Principles of Soccer Introduction Soccer also called football in all the other countries. It has been invented in England in the 19th century. Soccer is the most important sport in the world with the greatest number of adherent. The team with the most goal wins the game. A game is divided in two half of 45 minutes with 15 minutes break between both parts. Each team has 11 players with one goalkeeper and ten players. Different Formations The coach of a team has different choices to put players on the field. The most important formations are: - The 4-4-2. The team with two strikers can put more pressure on the opposite defense, and also be more effective in attack. However, the negative aspect is your weakness …show more content…
Opposite philosophies exist in soccer. The two main different philosophies about attacking are: - Possession: The team try to keep the ball and to possess it. Players do not throw long balls over the top. The team builds the play by moving the ball through the lines. The speed of this play is low because the team builds their opportunities from the bottom of the field. The negative aspect is that the adversary has time to ship their defense because the pace is low. - Playing direct: The team here will try to play really direct. When a player has the ball, he will try to find a forward quickly to bring the ball as fast as possible in the opposite half. This philosophy used the fact that after the adversary lost the ball, his defense is not balanced anymore, so the team play rapidly forward to use the breaches. The two opposite philosophies about defending are: - High pressure: The defending team put its players really high on the field. The players try to regain the ball as soon as possible. They put a really high pressure which helps to retrieve the ball quickly and high on the field. However, this tactic is dangerous. If the opposite team pass the first pressing, it has lot of space behind the first line of pressing. This tactic also consumes lots of energies from the
Balance - Balance is needed as players are required to be able to pick up the ball and tackle other players without slipping over.
In touch football the ball is passed between the attacking team to players that are onside, who will run or move
referee which was stated before. Some similarities between the two are the lines of scrummage
Playing defense, all you want to do is hit the man with the ball, hit him hard. Right when you
Defense is the back bone of the team! Defenders must be ready to make a sliding tackle, alert and ready to back up their teammates in case they make a mistake. Defenders themselves do not have the luxury of making mistakes, since even a small slip on their part might result in a goal for their opponents, and a loss that their teammates are likely not to forgive. Being a successful defender calls for a consistent, reliable and sound performance. I’ve been studying the worlds greatest soccer defenders since I became a defender about 2 years ago. The best defenders are patient when the offensive player is approaching, they find the right moment to step in or go for the slide tackle causing the offensive player to lose the ball. They need to anticipate the play, and be one step ahead of the offensive player. Defenders have a hard, often unappreciated job. They need mental toughness, and determination to succeed.
Has to be done using feet and defending team have to go for ball and not the player.
If there’s a dead ball, whichever team has possession can pick it up. Attack and midfield lines usually sub out every so often, defense is more of whoever needs to get out gets the sub. That’s pretty much the bare minimum of knowledge needed but it’s also crucial to understand rides/clears. When a goalie gets a ball, he will try to “clear” it to one of his teammates. It’s comparable to a kick return in football, only your goalie controls where the ball goes. The ride, is the offenses defense against the clear. (Keep in mind the offense temporarily becomes the defense if the goalie gets the ball i.e. stopped shot) Then there is also man up, man down situations if someone gets a penalty or a fast break. The offense will run plays designed to get direct, close shots on goal in the temporary man up situation. The defense then operates on a “damage control” basis by essentially having the defenders split two men in coverage while one man takes the guy with the
Knowing when to step is a skill that takes years of experience to perfect. ‘Step’ is a term used when talking about pressuring or challenging the player with the ball. To step you must anticipate what the ball carrier is going to do. For instance, if the competitor is going towards the sideline you must pursue them in their run and try to hinder it. However, when trying to determine when to step or not you must look at your field position and where the rest of your teammates are on the field in relation to you. If your help is isolated, you must pressure the ball carrier to the outside sideline. When
America football is a sport played by two team of eleven players on a rectangular field divided into 10 yards to a total of 100yards, the width is a bit wider than fifty-three yards and with goalposts shape like letter “H” on each end of the field. The team with control of the ball, called the offense team, attempts to advance the ball downfield, by running or passing the ball or by throwing down the field. While the opposing team aims to stop their advance and take control of the ball themselves. The object of the game is to simply outscore your opponent. This is accomplished by advancing the football up field and scoring as many touchdowns, or field goals, (kicking the egg shaped ball through the upper goal post), as possible. While the other team will be holding back the advance they make, hence, becoming the defense side and preventing the other team to as few touchdowns as possible.
Slide tackle - make sure you keep your eye on the ball go in one footed sliding along the ground coming in from the side making minimum contact with the player, you must get the ball.
Teams can either be on the offensive or defensive side of the game depending on each play. Players can use their play to knock the other team’s stone farther away from the “tee”. Players can also use their play to block their own stone to keep the other team’s stone from knocking their stone away from the “tee”. Knocking the other teams stone as far away from the “tee” is key to scoring more points per “end”. Keeping the other teams stones far away from the “tee” allows the team to fit more stones in between their stone and the opponents stone awarding them more points. Each play is delivered with a purpose to either defend or score. Teams must be able to adjust from play to play and adapt to their opponents play accordingly. Teams have to be able to anticipate the other teams plays and plan several plays ahead. It is crucial that all players understand the goal of each play and execute their role in the play with precision for the team to be
AIM: to get the ball into the other team’s goal and prevent the ball from reaching their team’s side of the field
Although kick the ball is very important in soccer, the soccer ball has a very important part in Physics and the game of soccer. When the player kicks the ball they transfer their momentum into the soccer ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object times it’s mass. Once your momentum of the ball you can control it by using your feet. This can be demonstrated when someone passes you the ball and your feet to stop or slow down the momentum in the ball. You are controlling the momentum.
Press is the when you try to knock the ball, or steal the ball, from the other team's hands. If you are on the other
There is a golden rule in football defense, get the ball to the offensive team as quickly as possible. Win your games by training your defense to use a strong tackle that strips the ball from the opponent. Practice dislodging the football on the field in pairs of players. The defender will practice stripping the ball by bringing his hands up quickly with a clenched fist to grab the opponent and as he does so to aim to knock out the football. This drill is most effective if you start it slow focusing on the motions needed to be effective, and then speed up over time.
