Spanking has several effects on the children, which build numerous opinions among the people. Researchers have shown many positive and negative sides of physical punishment. There are several people that agree with spanking their children and there are others who are against punishing the children. Many of the parents who spank their children believe that spanking is sometimes acceptable because they believe it will make a positive effect on their behavior. Moderate spanking has been passed from generations to generations. Romano, Bell, and Norian (2013) indicate that based on the research, that sometimes spanking can be more effective than not doing anything. Parents who are in favor of spanking strongly agree that it should not be against the law because it has been proved that spanking corrects misbehavior.
There has been much research about how effective spanking can be and it has shown several positive effects on the child. People in favor of spanking say that spanking has helped earn their child’s respect and have shown the children that the parents are the authority and they must respect and obey them when it’s for their own good. Parents should not spank their child in front of people because it is not appropriate to discipline them in public. The people that are in favor of spanking say that parents should not be subjected to criminal liability for the use of force against their children under their care and supervision; if the force used is reasonable, also if the spanking is related to the purpose of promoting the welfare of the child, including the prevention or punishment of the misconduct, also, if the force does not cause any severe physical harm or severe mental distress to the children.
