, very little has changed. Therefore problems that have been discussed in earlier works should not be forgotten. Rather they should be continually brought up until the issue is solved. During the 1800s, embalming became common practice because the dead family member would lie in state within the home for a period of days or weeks until it would be buried (Colmane 2010). The article shows the duplicity such as when "funeral directors were arguing forcefully against charges that their mediation between the living and the dead translated into social obstruction that barred the stricken from facing death with maturity, realism, and honest" (page 2). This article will be used to illustrate that things have not changed with funereal practices despite the publication of Mitford's essay.
The children after the traumatic massacre, probably would have to go through a very long healing process. A lot of the kids had the symptoms of PTSD which stands for post-traumatic stress disorder. Some kids never wanted to go back to school and others sometimes heard noises that triggered thoughts of the shooting. “But no one could erase those students’ memories.” A few of the students had siblings that had died, and they did not. “Many struggled to understand why their sisters or brothers had been taken away from them.” This shooting massacre didn't only affect the kids, it also affected America. A ton of the nation was in heartbreak after this event, they were traumatized. Many people were mourning for the 26 people who had lost their lives. Lots of people were scared of a “copycat” or someone that was inspired by Adam Lanza, to go and start another shooting spree. Many of the survivors also started showing symptoms of PTSD just like the kids. The parents had lost their kids, their family. Families have been broken because of what happened that day. They experienced something they never thought would happen to them. A lot of the parents at the school and even around the United States were scared for their school safety. A lot of parents wanted cameras, locks, and the kids to be protected. They wanted to drop their kid off at school and know that they will be able to see them
That tragic event put an enormous amount of responsibility on the school, the teachers and the principle. They were trying to help the students to call ICE and ask if their parents are released. Unfortunately, some parents were deported to their home country and others were released with GPS attached to them. It was a humiliating experience for the families.
I feel the media was senseless and unreasonable, wanted interviews with the parents and wanted the story and the feelings those parents were not able to recover or grieve for months. I saw and felt the pain in their faces and body language.
There were a lot of problems with this many people agreed... Nobody liked what was going on. Some people just didn’t know what was going on.so they sent their kids away thinking they were safe.
I do not think his parents or anyone else for that matter should have access to his email. There is a privacy act statement for a reason. The purpose of the act is protect the privacy and rights of all people using email. Although email has taken over as a major form of communication, I feel that Yahoo is doing the right thing in protecting Justin Ellsworth’s privacy.
Deontological ethics is an approach to ethics that judges the morality of an action based on the action's adherence to a rule or rules. It is similar to rule utilitarian ethics but with a few differences. In deontological ethics rules are followed no matter what. There is not exceptions to the rule, there is no questions as to whether or not the rule provides the greater good, the rule is there for a reason so no matter what it is followed to the letter no exceptions. With this in mind we should look at the question again. Should Justin Ellsworth's Parents have been given access to his email?
The public policy in this case is concerned with death disclosures in a real estate transaction. The seller must be completely honest about issues regarding the property that might adversely affect its value for sale. The seller must disclose material facts or material defects if the seller knew about the fact or defect that the buyer would no longer want the property or would not be willing to pay as much for it.
Even if you leave behind all your passwords for your internet accounts, most heirs will still be frustrated because they can still lack the power or authority for managing your online accounts once you’re
A Certain Kind of Death is an interesting and a watchable documentary; it explores how dead bodies that are unclaimed by relatives are handle. The bodies found were in different stages of decomposition. The coroner’s office is very dedicated to handling the deceased and their property. They try to locate their next of kin, and they hold on for about three to four month for the next of kin to come forward and make the funeral arrangement. The coroner’s investigators give detail report of the deceased. The public administration is responsible for finding out what the expense is going to be and they will decide if it is a case they will handle. In the video, we learned a little about each of the deceased background. From the background information, these deceased lived their lives as loners and are detached from society. The apartment of one of the deceased looks like a trash can, watching it was gross, I cannot imagine how the mover felt clearing the room. However, he was a very generous man, he donates to homeless shelter regularly, and I do not think the staff should be laughing at how he lived his life and calling him names (Badcock & Hadaegh, 2012).
In this day in age new technology such as the Internet has allowed a person to create and maintain relationships online through social media networks in ways that were never possible before (Egnoto, Sirianni, Ortega, Stefanone, 2014). It has allowed a person to digitally document his/her life through sources such as photos, videos, or personal blogs. With the incorporation of new technological advances it will result in change in both the emotional and legal aspects of the dying and mourning process so it is important for everyone to prepare for the inevitable change that will occur. This paper will point out the importance of why we will not only have to evolve emotionally to keep up with the change but also how important it is for federal and state authorities to set specific rights and guidelines of how to handle the digital footprint that is left behind after someone dies.
Deaths are emotional, physically, and mentally tiring. No one likes to get the text or call that a loved one or dear friend has passed unexpectedly. One of the most difficult steps is making the funeral arrangements, and that can be emotionally draining if a living will has not been written up. A big part in deciding about the funeral arrangements is getting the death certificate complete and the main objective, the person itself returned. All emotions are running together and you’re thinking why can’t this be over and let them be in peace? Well, the big remainder is the Coroner’s decision. Any unexpected or suspicious deaths are required by law to be handed over to the Coroners Court of State in New South Wales, Australia (Mackay, 2015, p.
Is it ok that parents snoop on their children? This is the question that Judith Woods ask in the article entitled “should parents spy on their children’s emails and texts? ”. The author is neutral as he explains two points of view and put stories for parents and their children. The first point of view is that some parents are with snooping on children and the second one is that some parents are against snooping on children. Despite that this article considered a good article but it contains a lot of mistakes as false assumptions, weak evidences more over logical fallacies that weakened the author argument.
