College students tend to spend more times studying for an exam than they do catching up on their sleep. Therefore, lack of sleep is common among college students. The amount of sleep a college student should obtain is nine hours, but most student a lucky if they receive five hours. While not sleeping gives a great opportunity to catch up on homework, it has many negative effects on a student’s life. One of the most recognizable effects of sleep deprivation is the change of behavior. A college student that is not receiving the correct amount of sleep will become irritable. A restless students attitude may seem harsh to other people. This might make it hard for them to socialize with their classmates. A student that has not received the adequate amount of sleep may find everything and everyone to be obnoxious. A sleep-deprived student would prefer to spend time alone. Some research claims that teenagers are set to a different sleep schedule than that of an adult or a young child. Teenagers usually are not able to fall asleep until after 11PM, and typically cannot wake up before 8AM, when their bodies finally stop producing melatonin. Research also shows that if their classes are at any time before 8, then they end up not even showing up, which gives in to failure and raises the drop-out rates. But of course nobody performs well when they are sleep deprived. If a student get ill it means that they may miss days at college which will mean that they will be behind and may cause a student to become stressed. If a student is not getting enough sleep it may cause them to choose foods that are Hight in sugar which may cause an increase in weight. Everyone knows a movie, where college students are out all night and they are not in their room sleeping. That one movie, where the students come back late and realize they have class at seven in the morning. There are several reasons why students are not getting the recommended hours of sleep; some examples are being out all night, studying the whole night, and being unable to sleep at night. Sleep is essential to live a healthy life; however, college students do not realize the importance of sleep. College students believe they are young and do not need sufficient hours of sleep.
