The federal minimum wage should be raised for the low-income workers, because it may reduce the gap between the rich and poor in our nation, it can help bring people up from below poverty lines, and will improve the economy. The federal minimum wage has been widely talked about, and continues to be a growing issue in the United States today. Many low-income workers have come together because they want equal pay. The gap between the rich and poor in the United States is constantly growing, due to the fact that minimum wage is low for the poor but not for the rich. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. There is no gray area in this situation. Because they say employment, rates will decrease. No, it will not here is why “Businesses will need to hiring to keep up with demand from the extra spending from low-income workers who are purchasing more.” (Halvorson). The unemployment rate will not increase because there is so much profit that’s being made. According to John Komlos, “The rise minimum wage will come mainly out profits, where there are lots of that. They also say people need a higher education if they want a better paying job. I agree that if you want a good paying job you should probably go to college. However, for the majority, college is not for everybody. I have even heard of cases where people will get a four-year degree and still will not be able to get a good paying job right out of college. That is just crazy, because people do not graduate from college to work for a poverty wage. Another reason that a single parent can’t support their family and pay for college on $7.25 an hour without the help from government assistances.
