Wrist Wrist Wrist One lovely afternoon I was at my indoor soccer game. I was in an indoor league with some of my friends and we were tearing every team we played. That day we were going to play against an academy team, which have very good players.I had arrived about two minutes before the game. I was pretty late because I had gone to go eat before with my brother. So because of that I didn’t start and I wasn’t warmed up either. Nathan, my coach was like “Hey man did you go sew your clothes?,” in a jokingly was because I was late. The game had begun now and it was already intense. It was back to back If I do say so. The first half was an exciting one as it was all tied up two to two. I had played about half of the half. Now came the second half, and later on I went on the pitch. Some kid and I jumped up into the air to win the ball. We both did, and when I fell down, I guess I landed on my hand the wrong way. I felt a sudden pain on my hand. My wrist was all jacked up. It was horrendous as I looked down at my hair in shock as It looked like the top of mountains.I couldn’t feel my hand, It hurt quite a lot when i attempted to move it. My teammates, the opponents, my coach, the referee, and my brother all gathered around me to see what had happened. I wasn’t crying or anything but I sure wanted to. Actually I really did haha. My brother questioned “ oh dang man, you good?,” and well I just looked at him in pain, I didn’t know what to say. When the ambulance arrived at the
After working hard and going undefeated all season, the time had finally come. The Middle School Girls' Soccer Tournament in fifth grade was our team's chance to play others from Knoxville and beyond. Although I didn't want that amazing season to end, I was bursting with excitement. All that we had played and fought for was going to be tested after an exhausting week of practice. However, the weekend didn't go as smoothly as planned.
My eyes flutter open to my alarm clock, which is sounding off the noise that tells me it is time to get ready. I jump out of bed, forgetting the ridiculously early time. I throw on my uniform, toss my hair up into a ponytail, and hurry down the stairs to get my water bottle ready. My stomach is in knots and my heart is racing. I force myself to take a few bites of an apple, but thats all I can stomach at the moment. My dad ready to go every Saturday, no matter the time. He has been at every soccer game since I was five years old. When we arrive at the field I run over to my coach, eager to start the game. The air is crisp and cool as it blows across my face. The grass glistens with early morning dew. As I run arose the field, I think there
Not much is known about the origin of soccer. However, the Greeks and Romans played football and ball kicking games. The London Football Association developed the first sets of rules in 1863. British sailors and settlers brought the game to India, South America and Europe.
Most people believe soccer is nothing but just a game , but for me, it's more than a game it's a passion. Soccer involves hard work , dedication , and long hours out in the field. It takes hard work to be out in the field playing with a ball aggressively and with skills. Soccer is a sport where there is no giving up , in order to be successful, you need to practice intensely to get stronger and better every day. There's times where you want to give up, but you just can't you need to find some type of motivation to keep you going. My coach is the person who has made an impact in my life . By that it changed me in many different ways. He has been able to motivate me , support me , and not letting me fail.
Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else. The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the sport has grown to a global pastime, including men’s and women’s teams, and the World Cup (which is played every four years).
Soccer consists of many important text and lexis, the first being the rulebook for soccer. It consists of how to play soccer, what you can and cannot do during a game, and the setup for the team: 11 players on the field, 2 teams, 3-4 referees, and as many backup players on the bench. The importance of this text is how the lexis is incorporated into literacy. The goal of the rulebook is to guide a new player on how to play the game, but most importantly it will build how they interpret the game and how those interpretation of the rules spread into their life. Players learn how to be more perceptive of what is happening around them and this helps to stimulate their brains. But how do players perceive what going on on the field? They read a playbook. Playbooks contain names and descriptions of many common and intricate soccer plays. This may consist of: bicycle kicks- a player throwing both feet in the air as a ball is approaching on the fly, while moving the legs with a pedaling motion to kick the ball in the opposite direction to which the player is facing, with the player usually ending up sprawled on the ground, chip- kicking the ball right over the goalies head, or volley- strike or kick (the ball) before it touches the ground. These types of plays help players connect their minds with the ball, building their knowledge and eventually, literacy. The last important text is motivating speeches. These are so important because they help
Soccer. fast moving, strategy, competitive, I loved those aspects in the game. In the month of March, when all the soccer tryouts began, I decided to try out for an older team which was 2 years older-my brother's team- just for fun. I went out on the day of the trial and surprisingly, I made the team. Feeling as if I had won the million dollar lottery, filled with excitement, on the side with fear because there were boys who were enormous and strong on my team. The only reason they were bigger, because I was 2 years younger.
UAB Women’s Soccer traveled to El Paso, TX to face off against the University of Texas at El Paso Lady Miners.
What is “Soccer”, or “Football” to you? Is it just a game where people kick the ball into a net? is it just a European-based game? To frankly answer these questions, Dictionary.com defines soccer as, “a form of football played between two teams of 11 players, in which the ball may be advanced by kicking or by bouncing it off any part of the body but the arms and hands, except in the case of the goalkeepers, who may use their hands to catch, carry, throw, or stop the ball”. All of this describes the way that soccer is played and its most basic and fundamental rules.
The late nights, under the lights, is such an amazing experience that I will never forget. So many different and exciting things happen on the soccer field. Through four years of playing, there were three different coaches, so many different players, two conference titles, one sectional championship, and so many records were broken. It is an amazing experience and if I could just have one more game with each of them, I would take it back in a heartbeat. The soccer field has a lot of history, personal value, and cultural significance to it. The high school soccer field is a cultural artifact, and it shows how teams work together, how some step up and become leaders, and how players leave a legacy.
Last night I made the drive to Union Local high school to watch my first game, that featured Wier, West Virginia and the Union Local Jets. The stadium was very nice, with the only complaint being three bucks to park.
People have always loved to play games. The human race has created hundreds of thousands of games to entertain themselves and to compete with one another. The most beloved games are those of physical sports. One of these sports, that has become a worldwide phenomenon, is the game soccer. The entire world gathers every four years to send out their best team, and to see which country is the ultimate champion. To play the game of soccer, there needs to be referees to ensure that the players are safe and are following the rules. Though this was once a highly respected position, in Virginia, working as a referee is no longer worth the time, due to a lack of respect, no support system, and the constant variations and changes to the rules.
“Call 911! Someone? Anyone? Please call 911!” Those were the last words I remember hearing on that hot, April day. The blazing sun was at its peak position at high noon and was striking down on my already beat red face. The dry, wilted grass lay under a freshly painted soccer field. This field was to be an immensely important and life changing symbol for my team and I, as we fought for our first place trophy and a state championship. As the starting whistle blew, the game quickly spiraled into a belligerent battle. Players went head to head, scoring goals one after the other until the score was tied 5-5. Bone-tired, the clock ticked closer and closer to half time.
We were doing soccer on the lower tennis courts, these courts were my favorite because they were a greenish blue. I loved the way the san diego sun would shimmer , making the court sparkle. I picked a light blue nike striped soccer ball out of the red cage and started dribbling around like everyone else. When coach harvey first told us we were doing soccer on the tennis courts I was skeptical; “What if I tripped, and broke something, it could hurt me for my club soccer season?” But, I played soccer so everything should be fine. The next thing I knew was that I was on the ground with my left elbow and right knee scattered with bright red blood. Coach harvey jogs over and helps me up, “ Seriously” I say, I never thought this would happen. He whipped up the blood on my arm and knee. I had skinned it pretty bad. It gave me an unpleasant feel throughout my body, like a cold slithering snake. When I got home my dad said, “Come’on Isabel, seriously! Show your skills on the field not the court, ok?” I woke up the next morning to the bright sun beating on my bed sheets, and the birds chirping. When PE came around again I remembered my dad's words, “Save your skills for the field!” Weirdly I have some superstitions, and today was definitely one of them.” I swear the ground was out to get me I thought!”, because the next thing I know the blue striped ball has rolled away and I was on the ground again. This time my right elbow is covered in warm blood. Coach harvey sends me to the nurse to get cleaned up because, let's be real it looks pretty bad...The nurse washes it, cleans the dirt, grime and gravel. My elbow feels cold and numb, I feel like the last seconds of a star wars movie; tense and anticipation. My elbow swells gradually. The nurse was a kind older women with round red glasses.”I'd get that checked out sweetie, call your mom I want her to know, your swelling is not going down I think you might need to see a
In our lives struggles and difficulties will never be avoided; they are a part of life. Whether or not we are ready or prepared, they are always going to happen. The fact is that life is ever changing. And, as one season ends and those doors are closed, new seasons as well as new opportunities will come in place of those gone. What makes the difference in each day, however, is how we respond when that adversity comes our way. As was the case this past year in football for me. For me, the most painful and most disheartening game one year (2016), then became the most amazing and elated game I would ever experience when we played the next year (2017).
