I believed in your mission statement, especially, this part, “dedicated to provide high-quality, accessible medical care to underserved communities, regardless of their inability to pay.” I also believed that community health nursing is one of the best ways to reach the most vulnerable and under-served in our society. The reason why I decided to go back to school to become a nurse practitioner was based on my community health care experiences from volunteering in a community based family clinic that served low-come population and doing my community hours during my BSN program. The lack of health literacy that I saw firsthand that exist in underserved population about the importance of preventive care, vaccinations, and chronic illness management

As a native Mainer, I have adopted the mentality that all things worthwhile require hard work. Growing up on the rocky, briny coast taught that lobster shells must be cracked, fiddleheads must be plucked from their bristly nest in the cold spring earth, and blueberries are easier picked when you are young and closer to the ground. Maine is a difficult state, but not without rewards. Becoming a Nurse Practitioner through USM's options program will also prove challenging and intense, with the lifelong reward of a career that has meaning and value to me.

After high school, I am planning to transfer to a four-year university. I would like to get the necessary degree to become a pediatrician. Sometimes thing do not always go as planned and you must have a backup plan. If I do not end up going to four-year university, I plan on going to a community college to a get a job where a major degree is not needed. I would probably go to a community college to become a certified nursing assistant. I would want to become a CNA because my dream would be to work in the medical field.

I received my master of science from Columbia University School of Nursing. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, I worked as a Spanish teacher for 15 years and as a Spanish medical interpreter for 7 years. Using my linguistic and cultural literacy, and the nursing skills I acquired at Columbia and as a working RN, I would be an asset as an NP, especially in a community like Washington Heights.

As the future quickly ahead of me is being planned I have already come to the conclusion that becoming a Nurse Practitioner is what my heart most desires. A nurse practitioner is a person that is taught to utilize their critical thinking skills with advanced academic learning in order to take care of others by making clinical desicion making as it pertains to emotional, mental and physical being .This includes giving them medical instructions to specific or general illnesses to follow at home and through out the managing of their chronic illnesses. The reason that I want to get my bachelor of Science in Nursing at Liberty University is because I want to be able to work in the hospitals but have a stronger Christian outlook on medicine than other nurses. I want my patients to look at me and not only see me, but I want them to see Christ though me. I do not just want to be in Liberty’s Nursing program because of the Christian outlook that it will give me, but because it has a great reputation. Nurse practitioners are nurses who are qualified to treat certain medical conditions without the direct supervision of a doctor (Google, 2015). NPs require a lot of education because they are an important job in society. Their level of education is much higher than most nurses. They go to school to be able to do more than one occupation in the medical field and they put it all together to become a Nurse practitioner.

I'm Itza Castro. I am a registered nurse and am currently in my final semester of the family nurse practitioner program. I have worked in many adult acute care settings. Previous to this, I worked on a health prevention grant for the California Department of Health known as Nutrition, Education, and Obesity Prevention (NEOP) Program. As a nurse practitioner I hope to work in the community to help improve health literacy and promote health and wellness to individuals of all backgrounds and ages.

In 5 years I see myself working as a Certified Nurse Assistant at the best hospital in New York. I want to work hard until I get the highest pay for CNA.I will save my money so I can get my citizenship paper. Being an American citizen will help me to bring my mother in this country faster. I would like to rent a condo with at least 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom so that when my mother comes to New York she will have her own room and bathroom. She will sit back and relax because she don’t have to work .I will take this opportunity to show her how much I really care for her and repay her for bringing me to this earth even though she did not raise me .I would like to save money so I can open a restaurant and give it to my mother so she would run it.I

I Believe that Nurses should not only Love what they do, I believe that true Nurses are born to do what they do. At an early age I felt a deep connection to the Nursing field; I would look at Nurses and really admire them. It was not the Uniform that they wore that I admired, but what the uniform itself represented. For me Nurses represented helping, caring, loving, kind people and I knew that I was born to wear one of those uniforms.

Leadership; a trait that's been practiced for generations, creating a foundation where anyone can take action and create a plan or idea that can help our society's wellbeing, even if nothing is given in return. However leadership is not a skill that is perfected within a single night, on the other hand it's a trait that is gained throughout time. Being that, when I first began high school I never thought that I would be able to exhibit this vigorous position. I am usually the quite kid in the corner who never speaks and someone who is always shy to be in front of a big crowd. I am currently going to school to eventually become a nurse practitioner. I am required to several classes to achieve this goal, one of them being Introduction to Psychology. While taking this course I learned an abundance of different concept and information that I will not only using in my future as a nurse practitioner, but also in my everyday life leading up to that goal. The few concepts that stuck with me the most are the memory stages, the three “C’s” of abnormal behavior, and managing the body during stress.

Nonetheless, I have never been as driven to learn and make a difference and to apply myself until now and discovering my passion for nursing has started a fire in me I have never felt before. During most of my high school career I have never really taken schooling seriously, something I still regret. But, after talking to family friends who are involved in the medical field and learning more about it all, I am doing my best to catch up and better myself.
