"They are the family we choose to surround us, the sisters bound by love instead of blood. They know when we are lonely, and appear without being called. When we feel lost, they provide a living map to what comes next; when we doubt everything about ourselves, they remind us who we are." ~ Barbara Alpert Many us of always wanted to be a sorority or heard about Greek life in general from television or on movies. But there is a difference of hearing about Greek life and being in Greek life. We all know what it is like to be in Greek life and there are not enough words to explain how amazing Greek life can be. The sorority as a whole wants to fight for equality for women in society. As feminism being a strong focus for the sorority allowed us a sorority to help out other women. As I started Bloomfield College I have always been interest in joining a sorority. I went to many different interested meeting and none of them caught my attention like Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did. When I sat down and listen to their history and their goals it really made me change my mind and realize that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was the one. I am a proud Latina and to know that they were the first sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinas in the nation made me more excited and enthusiastic on being part of the interested ladies. The main thing that captured my interest was to know that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. is a scholarly excellence sorority. As any person would think a sorority is about partying and having fun I believe this one focus more on their educational future and to achieve their goals.

The decrease in membership in fraternities and sororities has occurred due to negative representation in media and criminal reputations. However, students should join fraternities and sororities because together they can do work for charities, volunteer, and fundraise. Students should also become members to be a part of a group life in which you are essentially guaranteed lifelong friendships and a thriving social life. Although the monetary cost may be high and the superficial representation in media makes fraternity and sorority members look daft and trouble-making, the benefits to membership include helping out communities and being held responsible for your academic and extracurricular activities.
After many years of providing limited individualized volunteering, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, has presented an opportunity for me to become a part of a collective sisterhood that has a proven long-term history of consistently delivering exceptional public service. When considering the societal challenges throughout the decades, it is apparent that the plight of the twenty-two founders have courageously paved the way for sustainable success. The ability to simultaneously achieve the oneness of sisterhood with the needs of our community is an extraordinary endeavor. Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated, has the determination that makes a difference for the vulnerable, as well as the accomplished. It is this balance that synthesizes
Members of Omega Sigma, Houston Community College’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, hosted their first general meeting of the fall semester on Sept 4 at the West Loop campus.
One summer day in the middle of the 1985, I was about to go into my junior year of college at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ar. I had decided that my major was going to be in Education and then soon to become a Kindergarten teacher. The first year of my high school career I had always wanted to join a sorority at the UofA. It had been my dream of becoming a BIG in a sorority, which is one of the many different leaders in the type of sorority. So, anyway the start of my freshman year of college at the UofA I went to registration and everything and along the side of the sidewalks there was many different kinds of clubs and such there. I finally went to all the different kinds of sororities there are and I had i had decided the sign
Little did I know, the incredible role models of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Ms. Nicki Harper and Ms. Loretta Bookman, wanted to stress the importance of being a lady, a leader and a well-rounded individual. These ladies and the Delta GEMS program influenced my curiosity so much that toward the end of high school, I researched and learned more about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I learned the members exemplify 3 of my core values: service, leadership and excellence.
Sorority life is more than the parties, frat boys and booze. It’s about being apart of a community and the traditions and rituals that have been around of hundreds of years. The average young woman should consider joining a sorority because of what they stand for and the benefits that it can bring you. Although sororities can by pricey and seem to have a bad reputation in the media, they give young women values to live by, networking opportunities for the work force and a long lasting sisterhood. Movies and the social media do not give sororities justice.

Hylor, first vice president of the South Palm Beach Alumni Chapter contacted Delta Sigma Theta’s National Headquarters and Southern Regional Director, Dr. Paulette Walker, was wanting to establish a chapter in her community, Broward County, because she wanted to serve the community she resided in. During the fall of 2002, Soror Hylor and Soror Scherita Price-Wrentz, both daughters attending the same school, quickly developed a strong relationship that included conversations on the benefits of another alumni chapter based in Southwest Broward County. Soror Price-Wrentz introduced Soror Hylor to Soror Damarshall Moore at the Tampa alumni hosted state-wide Founders Day in January, 2003 and they scheduled the first West Broward Interest Group (WBIG) meeting for February 16, 2003. What previous knowledge I had about sororities was based of the experience of my older sister, who went through the recruitment process twice to find her home in Kappa Delta at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The advice my sister gave was each school is different when it came to Greek life, but the experience would be the same it would leave me experiencing so many different feelings from exhaustion to painfully awkward conversations. I wanted to see for myself if this process was for me, to see if I could see myself as being a “sorority girl.”
I feel as if every sorority is great in its own unique way. Not only did I do my research online, but I also did my research by looking at how the sisters interacted with one another and the way that they welcomed others. I feel as the way that the finer women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. carries themselves, the way they interact and welcome others, and being a trailblazer stands out to me the most. Every time that I have had an interaction with the sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. it has always been positive. I do not feel as if I need to force myself to act in a particular manner to be accepted I can simply be myself and feel welcomed, opposed to other sororities. If I join an organization the people that I am surrounded by can
2007 – 125th Anniversary of The Key, the longest, continuously-published magazine of a women’s fraternity.
Fraternities and sororities are social organizations and the colleges and universities they have been around for a very long time. Since 2005 more than 60 people have died in fraternity related incidents, Fraternities and Sororities now at a record of 750,000 members provide invaluable leadership training, networking opportunities, emotional and academic support.
